  • In 1950 the average wage for a highly qualified school master at Harrow and Eton was 200 GBP per year. So 1200 GBP would buy a house in 1918/

  • Mrs Hamilton's everything Hudson says except he misses out how drop dead she is.

  • Poor Hazel, to die so young.

  • GEORGINA IS NOW ON THE AMERICAN SOAP OPERA CALLED THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL

  • To good to be true. Probably going to be eaten up by lawyer's fees and debts. Just wait and see. Poor Rose.

  • Oh, Hazel knows!

  • When I first saw Mrs. Hamilton I thought she would be a fine match for Lord Richard...

  • @kefaad I saw that coming as soon as they met and got in a fight

  • Georgina is a snake and Hazel is so naive.

  • @maryhill2005 Hazel is far from naive....

  • Roses inheritance would be 53,179.89 GBP or 84,855.05 USD in 2011

  • @KingDT2007

She could buy a house with that in those days..your conversion to the value of her money Today would merely be a deposit on one!!

  • @YORKIESCHANNEL Correct. The cost of housing world wide in the last 30 years has risen at a very significant rate the house my parents bought here in staten island NY cost them $47500 in 1975 today $47500 would be around $195,393.63 adjusted for inflation however if it were on the market the house would sell around 400,000 + or - 35000. In the UK i can know housing is much more expensive than the US and the avg house in the uk has less space than the typical american home.

  • @KingDT2007

Yes..I love the size of your houses over there, but then again..you have room to stretch your feet over there(a lot more space)you could fit our Country into the bottom corner of yours, our land has a higher value cos theres not much of it over here.

  • @KingDT2007 Yes, Rose's windfall would, in current US dollars, represent at least $100K but more likely about $200K in terms of what it could purchase. Many middle-class families in 1918 had annual incomes far less than what Rose received as a lump sum from Sgt. Wilmot's estate.

  • @KingDT2007 Eighty-five grand? Yes, please! :)
