I believed that i deserved to go to hell and that aliens where actually demons and that atheists secretly believed in god and all that retarded shit but i can happily say that i have never ever believed in a 6000 year old earth
It is probably unfair to classify all christians as complete idiots. I am an atheist, but I was raised in the christian belief. Unlike many YECS, my parents did believe in evolution, and were well educated people, but they just couldn't let go of the last vestiges of the beliefs they were raised in their whole lives.
Cool vid, man. I was never a young earth creationist, I was an old earth creationist ever since I could learn to read and I learned all about the dinosaurs. I rejected out of hand young earth creationist claims even at six years old. Now, I am an atheist, so I'm not an anything creationist at all, but I know the experiences you probably went through. Keep up the good work!
yup, i was taught the crap too... funny how once i saw through one set of lies... the rest began to reveal themselves, and soon, there was nothing left but lies... i do have to give them credit though, for conditioning folks into a mindset that allows them to hold beliefs which completely contradict each other, seamlessly. hate is love, war is peace, wealth is poverty... ... ... life is death ...
I was once a young earth creationist myself a few years ago. I'm also ashamed to say that the state where the creation museum is, happens to be my home state.
I was also a young earth creationist a little over two years ago. The breaking point was a visit to the Creation Museum in Kentucky. I have never seen so much cyclic reasoning in my life.
@CultOfDusty actually g.r. has been proven false there are videos on here debunking einsten dark matter and string theory i don't hate science i just hate impudent pseudoscientist and pseudo skeptics they really piss me off and heres why instead of saying why something cannot be true or listing real proof why they take opposition to an idea they list false claims and false research like quantum mechanics and spew voodoo bullshit out of their ass.
That's funny. I know quite a few Christians who believe completely in the the theory of evolution, having once been young earth creationists. I once a young earth creationist, but I am not one any longer.
It just seems to me that you have traded one fundamentalist mindset for another, as well as making all kinds of sweeping generalisations about Christians. Do you really think all Christians are fundamentalist, anti-scientific fools like Kent Hovind?
@ukchristian28 I was just speaking of my own experience. Christians, like anyone else, come in all shapes sizes and colors. The only thing they all have in common is gullibility and a lack of ability to critically examine their own dogma.
I have been watching some of your videos, and so far I have found that you have made all kinds of sweeping geralisations, which is something you wouldn't allow Christians to get away with I am sure.
"Gullibility and lack of ability to to critically examine their own dogma." Do you say that because they haven't come to the same conclusions as you?
In the UK it is true that the vast majority of Christians accept the theory of Evolution but Dusty lives in the deep south of America and probably deals with many Christians who blindly follow the creation story of the Bible, I don't believe that he is suggesting ALL Christians are idiotic creationists.
@ukchristian28 how can you be a Christian and not believe in the bible? the bible is the foundation of the religion and it says the earth is six thousand years old that contradicts evolution believing in both is just intellectually dishonest
Where does the Bible say how old the Earth is? I suggest you do some more indepth reading on the subject. Answers in Creation is a good website as is godandscience . org. You might also like to check out the series I did responding to AndrewKinghorn15.
You're exactly correct. But sadly, most Christians don't want to find out the facts - deep down inside they probably know their beliefs are BS, but they don't want to face it - cognitive dissonance.
Accepting any kind of information as absolute fact is what caused the whole religion thing to start with. Wouldn't you say? Once you give up your couriosity and openmindedness, you stop moving forwad. I understand your need to emphasize your disgust towards this person, but I just want to point out this important little thing about knowledge. It's food for the ego and "truth" is subjective. This I think, is the great human challenge.
@:44 Dog ass Jesus had me rolling. It's hard to believe your Young Earth past, considering your intelligence. But then I used to drink the "blood of Christ." I accept your confession, your penance is 10 Hail Dawkins and 10 Darwin's Creed. Live long and prosper.
fucking awesome channel man. I want just try to stick creationist in the oven anymore, but I'll actually try to speak with them. you are fucking badass. need to send this video to Dawkins man.

