  • I know its off the subject of the video - no disrespect intended.

I just thought this was neat... My house is almost in the shot of this video. How often does that happen? Neat.

I hope all is well. My best wishes are with you.

  • @Dannnnnie ...That is pretty cool : ) My Place is not far from the Queensway either , Thanks for your good wishes and all the best to you : )

  • You are the most caring & loving man & son that anyone could hope for. Your Mom was very fortunate to have such dedicated love from you. It hurts so much to go through all you did, and miss her so terribly. I have a strong feeling she is with you in spirit & always in your heart. What a beautiful woman that created such a beautiful man. ♥♥♥

  • If you ever suffer from Alzheimers or have a loved one who does, there is hope. If you want to know more detail about Nita Scoggan's story you can got nitascoggan.comand hear her story, hope this helps:)

  • Don't play "who am I" games with her.Be a son,not a tester of memory.Tell her who you are and keep telling her as much as you need to.She has a head and heart full of names, faces, places and memories and you are just one of the millions,so don't try to force her to make you THE priority of her thinking and living process.Stop trying to shame and confuse her with what you think she is supposed to know and try to love her for what she has already done instead of trying to make her do more for you.

  • I'm so sorry.

It's no secret that this is an incredibly devastating disease. But it's good to remember one's parents as the way they were before Alzheimer's, instead of the way they were at the end. That person was the true one, and it's only right after all the care they've given that we care for them back.

Thank you for posting, I hope everything goes well for you.

    Stay strong.

  • @acheese9 bull fucking shit asshole omg you got alzeimer

  • im sorry dawg i would cry if my mom forgot who i was

  • @cesardgm ,,and you are an idiot

  • @cesardgm I hope to hell that you never know what its like to know someone with Alzheimers. This man is just trying to vlog the mental torture to watch someone you know and love forget you, and even tragically, forget themselves.

    please STFU.

  • Robbie, is your mother still alive? Try to understand that with Alzheimer your mother is only trying to fit you in the remaining memories left to her, memories which fit her age. She means no harm to you as her son. She is truly a victim of her disorder and you become a victim, if you don't want to accumulate the burden, try and take it easy with what and who she remembers, what and who she loves. What and who she loves is you with her fading memories

  • @PauleQueenie ..Thanks Paule, what you say is very true. I made this vid 4 years ago and have learned a lot about alzheimer's since then, My Mom Passed away last week on Nov 9th 2010 with her family at her side

    Rob

  • @Ottawarocket, how are you doing since your mother passed away? Grieving that someone you loved isn't alive anymore and relief that her agonizing life memory has ended? Or have you found an easier way to live through your loss?

  • @PauleQueenie ..There is no easy way to live through loss my friend , I'm just thankful for all the good times I shared with My Mother , and I know I'll feel her love forever

  • @Ottawarocket, I think it is a beautiful way of remembering someone loved, no matter what.

I wish you well in life Rob.

  • @PauleQueenie ...The same to you Paule , Take care my friend

  • my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer, she's 58 and i'm 18 which makes it really hard for me, i'm trying really hard to make it work but it is just stoo exhausting for me and so difficult to see her like that because i need her so much and i feel like my best effort is never enough... so i'm scared what is going to happen

  • @analisow I work in a nursing home and alongside Alzheimer's patients every day. Sorry to hear about the news, but there are things you can do to slow the disease. There has also been a breakthrough just this past November in Israel for a vaccine for it. It's only worked in rats so far, but there is hope.

  • No one knows what it's like to have someone with this insidious disease in your family unless they go through it themselves. Well meaning friends give lots of advice but they don't have a clue as to what it's like to have to take care of someone who doesn't remember what you told them 5 seconds ago. I guess that's why I have not stayed in touch with them. It's nice to be able to "talk" to others who know what it's like.

  • My Friend I totally understand what you are going through ..I took care of my Mother for a few years until she had to go into a nursing home ..unless one has experianced this with a loved one..it's hard to understand just how hard it is and how much it wears one down..stay strong my friend I admire you for taking care of your Mom

    Rocket

  • Thanks for sharing your Mom's story. My Mom is mid-stage and she is slowly drifting away. She's at home with my Dad and I and fortunately she is too afraid to leave the apartment so wandering is not an issue(yet). She knows who we are but has trouble keeping her brothers and sisters name correct.

On this I've noticed-their eyes-they seem so empty. I have to laugh over some of things she does and comes up with because it I don't I will just cry.

  • I understand what you are going through , it's not easy to watch your Mother go through this hell called Alzheimers ..and yes we have to laugh at times because it keeps us sane ourselves ...all best wishes to you and your Mom

  • @Kaleighrox2 Yes James is lucky he has a wife to take care of him, The unfortunate thing is she will not always be able to do that as the Disease progreses ...Bless you for the great comment my friend

  • I hate this disease. It took my aunt from us in June! I'm glad she's free of pain, but I still miss her tons. For some reason I was one of the last people that she forgot. I hope they find a cure for this disease before it destroys anymore families. God Bless you and your mom. :;hugs::

  • @GeminiAuntie God Bless you my friend

    Rocket

  • Please remember, she may know who you are inside but she may not be able to express it. She needs your love and loads of hugs. I work in an Alzheimer Community and lost my Dad and my husband to Alzheimer's disease, and I know how much they need to be touched, loved, and hugged, no matter if they know you or not. Many hugs to you!

