  • Your bass guitar is tuned a tiny bit higher than Paul's bass.

  • i hope to be able to do this, i can;t get it right, my hand refuses to stretch

  • This is magnificent. Seriously, if I could ever posses half of the right hand technique you have I'd have achieved a lot as a bassist.

  • @abstarb A good singer? Yeah. A solid bassist? Yeah. A good songwriter? Hell yeah. The greatest bassist of all time? Definitely not. There are so many better bassists. John Paul Jones, Flea, Victor Wooten and Billy Sheehan are all far, far better. The bassist out of Muse is better, Johnny Greenwood is better. There are dozens of better bassists. McCartney is a jack-of-all trades, master of none.

  • Very clean, well played :)

  • damn ur good...

  • Thanks, you're teaching me how to play the bass.

  • I HAVE TO SING AND PLAY THE BASS AT THE SAME TIME NO JOKE!!!

  • I remember asking my dad 20 years ago who he thought was the best bass player of all time. He said McCartney without peer. I can see now why

  • Brilliant!

  • The finest bass covers on tube are made by you, NIco! I appreciate your playing very much.

  • just go to show you why the Beatles were such innovators in music....they PLAYED THEIR INSTRUMENTS

  • Im 16, and started in a band not long ago. I play the bass left handed and Im from liverpool...this isnt bullshit just a freaky coincidence heh. I learned to play this song bout 3 weeks ago and sorry to say I can sing it whilst playing it. does that mean I win?

  • @Walshy095 Congrats! I play bass for my band too (among other instruments). I'm 17 (pay no attention to the random birthday on my account. only made it to rate, comment, subscribe, etc.). But in all honesty its no too difficult to play this song on the bass and sing. at least not for me. but i've been playing music since i was five and plan to make a career out of it. haha. again congrats. didnt mean to lessen your accomplishment anymore. its no easy one. have fun playing!

  • Awesome! Bravo!!

  • so with the left hand do you touch the string that you play (i dont play and know nothing and i might get one and id like to know something befoe i di)

  • @chilibro

Left hand is pressing the strings in a simple pattern. Takes a few minutes to learn the pattern, then must practice the shit out of it to build speed. Right hand is just two fingers constantly picking.

  • @jx14aby what's easier finger, thumbing, or picking?

  • @chilibro

I'm just beginning myself. But I prefer plucking with my fingers.

  • THAT SOUNDS INSANEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • Nice technique! It's good to see some people still have the proper way to bass down. Also, great cover!

  • those 20 that dislike this ,are just jealous how you play.... btw good work ,and good sound ...

  • u certainly do this song justice

    well done

  • spot on!

  • just watching this makes my fingers tired rofl

  • God bless Macca

  • i think ur paul mccartney in discuise!!! ur sooo good!!

  • Great performance. Paul is the greatest rock bassist ever, you certainly do honour to his music.

  • did you play wit a pick???

  • How long did it take you to master this?

  • Nice job. That's interesting the way you tuck the ring finger in there instead of using the middle finger for those fourths. I would guess you are/were a guitar player.

  • McCartney deserves to have a memorial even though he's not dead yet his fingers must be jammin on the bass like this great cover man

  • omg, you are so awesome!

  • nice work man! but i wanna see youre right hand too! finger or pick?

  • plop!! xD

    I dindt see that

    Xd

  • Damn paul mccartney for his awesomeness lolz jk hes awesome and this is so cool!

  • that was fuckin rad man.

  • There are better bass players out there and in history, but my god, to that bass line and sing, on key and pitch, i think hands down he's the best known bass player ever.

  • ture talent the best god bassline ever

  • play and Sing is Easy XD P:

  • is that a yamaha¿?

  • @peruvianbassmaster so you must have missed in the description where he says it's an ibanez?

  • good job =)

  • WOW!! I have a new appreciation for bassists!!! Lone live The Beatles and their awesome music!!

  • Who the hell doesnt like this video!?

  • i can get 98 percent on this in the beatles rock band on expert paul is a god of bass

  • @joewarhurst

PAUL IS NOT DEAD!!! its such a stupid rumor

  • Let me see if I got this straight. You write the song. You write the bassline. You sing the song while playing the bassline in front of millions of screaming girls. That don't seem to difficult now does it. This is yet another example why Sir Paul McCartney is a rock & roll god. A god with a small "g" perhaps, but a god nonetheless. Excellent cover. Well done.

  • @EyeNoit Paul readily admits that he didn't write this bass line. It was lifted note for note from Chuck Berry's I'm talking about you.

    watch?v=04u5XPp_-1k

  • @gotham61 Chuck Berry is the king of rock and roll. I'm just kidding, I pinched that line from Cheech and Chong. But Chuck Berry kicks major ass. So does Paul McCartney

  • Billy shears just didn't produce this quality of basslines when he took over in '66.

