Anna saheb what a song. Anna never depended upon any hero to make his hits. His songs were his exclusively, and the heroes were just add ons. Asha and Lata sing soulfully. The grand beauty Meena Kumari adds to the grandeur of the song. Shyama is lovely. Thanks skz7691
In a film song where other considerations are more important than the notes, it is not always easy to say precisely on which raag the song is based -especially when its a question of two raags that are so close to one another as Hamsadhwani and Shankara ..!
..Kahena mere hothon per, rookti huee aahein, ya raasta unka hai, ya meri nigahe hai. What a poetry comparing her anxious LONELY EYES awaiting him, TO the DESTERTED PATH (road) he may arrive from.
Shyama is superb in this song. Asha's voice modulations and all .. "between the lines" expressions were perfectly shown by Shyama. What an example of lyrics, composing, voice and acting ! fantastic.
Dear Viswan1942, Tum ko piya was sung by Lata and Usha Mangeshkar. This song is a beautiful duet of Lata and Asha no doubt. Lata is great fine ! but just hear carefully the Asha'a voice. It was 1957 and Lata was at the top.. but Asha put her everything in the voice and I personally think that she is better than Lata in this song. Hats off to Ashatai !
as a very young child, I use to go out in the night and watch the " chand" walking along with me, I thought i really understood the meanings, naturally on Radio !!
Excellent downloading. The best duet ever by Lata-Asha. In my list next comes "Tum ko Piya". Ramachandra !!! what a composer he was,may his soul reat in sargam in swarg.
Shyama sang with Madhubala 'Bol Papihe Bol' in a very similar situation for film Tarana.Meena Kapoor was the other singer with Lataji.Anil Biswas composed music for the film.
A honey-soaked duet. And the beauty and talent of Both Meena and Shyama are abundantly evident as well. Does anyone doubt that after Madhubala, Shyama had the most exquisite smile -- sweet but mixed with an endearing playfulness?
Great Song. Sound and Video is out of synch though.

agree with all. Beautiful composition in Raag Hansadhwani I think.

@SPChitale Sounds like Raag Shankara to me. But I am no expert.
I have uploaded Kumar Gandharva's Shankara, "sir pe dhari Ganga" this song sounds similar to that.