  • @jemreymore Thank you my friend ..a few hugs go a long way

    Rocket

  • Rob, please don't worry so much about whether or not your mother knows you. What is most important is that she not be in physical or emotional pain, that she is not scared, etc. I've seen my father know me while believing that we are both dead and in hell, and worse. There were times when he did not know me, but was in a state of peace. He's suffered so horribly that it barely registers when he doesn't know me. My greatest wish is for him to be in a state of peace, that is all that matters.

  • @silkath I agree Thanks very much My friend

Wait a minute, now that I watched to the end I realized I saw another video of your Mom's birthday in the nursing home! This is a great documentary Rob, thanks for sharing this.

    My friends taught me.

    I forgot how to run!

    My friends taught me.

I hope my friends will always be there for me.

    Rocket

  • With AD, the most recent memories are the first ones lost. By the end stages, the person only has the oldest memories left, and perceives themselves as much younger. This is why they call people by incorrect names from their past, and why their own reflections in mirrors upset them so. They can't understand why the reflection they see doesn't match what they expected to see. By the late stages, it may be necessary to cover mirrors to prevent agitation.

  • Thanks for that information my friend

    Rocket

  • HI Rocket, your mom may have just mis named you. That doesnt mean she doesnt know who you are,its as if people with alzheimer's sometimes get the information from the right folder (male family members) but pull the wrong file out and the word (name) comes out wrong. It may also be her mental image of you is that 12 year old boy she sees daily, whereas "Gordon" would be the right age for the person she sees in front of her.

  • Thanks corconne, I think you may have a good point here ..Greetings from Ottawa Canada

    Rocket

  • Good day sir, my grandma is also suffering from Alzheimer's... I'm sorry for your mom, I wish you the best.

  • It could be way worse. My mother-in-law thinks her son, (my husband)and she are married. and brace yourself...sexual. She thinks they are planning on having a baby. He is mortified. But he does look just like his dad and she doesn't really know his name either. If he trys to correct her she threatens to hit him with her can. This is the worst disease ever. Destroyer of humanity. - She lived in my home until a few months ago. We are only starting to regain sanity.

  • wow that is a wild story, but alzheimers really does funny things to a persons mind..I can see how nerve racking it can be..Thanks for sharing your story ,...Peace

    Rocket

  • Omg I am so sorr for her and for you ...Hey and maybe you look like Gordon! Who know he Is your uncle my GREAT grandma had alzheimers she died a few month's ago...

  • My Dad is 83 and has the disease. I haven't found a support group, but was looking for understanding when I found your video. God Bless - it helps to see others are dealing with it. I can't imagine how hard it is for our folks to go in and out of the black fog. My heart breaks for his pain when I see his confusion. Yesterday was the first day in 3 months that he was really Dad again. It was a glorious few hours.

  • Thanks for sharing your story, and God Bless your Dad

  • @jdawgisback Sorry to hear about your Grandmother ..all you do is give her love and support ...Yes Alzheimers reall does suck

    Rocket

  • Well, my grandma died now on December 2nd. But it's better she's gone than suffering.

  • @jdawgisback ..I am sorry to hear that , I hope you are doing ok

  • That's the thing. Just like when my grandpa died I didn't even cry. I think it's because 1. they are grandparents, and 2. it was expected. But thanks.

  • Hi there OttawaRocket...I share your pain. I had to witness on Thanksgiving day tonight my grandma forgeting my mother's name and also forgetting her grandchildren. It was a very sad momment and almost lost it when I saw my own mother crying and worrying that maybe one day this would happen to my own mother. My grandma is 93...hopefully she can hang in there and they find some cure soon.

  • Hey thanks for this comment Dave, I appreciate very much. I'm sorry to hear about what your Grandma is going through..It really does hurt family members when a Person does not remember their children or Grand children...This could happen to all of us eventually and it would be great if they found a cure. Stay strong my friend

  • It sucks sooo hard to see our parents like this. My mom has this evil disease and she has forgotten numerous immediate relatives. She hasn't forgotten me yet but I know that day is coming. My mom is not on a locked ward and it scares me to think of her getting out and wandering. When she first was placed in her facility she went to the front desk and asked for directions to Irving (about 20 miles away) and she got 'em! It's b/c she is so young compared to other residents.

