But I think, the F14 was faster, heavier and had still enough room for upgrades to keep it up-to-datem so I really wonder, why they put em out of service... wings can be rebuilt for life extension programs, so why???? This is the first time since the 1920s, that the navy doesn´t rely on Grumman products, that can´t be good!

@Lusth0g The F-14 Tomcat certainly had more than the ability to enjoy a long service life like the B-52 Stratofortress which is now an antique, but highly functional. Big mistake by our dumbass govt. to take the F-14 out of service. Also it's a bit of an insult to Grumman, considering it was their aircraft that played the biggest role in winning the War in the Pacific during WWII.
