Ah, the music soundtrack is coming back to me..I remember this was similar to Iczer-One music. I do remember it was a pretty good show with great opening and closing songs.

Wow. I remember seeing this like it was only yesterday. Of course I didn't see it until 1997 when I used to rent anime videos from a local Blockbuster video store. But I loved this. It was definitely worth a good while. And I gotta say the character and mecha designs are awesome for an anime that dates back to 1987.

Agreed. That vhs release with the first episode missing and wretched dub is one of the worst hack jobs ever done to an anime.

Fuck yeah Hajataisei Dangaio: Combining the best aspects of American Superhero comics with bonecrushing Super Robot action. And you can't forget that GREAT ending in part 3.

Until the late 90's Getter Robo, this was the best Super Robot Anime for a LONG time.

Damn, this is something I haven't seen in a LONG time. This was one of the first anime tapes I ever owned- I had the original US Renditions version, even before Manga Video got the rights to it. Have not seen this in over a decade.

Although its not well known or not as popular as other anime mechs. Dangaioh was one robot with a very cool design. Not generic-Gundam or Battroid-type(MACROSS) in design.

Now this Anime is off the chain! It takes traditional themes and gave them a complete revamp. This and the other two parts of the original Dangiao is perhaps one of the greatest animes of the early 90's.

I have this Dangaio OAV. Another great robot series is Neon Genesis Evangelion.

i've been dying to find this copy on DVD but there's only the english dubbed version now. and even worse, is the new "great dangiaoh" series. they're awful. any chance you have the entire original set on DVD for sale?

Despite being completely hand draw Japanese animated serials like Dangaio are visually more stylish and vibrant than must CGI movies out there.

Oh, definitely. Hand-drawn cels were absolutely beautiful. It's a shame the industry standard is CG faux cels now, because they lack the life of the originals.

I remember watching Macross for the first time in a long time and crying out, "THOSE HAND-PAINTED BACKGROUNDS ARE BEAUTIFUL!"
