You are the most caring & loving man & son that anyone could hope for. Your Mom was very fortunate to have such dedicated love from you. It hurts so much to go through all you did, and miss her so terribly. I have a strong feeling she is with you in spirit & always in your heart. What a beautiful woman that created such a beautiful man. ♥♥♥
If you ever suffer from Alzheimers or have a loved one who does, there is hope. If you want to know more detail about Nita Scoggan's story you can got nitascoggan.comand hear her story, hope this helps:)
Don't play "who am I" games with her.Be a son,not a tester of memory.Tell her who you are and keep telling her as much as you need to.She has a head and heart full of names, faces, places and memories and you are just one of the millions,so don't try to force her to make you THE priority of her thinking and living process.Stop trying to shame and confuse her with what you think she is supposed to know and try to love her for what she has already done instead of trying to make her do more for you.
It's no secret that this is an incredibly devastating disease. But it's good to remember one's parents as the way they were before Alzheimer's, instead of the way they were at the end. That person was the true one, and it's only right after all the care they've given that we care for them back.

@analisow I work in a nursing home and alongside Alzheimer's patients every day. Sorry to hear about the news, but there are things you can do to slow the disease. I hate this disease. It took my aunt from us in June! I'm glad she's free of pain, but I still miss her tons. For some reason I was one of the last people that she forgot. I hope they find a cure for this disease before it destroys anymore families. God Bless you and your mom. :;hugs::
Please remember, she may know who you are inside but she may not be able to express it. She needs your love and loads of hugs. I work in an Alzheimer Community and lost my Dad and my husband to Alzheimer's disease, and I know how much they need to be touched, loved, and hugged, no matter if they know you or not. Many hugs to you!
Rob, please don't worry so much about whether or not your mother knows you. What is most important is that she not be in physical or emotional pain, that she is not scared, etc. I've seen my father know me while believing that we are both dead and in hell, and worse. There were times when he did not know me, but was in a state of peace. He's suffered so horribly that it barely registers when he doesn't know me. My greatest wish is for him to be in a state of peace, that is all that matters.
Rob, Came back to see this again and just realized you were listening to "American Dream" by CSNY in the car. I'm glad you liked my rendition of Under Starry Skies. Wait a minute, now that I watched to the end I realized I saw another video of your Mom's birthday in the nursing home! This is a great documentary Rob, thanks for sharing this.
Yes I was listening to American Dream by CSNY here lol..Your rendition of under starry skies was awesome Gil..Loved it...Thanks for watching this one Gil...appreciate it Bro
With AD, the most recent memories are the first ones lost. By the end stages, the person only has the oldest memories left, and perceives themselves as much younger. This is why they call people by incorrect names from their past, and why their own reflections in mirrors upset them so. They can't understand why the reflection they see doesn't match what they expected to see. By the late stages, it may be necessary to cover mirrors to prevent agitation.
HI Rocket, your mom may have just mis named you. That doesnt mean she doesnt know who you are,its as if people with alzheimer's sometimes get the information from the right folder (male family members) but pull the wrong file out and the word (name) comes out wrong. It may also be her mental image of you is that 12 year old boy she sees daily, whereas "Gordon" would be the right age for the person she sees in front of her.
It could be way worse. My mother-in-law thinks her son, (my husband)and she are married. and brace yourself...sexual. She thinks they are planning on having a baby. He is mortified. But he does look just like his dad and she doesn't really know his name either. If he trys to correct her she threatens to hit him with her can. This is the worst disease ever. Destroyer of humanity. - She lived in my home until a few months ago. We are only starting to regain sanity.
wow that is a wild story, but alzheimers really does funny things to a persons mind..I can see how nerve racking it can be..Thanks for sharing your story ,...Peace
Omg I am so sorr for her and for you ...Hey and maybe you look like Gordon! Who know he Is your uncle my GREAT grandma had alzheimers she died a few month's ago...
My Dad is 83 and has the disease. I haven't found a support group, but was looking for understanding when I found your video. God Bless - it helps to see others are dealing with it. I can't imagine how hard it is for our folks to go in and out of the black fog. My heart breaks for his pain when I see his confusion. Yesterday was the first day in 3 months that he was really Dad again. It was a glorious few hours.
Hey I'm back. My grandma now has dementia and alittle Alzheimers. Yet she still remember me and the rest of her grandchildren. But her daughters she mixes up.
That's the thing. Just like when my grandpa died I didn't even cry. I think it's because 1. they are grandparents, and 2. it was expected. But thanks.
