"But I threw it away because there was no PLPLTTP in any word in the dictionnary..."
How was it that he INVENTED all the letters of the alphabet if a dictionnary had already been written? Not trying to spoil the fun in this segment....just saying. I still love it!
LMAO "....except the letter 'PLTPLT', and there is no 'PLTPLT', so what's the sense?" Hahahahaha I used to die laughing at this one when I was little.
Victor Borge was a Danish pianist/comedian, who had an accent that sounded somewhat similar to the one Sid Caesar is doing in this skit. There are plenty of Victor Borge videos on YouTube, some of which even involve the Muppets.
The guy inside Big Bird's suit uses his right arm/hand to work the mouth - so he only has his left one in the puppet's "arm" - at least that's what I believe is going on there.
Yeah...Elmo isn't a bad guy in himself; the bad thing was CTW/Sesame Workshop's decision to give Elmo even more exposure than Big Bird used to get. (If Jim Henson hadn't died seventeen years ago, he'd probably be furious at the idea of ANY one character having his own fifteen-minute spot in every episode!)
You hit the nail right on the head. It's not fair the way so many people flat out detest Elmo, because there hasn't been a single character in the history of the show good enough to hog the spotlight. It's about everyone, and no one is the best. If Jim had been alive to hear all these pointless objections to the real Sesame Street, he'd probably say, "either it stays as it is, or it goes off the air."
Well, Henson wouldn't have had any say in that regard, since it wasn't his show and he wasn't in control of it. But I do think that if he was still alive, the character of the modern show would be different--Henson's presence would probably have kept things from getting as relatively mild-mannered and tame as they've gotten in recent years--I think he would have found it frustrating to work with the newer tone. Wherever possible he would have maintained his brand of humor. Just my guess, though.
You're right, Marbles. In fact I read an interview with Frank Oz in recent months where he called the current Sesame Street "sh--t"... now I thought that was pretty blunt, but honest. He said when he worked with Henson the muppets were edgy and interesting, and today all of that is pretty much gone from children's television. I wish I could find that article again. It was very much what you just said.
That sketch cracked me up too, between the "letter [Bronx cheer]" and the idea of someone who knew nuclear physics but not the alphabet. Four stars from me!
