I totally agree with what Billy says here, having felt the abuse myself... children are strong and find very strong ways out of it... yet sometimes they don't and that is awful to see :(.
Billy the "comic genius". I just find him incredibly funny. Ive admired, cherished & giggled along since I was about 14 (Im 36 now) & I watched both grandparents go through a few of his stand ups - from Alzhiemers to Cancer. Scotland crucified by stupid politics, I'll award my euromillions to anyone who gets me a straight answer from the CSA. Dont care where BC goes or what he does - he will allus make me think of happy, funny, pee yer pants moments - now, that's a legacy to be proud of!
Very similar to my experience growing up with his comedy.. I have friends in UK that says.. Billy Connolly.. I dont like him.. He swears. I just find that way too shallow. The man is about soo much more than that.
bloody brilliant guy. he's right about the attraction to death and comedy, when you're a teen.
death is something i think about quite a lot in my 16 year old self and i can't stand it, but it just seems to come in every so often and remind you its there for no reason.
67 this December. He jokes about his age now. 'I turned 60 recently. Even more recently I turned 67. I don't even remember my 61st! A year in my life goes like this - Should old aquaintants be forgot, Happy birthday to you, Jingle Bells Jingle Bells!' LOL!
Wow ! The incredible thing is that he's willing to speak about his childhood in such a revealing way - especially the emotional turmoil such chaos creates.
Ironic to think if he hadnt been treated so badly as a child, he probably wouldnt have turned out the funniest man alive. No-one makes me laugh like he does (can still remember sniggering to the 'jobby wheecher' with my little brother when I was a child!)Keep on doin it Billy - and up the 'Tic!!
Kemilu2712, you just made me laugh so much thinking about the 'jobby wheecher'......... what if it wheechs YOU away? Priceless sketch, I remember stealing my dads audio cassette copy of it when I was little!! :D

Sounds like an average Scottish working-class childhood to me.
At least Billy's glib tongue and humour gave him an escape route.
Where as the rest of us Scottish working-class plebs live out our short, sharp and brutal adulthood's.
It's a wonderful life!