Hi there OttawaRocket...I share your pain. I had to witness on Thanksgiving day tonight my grandma forgeting my mother's name and also forgetting her grandchildren. It was a very sad momment and almost lost it when I saw my own mother crying and worrying that maybe one day this would happen to my own mother. My grandma is 93...hopefully she can hang in there and they find some cure soon.
Hey thanks for this comment Dave, I appreciate very much. I'm sorry to hear about what your Grandma is going through..It really does hurt family members when a Person does not remember their children or Grand children...This could happen to all of us eventually and it would be great if they found a cure. Stay strong my friend
It sucks sooo hard to see our parents like this. My mom has this evil disease and she has forgotten numerous immediate relatives. She hasn't forgotten me yet but I know that day is coming. My mom is not on a locked ward and it scares me to think of her getting out and wandering. When she first was placed in her facility she went to the front desk and asked for directions to Irving (about 20 miles away) and she got 'em! It's b/c she is so young compared to other residents.
Hi Julie I watched your vids about your Mom and I am touched by them.I'm sorry to see that your Mother is suffering form alzheimers at such an early age,it must be very hard for you and your family. The good thing is that she has her loving Daughter by her side..If the time comes when she does not know who you are..she will still know that you are a friend and appreciate your company.I've found this to be true with my Mom.Keep me updated my friend and thanks so much for sharing your story
I'm sorry to hear that your Mother had alzheimers Rod..it really is a depressing thing to see a parent suffering with this..Hey thanks for dropping by my friend, I really appreciate it : )
Thanks for your kind Message Fallon and I'm sorry to hear that your Grandmother had this disease..It is draining for sure..I think I had a hangover when I made this vid and that didn't make me look any better lol..Thanks again my friend
your mum will allways be your mum, but her forgetting about who you are that is terrible
my mum has braincancer, she is still very clear and knows exactly where she is who she is and who we are..but it scares me at times that the tumors may take all that from her before she dies
Thanks so much for your comment Kris, I am so sorry to hear about your Mum..It is so tough to watch your parents go through these things..I'm rooting for her my friend and I want to say your awesome for the love and support you give her..all my best wishes
thanks rocket, so are you, it takes a lot from children to deal with these things, your parents used to be the ones in charge, they knew what life was about, they gave advise knew the old stories, and all of a sudden they are needy, and you have to deal with things you never thought would happen..

Im so sorry that your Mom is foregetting who you are. There is nothing more devistating than that. This dreadful disease is taking away my Dad as well. He has suffered for 8 long years with it. We opted to keep him home instead of a nursing facility. Its exhausting both physically and mentally but you just keep on going for the love of them. Thank you for sharing this part of your life~
Thanks very much for sharing ctmed59..I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad...I commend you for keeping him at home and I realize how physically and mentally exhausting this must be..your awesome
Having an 80 year old parent with AD, I sympathize with you. However, you demonstrate exactly what not to do if you want to help your ailing mother through this as gracefully and painlessly as possible. She needs your constant gentle assistance in guiding her back through this world that has gone fuzzy for her, not to be tested immediately whenever you visit, and especially not on camera. You hurt her with this and it hurts me to watch it. Sorry, but that's how I see it.
I have to agree with you here my friend..I have long since stopped testing her..I value your opinion here..Love is all that I give my Mother these days
Rocket, I didn't have to go through that. Both my parents died fairly young and both of cancer. But I respect you showing this video. See her every day you can.
Charsel I'm sorry to hear about your parents, Cancer surely is a terrible scourge on society and I've lost some great friends from Cancer..I visit my Mother most every Sunday and it is sad to see the long slow decline..Thanks for commenting my friend
my heart goes out to you. My six year old daughter, Gabrille Laverder is suffering from the same symptoms, just a different name for the disease... Niemann-Pick Type C. God bless.
It's been a tough year so far for the both of us, & it's not even 1/2 over! Mom went to be with the Lord on March 6, my dear friend Alice went to be with the Lord, March 26, and I came down with a bad cold on April 9th. Two funerals and an illness. My condolences. I've gotten a lot of support from my church. They've been a big blessing. Good support. It's important. I attended an Alzheimer's support group. It helped. God Bless you, dude. Thank you to everyone's kind words, wishes, and prayers.
God bless all of you who have tried to help me! I am forever grateful! I lost 2 best friends in no time! My best friend and his Golden Retriever! The family cant take care of her! While all of this is happening, they laid off a person at my work and added more work to my shift! It cant get worse!
Again God Bless all of you who either are sufferers who have had a loved one succumb to this horrible disease! My thoughts are with you!
