  • I have been playing pool for a few months now and never heard of the diamond system. Im sure i'll find it usefull in the future. thanks for posting this.

  • you should do a demonstration with the white ball right on the 10 diamond and the other ball 2 inches away from the 4th diamond :D

  • Okay, great idea! Thanks for the tip!

  • at 1:33 when you start talking about being off the number 10 diamond by 2 inches, that you should adjust 2 inches away from the number 4 diamond on the opposite side.

    are you sure?

any distance away from the intended side pocket should be halved.

if you're off 2 inches of the 10 diamond, then the adjustment is one inch off of the 4 diamond.

  • I'm actually having a glass of wine and the question just gave me a headache! :)

    Thanks!

  • its more of a comment than a question.

any distance away from the intended side pocket should be halved.

if your 2 inches off the 10 diamond then the adjustment is one inch off the 4 diamond, not 2 inches.

does that ball double kiss at 2:17?

  • hello

  • After many year of practice bank I finally discovered the secrert from a brilliant pool player the dimiond system does not work very well nor the mirror system but Im not going to reveal the secrect

  • What better place to reveal the secret than on youtube! Everyone's waiting, including me. Thanks for the comment,

    Dean

  • Hello and thanks for posting. My question is related to rail compression. Doesn't rail compression hold the ball up 1/2 diamond?

  • I wouldn't put too much emphasis on rail compression, just know your diamonds. Thanks for the comment,

    Dean

  • i've not understood the 2nd part.

  • hi, i just wanted to ask you a question. sometimes you get such an angle on the cue ball and the object ball that when you want to bank the object ball(lets say in the side pocket) you get a double kiss which you certainly don't want. do u have any advice on how to avoid that? thanks

  • personally, in this instance i use a bit screw back to avoid the double kiss, have also used top-away from the target ball to avoid the kiss. but a small amount of back is a much safer shot to play i find as most times you play this type of shot your pretty straight on the target ball and often close to the cushion.

  • This would totally depend on what kind of shot I'm shooting, if I need the cue ball to stop after the shot, just the perfect amount of "Screw Back" is required, but this question is hard to answer because your not give me an example shot.

    Thanks for watching

  • I always use the diamonds as a reference on bank shots.

  • Thanks

  • hey dude, great videos! but how do i compensate if i got a shot where the cue ball is 2 inches away from the 10th Diamond, while the ball i'm hitting is exactly on the 4th Diamond?

  • great video! i always rely on luck when hitting shots like this. but i'm kinda lost... how do you compensate when the angle isn't right?

  • Keep it simple, just use the diamond as a starting point. Thanks and good luck with your game

    Dean

  • yes, It's very easy when the cue ball and object ball are at exact opposite ends, but what I cant figure is when the cue ball is in the middle and the object ball is on the rail, or vise versa. Or if they are both directly in line with each other. Any pointers there?

  • Good Questions, again the diamonds can be used many different ways, I only explained one of them. There are books out there explaining these many different methods of using the diamonds, I may do another video on these methods, some are a little complicated but work.

So, Because of your comments, we will all get a little better at this game, so thanks and keep watching...

    Dean's

  • if you could do another that would be amazing. I've gone through a lot of different videos on youtube trying to get that final edeg on my game, and yours have improved my game the most by far! I just wanna say thanks again, and I look forward to the addition of more videos

  • Thanks for the comment, very nice

Yes I'm doing more videos and thinking about a book, only because someone suggested that I write a book, maybe on my experiences growing up in pool halls etc... what do you think?

    Dean

  • are the any books out there that deal with bar sized tables.....do the laws of the diamond system apply to all sizes of tables?

  • dude, i usually dont comment on tutorials, but man your videos are tip top. Ive been playing for a couple of years now, and its like anything else...FUNDAMENTALS + REPETITION = EXCELLENCE

Man, and to illustrate that point: I'm solid at making bank shots (doggy style too) and have never even thought about looking at the DAMN DIAMONDS RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!

thats a missed fundamental, and I cant wait to shot again.

Thanks Dean, Ill be back with questions

  • Dude, your short simple videos are nice. Im not one for commenting on clips, but your responses are really well spoken ( and sometimes you explain in even better depth in your text). So, big ups man. Im sure I'll be back with some questions. thanks

  • you're the best dean 10x a lot your videos helped me a lot in pool :)

  • Thanks for the comment, much appreciated and I'm glad it helped. There is a lot more to the diamond system, I just went over some basic tips, learn as much as you can about the diamonds, they could really help your game, good luck

    Dean

  • now i can do it but im still not getting it 100% some times i mis

  • We all miss, keep playing and don't quit, the more you play the better you will get, good luck with your game.

    Dean

  • Thank you so much - I now can do it!

  • Your Welcome - Thanks for viewing some of my tips, hope they are helpful

    Dean

  • Nice video! It would've been easier to show if the camera was getting a higher angle.

  • I agree, maybe on the next set of videos I'll recommend a high angle camera.

    Thanks

    Dean

  • No, he's right. The path of the object ball is gonna be the same if you hit the ball full in the face with the same power the same distance from the rail. If you move both balls 2 inches to your right, the ball will hit two inches right of the point it hits the pocket at, though you may get lucky as the pocket on a 9-footer is huge. If you move the cue ball 2 inches to your right, you need to move the object ball 1 inch to the right for it to still be a dead bank.

  • i always wondered what the diamonds were for! haha! thanks! :P

  • hmmm....seems to me if the q and object ball were both 2" to the right of the diamond, you'd have to strike the object ball on the right(instead of dead center). Otherwise the ball would end up 2" to the right of desired pocket.

  • You are correct, freakandfrak. To illustrate, consider this exaggeration: move the obect ball and the cue ball a full diamond right each. Just like the two inch demonstration, the angle remains the same. If you hit the shot, you will fall way short. When moving the origin point but not the destination point, you do need to adjust your angle's vertex. The ball still dropped in his 2 inch shot because the vertex simply needs a 1 inch adjustment, which fell within his shot's margin of error.

  • I have experimented with 3, 4 and 5 rail bank shots. Does this system work for that or is there another secret to multiple bank shots as well?

  • The same rule applies, just account for the additional rails. Practice 1, 2 and 3 rail bank shots and mark where the cue ball is supposed to stop each time, do this and you will be an expert in no time.

    good luck

    Dean

  • Do you have a video for cross banking, reverse banking and for banks that you have to use bottom outside english?

  • Some of my favorite shots are cross banks and kick shots, I do have a video demontrating a 1 rail kick shot but none on cross banks. I will include a tip on cross banks in my next set of Dean's Pool Tips, thanks for the comment.

    Dean

  • Yes, the measurements are the same at both ends...

    Dean - "Dean's Pool Tips"

  • Are the diamonds the same for the foot and head of the table?

  • brilliant videos for newbies to pool

  • Thanks, hope you enjoyed watching Deans Pool Tips...have a bunch more coming out...

    Dean

  • nice update as always
