Actually the problem was they didnt want to release the sheet because they didnt want to re deploy another spinaker ..... I would call it crazy ballzy sailing not bad .... in the end they only lost 200 yards, releasing it would be 2000 ... but yes letting the mainseet go a little more would have helped, the jibe was cause by turning the boat not the wind, it was actually a pretty decent save in the end
@ryts92 do you actually know what you're talking about? You Spelt gybe like jibe so it would be very hard to even trust that you know what you are on about. K thanks bye
the problem wasnt the mainsheet it was that the boat was dead downwind and the spinnaker was al the way to windward so when the boat was hit by a weird wave or a shift the kte rotated more to windward which made the boat accidentally jibe. Possible solutions in heavy wind to avoid this are to never go dead-downwind and never have the spinnaker pole very far off the forestay to avoid having the spinaker drive the boat down. this is another example of why asymmetrical sprit boats are better
An actual STARGATE/PORTAL-THING was caught on film in New Mexico. The footage can be found within the short-film entitled "SUDDEN PORTHOLE", which is parked at the PROJECT CAMELOT YouTube page (it's under the George Noory video).
I'm not selling anything…I'm just trying to spread the word about the unseen-dimensions we find ourselves embedded in.
My BLOG contains peripheral data regarding the movie and is where I reply to the "debunkers" (use search words "SAM ZURICK" & "BLOG"). THANKS!!
hilarious all of you arm chair sailors, you all have such wise sage advice as to what he should have done in a split second. 1.The vessel is running down wind with spinnikar full power, main sail set to dump wind into the spinnikar,he gets knocked down and has an uncontrolled jibe, the vessel is still basically running down wind,to let out the main sheet would add more power to it at the moment the vid ends. The only way out of the mess is to come into the wind and dump wind.
Response to fear of broach - Raced my life time with tons of broaches - my Dad would calmly say, "sheets out girls" (I was only girl) repeat it and if need be once again - no screaming ever on Another Girl - we've torn the wind indicator off twice - sheets out, she chugs, kinda groans, starts to pop back up and whacks back down then she pops up, shakes off the water on her mainsail, pull the sheets in and off we go - just lost 11 boats but that was fun:)! No fear ever, not once!
@jamesandrew i agree with you mate, when you're sailing on the edge like that even the best sailors can fuck up, a broach like that can throw people across boats, it takes time to get back on the rails, the problem was that the pressure hit the spinny rolled the boat to windward and the shape of the hull did the rest of the work, if they had the chance they should have gently headed up, also someone should have called that gust and they should have been prepared for it, over all a major disaster
it takes common sense to ease off the main sheet and bear into the wind sailing is the hardest with a small boat.
this is why every normal person learns "how to sail" on a pico or laser but the rich guys just go and buy a big boat but thats all right they got the money to fit it too.
You expect knee jerk comments on monster truck videos, but it seems surprising here for some reason. If you know enough about sailing to use the terminology you might have been on a big boat at speed. Even skilled helmsman have lost rudder control at max hull speed. Either downwind or power reaching, one minute you're surfing, the next second shit hits the fan. The amount of time it takes to regroup after the inevitable is the difference in racing.
whats great about sailing is that if you get into trouble like that theres no "ALRIGHT!!!!! I'VE HAD ENOUGH!!!!!!!! Press the off button on the wind!!!!!!" you have to keep going no matter what XD this sport is awesome
It appears to me the helmsman may have been distracted a moment by the passing boats spinnaker flying or the boat to his port side, should have headed to starboard.
A knock is the boat being pushed by the wind. A knock down or knock over is the boat's mast getting parallel with the water and the boat not being able to be righted by wind i.e. you don't recover under sail. A complete knock down is the boat capsizing fully.

@ioscope its called a chinese gybe, too much windward heel makes the boat want to head down and then accidentally gybe

That second boat's skipper should have let fly the main sheet.
