I Have an old VHS of when it was originally released with this exact music. If someone sped it up the music would sound different or the sound effects would be off. This is proper speed.
That may be the case, this may be from the same VHS. I don't know think we will agree either way. I just know it's impossible for a car to take a Left 2 corner at the speeds shown in the video.
Please watch the following video which shows some of the clips shown in this video in REAL-TIME.
I was just watching this video again and noticed that the comment that I made 3 years ago "I keep watching this video over and over again... it's just such an awesome display of skill!" is still one of the highest rated comments.. and it's still valid too, LOL! :-D
Everybody on your knees, the Rally GOD is here. Listen that lung powered by a 128ci, two-valve-per-cylinder, DOHC, five-banger that sported 7.6:1 compression and a single turbo K27 produced +600hp manual 6 gear's in H mode.
This car makes noises like few others in history, #1 noise for me.
Funny Story with crazy Fans: Röhrl Drove a Track and passed 3 times one corner. There was a guy standin on the track and jumped away the last second befor the car would hit him. First time Röhrl kicked the brakes. second time again, but softer. On the third time he thought: Ok, if u want to die..." and accelerated.
Another cool story: years earlier he got oranges as a present of a fan. During a part of the track the net opened and the oranges got under the braking pedal. While he was driving top speed he throwed all Oranges out of the window... Sorry for my bad english
Driven an Audi S1 or Lancia Delta S4 over a 2000 mile Rally like the Lombard RAC Rally in 1986 then? Somehow, I seriously doubt it. I also seriously doubt you've ever driven a proper car like that faster than Walter Rohrl. Oh, and Rohrl was voted the best Rally Driver in history by an Italian panel of judges, and Niki Lauda called him "Genius on Wheels". I don't even see how you can call this slow.
2. This is official PR material from the 80s, the song was used a couple times in a documentary of Audi's group B efforts.
3.I've just found out the song is "If I Say Stop, Then Stop" by Georgie Red. I've been waiting literally my whole life to find this out. This song and this video and that car is my one memory from me at 5 yrs old that I will never forget.
Incredible driving skill to keep the legendary Quattro on track, but Group B power was insane. I wonder how many spectators were killed during that era? Those numbnuts were just standing there waiting to be executed!
its all in your head. the double clutch downshifts must come to you naturally you must not think about it. if you can do like that, than you can call yourself a DRIVER
Still watching it at least once a week. It's awesome to see and a brilliant example of all the skills one can learn when one is dedicated enough; very fast reaction and response times while performing complex operations.. almost 'without thinking'.
P.S.: still searching for the name of the song! :)
My feet are dancing around again, just the illusion of them moving around almost like Walter's is pure pleasure! :D
blade - there was few type of S1, first one had classic quattro gearbox with synchros on all gears except 1st and R, final version had SMGlike gearbox with 2 axial clutches -this gearbox version was tested on RAC rally 1996 if i am not wrong
NORTHLAX- i would just keep driving and it would be there fault if they got knocked down, plus they also led to group b rally cars being banned because of injury and shear power of the cars....
yhe quattro was a great car, but peugeot had the best team, jean tod had 2 great pilots salonen and kankunnen, and let's be sincere, the quattro wasn't very easy to drive, especially the s 1...
I know i have posted the same message everywhere but need all to know In 2004/5/6? (cannot remember) a metro 6r4 (probably the slowest of the Groub B Cars) came 8th despite going off backwards at 80mph, and set some fastest stage times in Ireland Overal against the WRC cars (at the hands of Colin McRae RIP) just goes to show that a well driven S1/T16/S4 could possibly still win rallies over 20 years later against modern technology.
There's been a huge gain in tires over the last 20 YEARS, semi auto gearboxes and turbo anti-lag, but although the WRC motors run turbo restrictors don't be fooled by their stated 300hp max. Modern WRC motors are all about torque and most have well over 500 NM so they're basically equal in torque to the Group B cars, just missing top end power due to the restrictor, but they're not geared for top end anyways!
You said it all... Tires have changed more in the past 20 years than the automobile has in the last 50, minus that of electronic advancements. What the WRC needs to do is go back to group B rules and learn some crowd control... It doesn't take a genius to know that if a bunch of people are standing on the outside of every corner that eventually someones going to get hit.
The weight class the S4 and T16 were in was 960Kg min (that's why they were only 1750cc) so they are still SH*T fast off the line but harder to drive because of H pattern gearboxes, left foot braking to counter turbo lag and they didn't have active diffs.
The fact that they're harder to drive plus have no driver aids is why all Group B rally drivers kick ass compared to almost all modern drivers with all their electronic aids
try to break with your left foot and hit the gas pedal with the right to hold the pressure of the turbo!!! I almost killed myself ;-). Sorry for my bad english greetz from germany
heel toe is SOOO much harder than just double clutching. you really have to practice on a track or a road with nobody on it. i tried and almost rear ended someone lol

Awesome car awesome driver just a shame that group b had to be cancelled. those spectators were insanely stupid standin that close though. they were stupid

Weeellll... The first 1984 Sport Quattro produced 305bhp and later, in 1985, but before launching the Sport Quattro s1, 444bhp.
Yet in 1985 Audi launched the Sport Quattro S1, but this time, with approximately 600bhp.
There were a few versions in a short period of time, which creates some confusion regarding their bhp!
The same happened with the Delta S4, which the first versions produced 450bhp and 612bhp(although unofficial!), in the Tour de Corse final version...