  • @TheMeaningOfWithin i agree entirely. It is a fact that Billy Shears took over in '66 when Paul died, you have just got to look at the proof and Billy Shears bass lines were fuckin wank after Paul passed away. RIP Paul, John and George x

  • No chance I'll be able to do this any time soon... I've been playing four days :L

  • and he did this with singing. Dam paul. i try. but i cant. great cover man!

  • I'm a guitar player but might buy a bass just to try to learn to play this-GREAT

  • Haha amazing bro =D thanks

  • Are you playing with mediator? Or with fingers?

  • I have 2 days to learn this song before I play it onstage. Wish me luck, I'll sure as hell need it lol.

  • YouTube just keep on deliving the goods. From a Brummie kid UK

  • Oh i forgot to say the I got the bass tab of ultamate-guitar . Com (no spaces) and just search the song name :) it's probably on other sites aswell but that's wher I got it

  • You are ace!

Thats the same bass tab I've learned but I aren't as good :(

  • You're a machine - money cover!

  • just learned this on bass great line!

  • cool .. hey i can play that bass line and sing too XD .. man i love the beatles!! ...

  • wow! really nice bass cover there, 6nikola9. really good, very nice bass too ;) 5 stars!!!

  • omg 100% expert bass fc! achievement unlocked. yes i'm a fucking nerd.

  • Wow, you make it look easy!

  • Excellent.

  • Don't forget that he is singing while he is playing that. Paul is aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawsoooooooooooome

  • After hear that bassline ... PAUL WAS SOOOOOOOOOO TALENTED!

  • This bassline shows why the whole rock industry should kneel before Sir Paul McCartney.

Very well done by the way.

  • @Halewyn Not just this bass line, but this one is exceptional given how early it was in their careers. McCartney's bass lines are almost invariably creative and interesting, adding a type of counterpoint to the music - Silly Loves Songs is an iconic bass creation, for instance...; Daytripper was another early one.

  • @Halewyn Not "the whole rock industry"... Listen to japanese Rock (or Pop rock), I think japanese bands are currently the best... (There are amazing bass lines in those songs)

  • @Halewyn

He stole it from a Chuck Berry song, but yeah, he's still an absolute God...

  • @JonathanHawes94

well, but chucks bass sound sucked ImO.

Macca really brought that line to life, in chucks song it's just there.

  • @Halewyn Paul McCartney had only been playing bass just over a year when this song was recorded. Maybe we should just lay down and prostrate ourselves. Kneeling isn't quite enough.

  • I hate McCartney how could he play the bass that way and sing too!!!! jajajaaj

  • He's like the man with 2 brains! I've always been fascinated by bassists and drummers that sing the lead.

  • MrUnderdog is right, playing bass like this and singing at the same time seems like a pain, but Paul did it perfect. Playing drums and singing is a bit easier though.

  • Yeah, but both can take a while to get down. Easier part about drums is you always know which drum is where by one tiny peek, with the bass or guitar you might mess up tabs and focus to where you were and get back on track and then you can forget about vocals and it can be a big mess! ahh!

  • Yeah, true. Singing while playing drums is easier than while playing guitar/bass, but still no easy task.

  • @Figo1013 and that's not even the beginning of his talents!!! we should form an angry mob and go raid his house!!!

  • Nice. I don't usually anchor the root note but I'll give it a shot and see how I like it. It seems to work well for you. BTW, Great tone.

  • Nice Chops dude!

  • I enjoyed that.

    It sounded flawless.

  • Hey! you managed to get your bass cover sound very clear! Great job! I'm a bass player and I first played this way back in 1966! You are fluent just as I was, when I played it! I have to know this...are you playing with tape or wire round strings?

  • my brother can play this!! I LOVE IT!

  • Wow! This is one of my favorites of the early Beatle songs. I've always thought of it as fairly simple little song. I never realized the bass line was so complex. How did Paul do this and sing at the same time?

    Well Done!

  • Macca is pure legend! Best musician ever along with John Lennon. You are really good with the bass! Would love to jam with you ;D

  • I love how complex this bass line is and I love how its always changing... McCartney is a genius.

  • good job man!

  • Man, trying to play this gave me a new respect for Sir McCartney, and he evn sings while playing

  • HAHA i thought I could play this.. then I tried to play it to time! Nice work.

  • arrrrgggghhh! i need help with this song! im having trouble with my pinky finger! btw its not really that hard to play and sing this...i just need to do some finger exercises...right?

  • Agreed. For me this song was hard, all you have to do is play this song slowly and exercise your pinky and you should have it really quickly.

  • WOW ! That was amazing !

  • Fantastic job! It's my favorite Beatles tune so thanks for learning the bass and playing it so perfectly for everybody. Paul would be proud. Aces.

  • This damn bass part is like doing 100 pushups. Freakin' McCartney is the best there ever was!!!!! Great job, dude...just use a pick for authenticity.