  • Hi Julie I watched your vids about your Mom and I am touched by them.I'm sorry to see that your Mother is suffering form alzheimers at such an early age,it must be very hard for you and your family. The good thing is that she has her loving Daughter by her side..If the time comes when she does not know who you are..she will still know that you are a friend and appreciate your company.I've found this to be true with my Mom.Keep me updated my friend and thanks so much for sharing your story

    Rob

  • My mom had the same thing Rocket. I am so sorry to hear this. I don't know how I missed this before.

  • Thanks for your kind Message Fallon and I'm sorry to hear that your Grandmother had this disease..It is draining for sure..I think I had a hangover when I made this vid and that didn't make me look any better lol..Thanks again my friend

    Rob

  • Looking into your eyes you seem so drained, I think Alzheimers is the cruelest disease of all. My heart is with you Robbie.

  • Soup thanks very much my friend..it is very draining

  • Sir this may have been one of the most powerful things I've witnessed on Youtube. It takes alot to post something like this. Godspeed sir.

    Rocket

  • thanks rocket, so are you, it takes a lot from children to deal with these things, your parents used to be the ones in charge, they knew what life was about, they gave advise knew the old stories, and all of a sudden they are needy, and you have to deal with things you never thought would happen..

I totally understand how hard that is

    love kris

  • Im so sorry that your Mom is foregetting who you are. There is nothing more devistating than that. This dreadful disease is taking away my Dad as well. He has suffered for 8 long years with it. We opted to keep him home instead of a nursing facility. Its exhausting both physically and mentally but you just keep on going for the love of them. Thank you for sharing this part of your life~

  • Thanks very much for sharing ctmed59..I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad...I commend you for keeping him at home and I realize how physically and mentally exhausting this must be..your awesome

    Rocket

  • Having an 80 year old parent with AD, I sympathize with you. However, you demonstrate exactly what not to do if you want to help your ailing mother through this as gracefully and painlessly as possible. She needs your constant gentle assistance in guiding her back through this world that has gone fuzzy for her, not to be tested immediately whenever you visit, and especially not on camera. You hurt her with this and it hurts me to watch it. Sorry, but that's how I see it.

  • I have to agree with you here my friend..I have long since stopped testing her..I value your opinion here..Love is all that I give my Mother these days

    Rocket

  • Rocket, I didn't have to go through that. Both my parents died fairly young and both of cancer. But I respect you showing this video. See her every day you can.

    Charsal

  • My best friend would have died for anyone as he was a marine and now has Alzheimers! I Appreciate all of your help Ottawa and Jon!

This has to be the hardest episode in my life!

  • It's been a tough year so far for the both of us, & it's not even 1/2 over! Mom went to be with the Lord on March 6, my dear friend Alice went to be with the Lord, March 26, and I came down with a bad cold on April 9th. Two funerals and an illness. My condolences. I've gotten a lot of support from my church. They've been a big blessing. Good support. It's important. I attended an Alzheimer's support group. It helped. God Bless you, dude. Thank you to everyone's kind words, wishes, and prayers.

  • I am from Pittsburgh and I voted for Hillary Clinton for her concern of Alzheimers patients! Obama never mentioned Alzheimers!

  • I believe Alzheimers disease is worse than cancer due to the fact that they cannot remember you!

The sufferer cannont understand how you feel and that alone is devastating!

  • God bless all of you who have tried to help me! I am forever grateful! I lost 2 best friends in no time! My best friend and his Golden Retriever! The family cant take care of her! While all of this is happening, they laid off a person at my work and added more work to my shift! It cant get worse!

Again God Bless all of you who either are sufferers who have had a loved one succumb to this horrible disease! My thoughts are with you!

  • Hey, padude64. Yep, both are used now for both Alzheimer's & dementia. If the family will talk to you, ask them if he has had a brain scan and a diagnosis of amiloid plaque in his brain. That's the diagnosis of Alzheimer's. They can slow down the disease for a time, but they cannot stop, cure, or reverse it. This disease used to be called senility. My heart goes out to you. God bless you in this very sad time. It was so hard for me, and just know your doing a good deed for him with your support.

  • JON thank you for the word amiloid plaque! I appreciate it man!

  • I saw my best friend this past week and he was drooling, I Believe from Aricept! He is on Aricept and Namenda but since I am only a friend and not a family member, they will not tell me a diagnosis of Alzheimers! If you are taking Aricept and Namenda, is that a sure diagnosis of Alzheimers?

  • Hi Les, once again I am sorry about your good friend..that's very sad..I believe that Jonathan has answered your question better than I could have...Rock on!

    Rob

  • Ottawa thank you! I wish you the best!

  • my best friend forgets who I am and he has Alzheimers! It is so hard! Alzheimers is worse than cancer!

  • thanks for your comment padude64, I can't say that Alzheimers is worse than cancer..but it is heartbreaking to see once vibrant friends and family members with this terrible Disease. My best wishes to you and your best friend.

The interesting thing is that he had dementia before this episode and that must hurt the patient as well as the family tremendously like it did me! My friend did not know what he was doing! By the way God Bless you and Jon for being so strong!
