Saw her on B'way yesterday. Fantastic performance of I'm Still Here. With all that star power on stage, she still kind of stole the show any time she was on - she has incredible charisma. Hope she finally gets a Tony for this.
Who in their right mind would actually give this a dislike? Have they SEEN it live?! One of the few moments in live theatre while I actually gasped. She deserves a Tony for this performance.
Say Follies recently on Broadway and Elaine Paige sang this song much better that night. She was on top form, and gave the song so many facets- humour, grace, regret etc.
Her voice was excellent and she got a roaring applause.
It was certainly one of the many highlights of a great evening.
This was from a DC performance and doesn't come close to EP's live version in NY. Besides, sound quality, etc. of this video is not good at all and when I saw this amazing actress/singer last week on Broadway, her actual performance had evolved light years in brilliance. Her reviews were fantastic and so well deserved The power, uniqueness and amazing quality of her voice and personality stole the show & got her the ovation of the evening. Talk about showstoppers!
@kndlmn331 The sound quality is pretty good considering it is an audio recorder from Wal Mart. Besides i was THE FIRST to post her version of the song- like a month or two before the video came around. I think mine is the only full version on here as the videos seem to have been removed....
@darreyl102 I saw it from the mezzanine, 1st row, center & the power of her voice came thru way above the orchestra where we were, so perhaps where you were recording made it sound (to me) a bit far off & in a sort of tunnel. (too close to the orch. maybe)? Good video, anyway, actually & thanks for it. I'm hoping to see it again while it's on Broadway.
Saw "Follies" here a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, Elaine Paige got severely twisted up in the lyrics for the first section of the song. She knew, we knew, she knew we knew. Even with her valiant efforts, the number was never really recovered.
Bernadette Peters: Classic. I don't think I've ever heard her sound better live.
Danny Burstein: I can't imagine a more perfect Buddy
Jan Maxwell: Her material is treacherously difficult and her performance was extraordinary. She always amazes.
I just saw Elaine in (NY) Follies. I was completely mesmerized during her performance of "I'm Still Here". I'm so happy about the recording and have pre-ordered my copy. I would completely flip if they were to tape the show on DVD!!!!
Maybe we could take Ms Paige more seriously without her very bad face - stretch!!! Come on - get over your age!!! Sorry she is just not this role!!!!!
Ms Paige is so much better in the Broadway production. And her hair and costume also. She sort of outshines everything else. But it's a fantastic show.
I am so happy follies is coming back to broadway. Thank you for this preview of whats coming this fall. :) I hope for a recording of this cast. I hate that the last cast with Blythe Danner and Polly Bergin wasnt made. Thank god for videos posted
I saw this closing night at KC, and I must say this number and Jan Maxwell's "Could I Leave You?" were the best thing EVER!! Amazing really... So glad they're coming to Broadway!!
I have always wanted to see her live and now that she is coming to Broadway, I get the chance!! This sounds wonderful, and I can only imagine the improvement once it is live.
In a show full of excellent peformances, this one was a total standout! Saw it from front row, center orchestra and still have goosebumps! And she was absolutely lovely at the stage door. An honor to listen to her live, definitely!
@darreyl102 I'm guessing she will. She expressed interest in it previously, when it was rumoured. I'm assuming the producers are probably most determined to maintain Peters, Maxwell and Paige, of the main cast for the transfer.
@darreyl102 Ohhh, and do you have anything else from the production...or rather, anything with Peters?! If you do, and uploaded them, or sent them to me, I'd be overjoyed!
@boynamedalexxx Good news -- There is a brand new Broadway cast album of this wonderful New York production of "Follies, I just pre-ordered it on Amazon -- to emerge in late November.
Love Elaine more than anything - her Norma Desmond in Sunset still being the greatest performance I've seen - but her voice is a shadow of its former self - and, as I'd heard, she ACTS the song far too much. As a Sondheim purest, that's almost unforgiveable. Luckily, the tempo stays as it should, unlike Ann MIller's embarrassing Papermill "I'm Still Here" - done up tempo... ughh...And hate the held note at end - not how it goes. Polly/Yvonne remain at the top of the "I'm Still Here' heap.
@dwirthwein I think that Sondheim himself would vociferously disagree with your assertion that she "acts" too much. Sondheim has always said that he prefers to work with actors who sing as opposed to singers who act, and that he would rather have a dramatic moment be captured in one of his songs, even if it's at the expense of the timing. I would have thought that you knew that, given that you're a "Sondheim purist."

@dwirthwein I don't agree about her voice being "a shadow of it's former self"! She sounds wonderful..more mature and I love that about her.
