i love my chessie, Jack... he is so smart and is not a pet, he is part of the family. he cant stand to be alone and loves swimming to death!! in new york its almost febuary and he breaks the lake ice to go swim!! i love him so much he is my whole life he understands all of us so much... he is very protectice,,, a little too protective haha he nips at the ups guys and whoever comes up to the door.. but hes a little mommas boy and always follows my mom and loves her a lot

I have a Chessie named Skipper. He is THE BEST DOG IN THE WORLD! Very protective and loving, smart, and cute. Check him out on my channel- the video is named Dog vs boy or something. He is cute and ya he tries to kill stranngers, he bites and barks and tackles ppl but i luv him cuz i know im safe with him around.

Every time I show this breed's name to my friends... they think the name of the dog breed is Cheesecake =-= But I love the Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. They are not my favorite breed of do (my fav. is Cavalier King Charles Spaniel :3) but they are very lovable dogs,my cousin has one and her name is Ginger. Very sweet dog, very happy-go-lucky and I love her. Again, not my favorite dog breed but still a very excelent, wonderful dog and I recomend this dog to lots of people looking for a great dog.

My six-month old Chessie Emil is resting on the floor behind my right now - he might be young, but he sure knows how to keep an eye on his owners, he's marvellous when walking off leach in the forrest, never goes further than maybe 5-8 metres away..! We love him to bits!

I love my Chessie, He is VERY protective, even obsessivly so, He is 9 years old still doesn't want my wife to get between us, Very loyal, I was told they calm down when they get older, guess we havent gotten old enough yet. He loves kids and me, any body else not so much. He follows me everywhere and I mean everywhere. I haven't get any privitcy in years

I've got a rescue pup that is 50/50 CBR/LAB and he is turning out the be one very smart dog. He catches on so fast and is very eager to please...I just may be a CBR owner for life now.

@HuntinBig315: I agree; they are really smart dogs! Once they do what you want and they see how happy you are with them they really fall into line. When our chessie, Skeeter, was a puppy my husband taught him to go potty in a corner out back, then go around to the front, retrieve the paper and bring it to the front door and hand it to whomever gets him his breakfast. When we got a pet house rabbit he quickly learned to be nice to her. He's so loyal and lovable! A gentle giant.

Does this breed have any health issues? Are there any ear problems - do they have heavy ears?

I'm very serious about buying a chessie. But since in my country there is no chesapeakes, I'm gonna have to go abroad to buy one.

Are they very dominant?

Artheritis, and hip dysplasia are prominant. They take a while to learn and are very strong minded but great dogs and always happy/smiling

my chessy, zoey, is a very tall and slender female. she is also very blond and we haven't seen another like her. she is 8 years old and more active than my chocolate lab puppy! probably the most obedient and personal dogs i'll ever have.

I have an awesome pure bred. He's more brown then sage, but he's so sociable and good hearted. I'm right off the Eerie Canal which makes it a nice place for him. He is great with my cats. I don't think I'd ever get another breed.

best dogs out thier. grew up with chessies and have been in my family for 5 genarations now. i have two chessies now a male and a female. Bo and Dana, bo is a sage color while dana is a deadgrass and i love my dogs so much.