Hey man, I was just like VFX/PCS1, too. I used to tell Jews to their face that they would burn in hell for denying their Jewish Messiah. Yeah, I was fucked in the head. Fucking 20 years of my life, a mental waste.
Good to see the deconverted admit to their thinking. It would be nice if the faithful could have the balls to admit it too.
People value things, and by proxy they value other things that are associated with what they value. It's called a "value judgment." Both religions, and certain extent, political ideologies are based on value judgments rather than facts. Which is why they don't permit to critical analysis. It's also why the religious get emotional when you criticize their beliefs.
3:17 That is my 9th Grade Biology book! Has a lot of great information in it.
Turning to actual facts is how I realized the truth as well. Have been watching a couple of your videos now and you are seriously one of the most down to Earth, intelligent people I've seen.
Wow, I just got linked to your channel from another video but I can already tell that I'm going to enjoy watching more material of yours -subbed for being one interesting dude.
Again, im not trying to insult you or be rude in anyway, just feel that it is very important that people understand why this is why the scientific method is so much more about reason and logic than dogmatic blind faith !!!! still very good videos and don't let me stop you from giving out your very good message!!!! keep up the good work!
100% agree but its still important. What separates science from religion is that we DON'T say that something is 100% true, that we except that there is a possibility of a better answer therefore when someone comes along like einstein and comes up with better explanation than what was called fact at the time, it worked better and replaced the original. If you don't understand that then you don't have a correct understanding of science. Religion is bad because it forces you to do the opposite. ;)
i really enjoyed this video, and i hate to leave a comment like this but is very important that now you have embraced science reason and logic, you pay the price of eternal vigilance over what you say. For example. science is built on the understanding that nothing is 100% fact. Gravity doesn't work well a tall in Quantum physics and thus string theory as been invented. This followed with the unified theory of relativity is looking like it might be incorrect. Do follow science like religion.
However, here's the problem. When you are dealing with religious people, I find that they will not consider your argument at all if you show any type of uncertainty what so ever.
Because their religion gives them certainty. They know for 100%. The fact that they are 100% wrong doesn't matter.
I understand logic is the opposite end of the spectrum. Logic is based on doubt. Based on the courage of admitting you dont know.
@CultOfDusty Yes but you have to admit to these people that in the real world with the real answers to the tough questions in life are only going to be 99.999% correct at best, because of the possibility that anything can happen on a big enough timescale. Not that nothing we say is true, but more that in the real world we have to understand its not just black and white, wrong or 100% fact. Fact is only a un-disproven theory and is always open to updating. This is why its not religon.
I agree with what your saying. I just have personally found the best way to reach cult members is to keep it simple and be certain. Any uncertainty, even .0001% is reason enough for people to ignore you completely.
Im not interested in being moral. I'm interested in winning the war of memes, and I believe confidence and certainty are key aspects to get dumb people to listen to you.
If the other way worked, the nation wouldnt be 80% Christian right now =)
BTW everything you are saying is fully admitted on my website. I just don't talk that way in my videos because you must keep these things as simple as possible. The subject is already complicated enough as it is. Too much more "egghead" than this and no one will watch it.
Thanks. There was so much of it I didn't believe at all. Like speaking in tongues and people falling out on the floor and flopping around like fish.
I always knew those parts were bullshit. I also pretty much so through the sham of organized religion and realized it was just a business.
The rest of it was easy to believe because I never let myself think about it. Anyt thoughts that were too "dangerous" where put out of mind. I wasn't going to risk being tortured forever!
Strangely, I never read the Bible till I was an atheist. It was always read to me by preachers and others. Even as a Christian I thought the book was boring and hard to understand.
That's just the power the cult has. It makes you retarded.
I'm surprised you said that "evolution theory is a fact" rather than something like "do you know the difference between a hypothesis and a theory?" and how the creationists and the scientists both began with a different hypothesis and evolution has been passing scientific scrutiny for 150 years to become a theory, while creationism has not. A "theory" is NOT the same thing as a hypothesis.
Thanks! I agree with what you said, but I try to keep my vids as simple as i possibly can. That's why I often use such simplistic terms to explain such complex ideas. Baby steps =)
when I was a little kid I was obsessed with dinosaurs so when my private school teacher told me god made the universe 6,000-7,000 years ago I called bullshit. for that I got hit with the paddle ten times.
I wasn't as nearly as bad as you were, Dusty, but I can understand. Once upon a time, I was something of an ID defender. All I had to back me up were out of date, out of context quote-mined literature. And as you realized, to the untrained eye it was very convincing.
Yeah well Christians don't even know what the word "Theory" means, much less what the theory of evolution actually is. I was the same way just a few short years ago.
Hovind is a perfect salesman, if nothing else, for that one has to acknowledge that...
Every lecture is a up-to-2-hours-sales-presentation, and it is so well made, that someone who doesn't know the subject will completely fall for it, if he doesn't research and test the made claims...
That's why I always wondered, why nobody takes the creationists in the US legally on fraud and deception in front of a court... Is their no law, that basically prohibits scams?
Great video Dusty!! Since I've been on youtube(been about over a year now) I see where I was wrong when I was a fundi. All that creationism is nonsense and bullshit.
That's awesome, Jimb0can. It's nice to know that the information available right here on YouTube is actually doing some good to combat the smooth and, above all, comforting sales pitch being offered by the likes of Hovind.