  • Well, as they say practice makes you an expert. Keep on repeating until it becomes second nature. Of course, Mccartney and Lennon not only have the gift for playing it but also of having written the tune also.

  • thats some talent on pauls part to play this and sing

  • Great job

  • wow how can paul sing while playing this?????

  • its not that hard just keep up the beat and u will get

  • wo000000000w"

  • amazing!

  • kewl beanz

  • u neen a hofner 500 and u got it

  • By George! You've nailed it! Excellent mix and camera angle, too.

  • im maaking a cover on this:D good jobb

  • that was absolutely too cool. you sir have a great talent!

  • Your crazy on that bass. holy shit. 5/5 stars

  • that's some damn fine bass playing

  • I love that bass line. So sick!!

  • Impressive, bet this vigorous rif gave ya a good workout :-) Keep playin' these wonderful McCartney lines, you're talented!

  • Thanks for the free lesson on one of my favorite songs

  • I like that. It reminds the way I use to play a Beatles cover. Please, take a view to the video my son and I did and tell me what do you think about.

  • Awesome!

  • i dont play bass ,rythem guitar but, i had to learn that bass ine after hearing that wow ! im in a tribute 60s band and we do that number our bass player sings it as well but doesnt play it as good(no doubling on the notes) great job man

  • another great job !!! i watched several of your vids now and loved each one of them

i dont know why but if i watch one of your videos, a smile on my face raises and i think '' yeah this dude kicks ass'' ;)

    so keep on rocking

  • fantastic! amazing job my man :-D

  • I want to say thanks for the video as it gives the basic bass riff to this song very well.

Since learning this over a year ago I have found that the bass runs leading up to the chorus are progressively different as well the bass in the lead break is really moving and far more complicated than the lead. Likewise the ending is a little different.

Anyone wanting to just get an accurate clean version of this song you need to be here and watch as I did to figure it out.

  • I don't play bass, but that looked amazing!

  • excelente

  • Oh man this is great! I don't play bass, I play guitar, but I love this.

  • Yogi he's still alive and plays the riffs.. idiot ;f

  • The fact that McCartney sang while he played these riffs was a testment to what a talent he really was.

  • No doubt -wonderful voice and amazing bass/piano/guitar/... performances.

  • Don't forget, he also played drums in the early days, and during a couple songs on the White Album when Ringo temporarely quite.

  • For sure -Thanks for reminding.

  • nah, Ringo is just a lucky guy, just one more drummer, the genius are Paul, John and George.

  • Well its something ive been thinking about for a long time , Ringo is the most lucky man in the world.

  • Whereas Ringo may have lacked somewhat on his drum extravagance , It's important to recognize he was one of the best time keepers in rockin'roll. You must also consider his work on tomorrow never knows, a totally unique and entrancing drum rhythm.

  • Finally someone else who thinks Ringo rocks! He was a great time keeper, and Tomorrow Never knows is a great drum track. It annoys me when people say "he wasn't even the best drummer in The Beatles"

    Regards.

  • Man.. Your videos rock!

  • WOW

  • Oh man you nailed that. Great job.

  • fantastic!

  • That was fantastic! Your coordination is awesome. Perfect bass/guitar fingers

I've always had trouble picking a favorite Beatles song, and I know and love so many from 63 to 70,but if I had to pick just one, gosh this one may be it. Hate to to pick one out of that huge catalogue,so I'd say my favorite early tune.

  • El bajo en esta cancion es sensacional, pero pocos le ponen atencion, excelente trabajo,

  • Sweet man You Rock! Do You Use A Plectrum Or Your Fingers? Just Asking...

  • I thought it was in D# not E

  • Exactly what I was looking for. The vocal part on this song can be a bit deceptive when you're trying to listen for the change from E to A and back again in the verse. I end up playing the E and B, before I know it i've arrived at the quarter notes walking up to the C.

  • great

  • GREAT JOB!!

  • what fret does he start on?

  • he starts on the E..

  • it looks like the 7th fret which is also an E

  • Mezmerizing! What a cool trip!

  • Brilliant.

Sooo much harder than it sounds.

There is a local band who do it really well and the bass player only plays a fraction.

It doesn't matter. It still works.

I'm currently sussing 'Monkeyman' ie. how much to leave out. Too much business on the bass can muddy it.

Let the rhythmn guitars hit the accents, I say.

  • I have to say it. I like it better than the Hoff. A bit of sharpness.

  • found it really usefull as i needed to learn this track quickly thanks.... nicely played too!

  • chevere

  • oe chevere el video causa

  • excellent!!!!

  • That turnaround at :53 made me giggle like a little kid. A big bowl of awesome.

  • :) really thanks to all!

  • Gosh! This is great!

  • once again nicola, you have blown me away!

  • We're practically a band! I just played the solo with this!

  • muito bom