Hey, padude64. Yep, both are used now for both Alzheimer's & dementia. If the family will talk to you, ask them if he has had a brain scan and a diagnosis of amiloid plaque in his brain. That's the diagnosis of Alzheimer's. They can slow down the disease for a time, but they cannot stop, cure, or reverse it. This disease used to be called senility. My heart goes out to you. God bless you in this very sad time. It was so hard for me, and just know your doing a good deed for him with your support.
I saw my best friend this past week and he was drooling, I Believe from Aricept! He is on Aricept and Namenda but since I am only a friend and not a family member, they will not tell me a diagnosis of Alzheimers! If you are taking Aricept and Namenda, is that a sure diagnosis of Alzheimers?
Hi Les, once again I am sorry about your good friend..that's very sad..I believe that Jonathan has answered your question better than I could have...Rock on!
thanks for your comment padude64, I can't say that Alzheimers is worse than cancer..but it is heartbreaking to see once vibrant friends and family members with this terrible Disease. My best wishes to you and your best friend.
My grandmother has gone in a coma state with her Alzheimer's. For about 90% of my life she has lived next door to me so I have an really close relationship with her. I postponed going to college and quit a job so I could stay at home with her while we could still take care of her at our home. I know what you're going through and you're in my thoughts.
I'm sorry to hear about your Grandmother Cylaisawesome. I must say it was beyond the call of duty to Postpone college and quit a job to stay with your Grandmother..You are a great person : ) and I really know that it's not easy to take care of person with Alzheimer's ..All my best to you and your Grandmother..Your both in my thoughts : )
My mom died today. She had Alzheimer's and I had to place her in June of last year. She died of cardiac failure. Treasure and cherish your parents. You may never get another chance to in this life.
Jonathan forgive me for taking so long to reply.(Ton of messages) I am so sorry that your Mom passed away, the loss of a loved Parent is a loss of your past..and it hurts a lot. Found this out when my Dad died...I'm sure your Mother is in a better place and of course love never ends..You will always have the great memories of your Mom...My Mom is still in the nursing home and will cewlebrate her 84th Birthday next weekend March 23rd..I do cherish her..Stay strong my friend
You right Pauline alz is truly horrible. I'm so sorry about your husband, I really hope a cure is found for this disease...all my best wishes to you and your hubby.(I hope he is doing ok)
Hey brother, sorry to hear this.. My family and I suspect my grandmother is starting to develop it as well, we're hoping for the best but expecting the worst, it's a horrible disease. Keep strong man.
My Colonel Marine friend who is a spy in the Islamic world was just home in Pennsylvania. He buried his mother who had the same disease. I witnessed this unfortunate problem with his mother. I thought of writing a song named "Dead While Alive" about this problem. Hang in their buddy. If you feel like writing a song about this condition welcome to my title.
Hey Rock my Mom died of Alzheimers at 67 she wasgot it at 51. She was one of the first people in our area Buffalo NY to get it back in 1984 no one knew what it was. I went thru it all. I know what you are going thru, Hang tough.
Billy I am so sorry that your Mom passed from Alzheimers at such a young age. people don't realize that fairly young people also can get this terrible disease. I can imagine the hell you went through, I really want to thank you for taking the time to share your story my friend.
Sorry that it's taken me so long to respond to your touching comment on my Mom's passing. Thanks for taking the time to comment on my vid. It means so much! Mom passed in Aug. 07, so I am still grieving my loss. I take it a day at a time, and that's all we can do. God bless you and your precious Mom! Hugs! :)Keep those vids coming!
Thanks very much for droping by Raindancer, Yes it takes quite while to get over the loss of a beloved Parent, The pain lessons but never really goes away...Thanks for being a good friend and I truly wish you all the best..I'll keep the vids coming : )
MY best friend went to jail and was acuused of assaulting my sister by holding a knife to her throat and was taken to jail!
The interesting thing is that he had dementia before this episode and that must hurt the patient as well as the family tremendously like it did me! My friend did not know what he was doing! By the way God Bless you and Jon for being so strong!
I know its off the subject of the video - no disrespect intended.
I just thought this was neat... My house is almost in the shot of this video. How often does that happen? Neat.
I hope all is well. My best wishes are with you.

I believe Alzheimers disease is worse than cancer due to the fact that they cannot remember you!
The sufferer cannont understand how you feel and that alone is devastating!

My thoughts are with you!
padude64 3 years ago
Hey, padude64. Yep, both are used now for both Alzheimer's & dementia. If the family will talk to you, ask them if he has had a brain scan and a diagnosis of amiloid plaque in his brain. That's the diagnosis of Alzheimer's. They can slow down the disease for a time, but they cannot stop, cure, or reverse it. This disease used to be called senility. My heart goes out to you. God bless you in this very sad time. It was so hard for me, and just know your doing a good deed for him with your support.