when I was a little kid I was obsessed with dinosaurs so when my private school teacher told me god made the universe 6,000-7,000 years ago I called bullshit. for that I got hit with the paddle ten times.

Sounds about right. Torture you until you believe nonsense. Some things never change.

brilliant vid, in my 5 stars and favourites.
Glad you broke free of all the crap that used to hold you down.

all you got to do is look at the grand canyon and you will know that the earth is way more than 6000 years old.

Well they have an explanation for that. It was formed in 15 minutes during the flood!

I wasn't as nearly as bad as you were, Dusty, but I can understand. Once upon a time, I was something of an ID defender. All I had to back me up were out of date, out of context quote-mined literature. And as you realized, to the untrained eye it was very convincing.
I'm glad to be firmly on the side of science now.

Dusty, I have hard time believing that you were anything like VenomFangX. No one can be that irritating.

I bet my family would disagree with you. =)

Origin of Species is one of the best books I've ever read. Darwin was a great writer.
One thing that surprised me was how many of the canards that Creationists spew out today were addressed by Darwin 150 years ago.

Yeah well Christians don't even know what the word "Theory" means, much less what the theory of evolution actually is. I was the same way just a few short years ago.
CultOfDusty 2 years ago
You researched it for yourself? You obviously weren't a "real Christian"!
;)

Nope, thats a sure sign. I was fake Christian!

Dusty. Nooooooo. How could you? Oh well, I guess maybe there's 'hope' for VFX. I read Hovind's doctorate today - it's an absolute abomination.
AuntieDiluvian 2 years ago
I read it too. But if you've studied his material, you've already heard most of it. got to give it to him, he built an empire off of that.
CultOfDusty 2 years ago
Hovind is a perfect salesman, if nothing else, for that one has to acknowledge that...
Every lecture is a up-to-2-hours-sales-presentation, and it is so well made, that someone who doesn't know the subject will completely fall for it, if he doesn't research and test the made claims...
That's why I always wondered, why nobody takes the creationists in the US legally on fraud and deception in front of a court... Is their no law, that basically prohibits scams?

Yeah he is awesome at what he does. One of the greatest con men ever.

Great video Dusty!! Since I've been on youtube(been about over a year now) I see where I was wrong when I was a fundi. All that creationism is nonsense and bullshit.
Jimb0can 2 years ago 2
That's awesome, Jimb0can. It's nice to know that the information available right here on YouTube is actually doing some good to combat the smooth and, above all, comforting sales pitch being offered by the likes of Hovind.
