What keeps the tracks from slipping, either off or just letting the tires spin in the tracks? I couldn't see teeth on the rear wheels or on the inside of the tracks to keep them from throwing when cornering.

it must have some type of transfer case that you can disengage the rear drive, and only make it front drive for the doly-transprt add on peice. Its a good idea, but too much shyt to go wrong, and to complicated. It wouldnt last very long in the elements of loggin in the north-west/north-east, and canada. Ill keep my tire chains and and air compressor.

Good idea having a half track like that. Band tracks are becoming far more more reliable. I"m not sure about military applications though. They've been tested on the M113 chassis and I think they'll need more development to deal with extremes of hot and cold for military use.

@428ghost Yep Cold with Snow and Ice like here in Canada Would rip those rubber tracks apart Most of the reason we use chains On the tires If need be and rubber on Ice isn't very good At all If you want to move any were at an kind of speed.

@cdarting91 yea, im still puzzled on the begining of the clip, if you look its got a doly like setup underneath the rear tracs, but if it is all whel drive, how do you keep the rear tracks/wheels from spinning on the dolly-transport, and only have the front spin? Its def' and odd setup.

@surfnfx at 3:57 it runs just fine down the road. IIRC the truck can still run down the road as it uses the dual tires at the front and rear with the track lug fitting between the tires to keep the track on. Pretty neat really.

For construction, the articulated off-road 6X6 dump truck is probably a better choice.

For agriculture, the general idea is to avoid compacting the soil with with numerous oversize tires and/or tracks.

There is no substitute for dedicated equipment.

The "Half Track" was used in WW2... I can tell this is different from the "Half Track"... but the proof of concept proves its viability... it can haul quite a load thru some difficult muddy terrain that other trucks would just get stuck or bottom out in.

@robby844 You don't know what you are talking about do you ? It's not even FWD IT'S AWD , the rear wheels are locked when loaded on the trailer for easy transportation but when it's off the trailer all wheels are used.

And for FWD being pointless , at least you can drive in snow with FWD , all RWD vehicles without proper tires will stand still , a fwd vehicle will have grip.

Not very useful because usually on a work-site before starting real work there's always some work done to clear up the road for trucks and this kind of truck is a loss of time and fuel.

Not alot of clearance with the trailer wheels, a heavy load could produce alot of friction beetween metal and tyre resulting in a puncture, which in turn could be very dangerous...
