I think it's important to note that the MS3 is FI, and the Z is NA. I don't mean this in the ignorant sense of, "Oh it fastar cuz it turboz lolz." I say this because when it comes to elevation, NA cars lose approx. 3.5% of their HP for every 1000ft of elevation. This is really important, because FI minimizes any losses by maintaining the desired pressure. As a result, if this a NA Z races any FI car, be it a MS3 or a WRX, you very well might see completely results depending on location.
1st off this is in TX, so elevation in not the issue here. Its not like the MS3 had a turbo installed. It comes that way stock. so NO, I dont think it really matters if either one is FI or NA.

I think you're misunderstanding me here. FI vs NA is just fine at sea level. My original concern was that this was at a higher elevation, and thus would have an advantage over an NA car on the simple basis of the environment.

But then I was talking to the head Z technician at the dealership here, and we were talking about the GTR he was driving... he went on to talk about how drag racing isn't what cars like the GTR and Z were designed for - they were designed for the track. It hit me then that it's okay to lose some straight races in a Z. That's not what the car was made to do. Just a little side note.
I can definitely appreciate that. My next car's gonna be a GTR for sure once the money's right in another 2 years or so. I'm not a big track star. I like the street. But I think the GTR is close to the best in both worlds. Plus it's the sexiest thing on any road.
i have just cold air intake and a greddy type s bov on my MS3 everything else stock. my boy has a 04 350z with injen exhaust, deleted cats, upper and low spacers and intake. is a good driver. from a second gear roll. i pull on him up to alittle over a car length. until about 140 then the z's top in kick in and starts to close to the my lead lead.
when i was all stock. he still had his mods. he would pull on me from 2nd gear a good bit the whole time. and would really take off by 130
yes but what im failing to see here is anyone giving the z any respect, ms3's just with a downpipe have been known to put 30+ more whp down and whether it be your car or not i would expect that ms3 to be putting near 40-50more at the wheels. The reason many z's seem slow is because they are tuned like crap from the factory, a 350z with Utec is a completely different car and is getting higher numbers with better economy. I love both cars though i just wanted to point a few things out.

Very true, if the 350Z would of had forced induction of some kind, it wouldn't even of been a race. Besides, the 350Z looks and performs on the track a hell of a lot better than the MS3. I would like to see a quarter mile race between the two cars.

if he would have missed a shift he would have disappeared much faster from the scrreen as the mazda is accelerating, I thought that at first, but watching it a few times, I think the mazda either just shifted in 4th gear where the mazda gets it's max boost from 4th-6th gears. I do the same thing to 350z in my ms3.

Those are two completely different classes. Regardless of power. Even though they are close, they are still different classes.
