was it just my grinding, the fact I have the dawn of souls version, or am I just that good because I never had trouble with hill gigas. REVENANTS, on the other hand....
I know the video is old, but it would of been a good idea to equip Guy with the Giant Helmet for extra power, which should put his atk high enough to land more hits easily increasing the chance for curse. One mistake I think you make in this LP is being too focused towards magic, and not focused enough towards melee and strengthening melee by prolonging enough battles. Another good idea would be to follow up a curse with a sleep sword, but that relies on better atk.
In the last battle with a Gigas, I used Maria's FIRE which was at level 5. Dealt about 130 damage per round and the gigas dies before Guy could land a successful curse. It seems to be a bit more efficient than trying to Berserk your other party members while waiting for curse to work.
@Vyse195 no Hiryuu was a dragon in final fantasy 5 but a hiryuu did belong to the guardian of wind i guess is what you would call that guy although you probably don't care by now
@Blackdrake1 Oh! Was not aware of that. I should've figured with the word Drake involved. I didn't even think about it lol. Thanks for the information.
I just use berserk on the top guy who I have with a sword and it seems to work well enough. Curse never seem to work as it always misses but just beserk the sword user and equip him with the wing sword and you won't have too much problems with the gigas. But I agree. They are really out of place to be showing up as random encounters in this dungeon at this point in the game.
Your party is dead. While the game over music plays, let us mourn the loss of our comrades... and then we move on. I mean, it just can't end here.
I know I pick on this game for being confusing at times, but at least I prefer this game over FFV. FFVI I believe is slightly longer, but FFV just feels a hell of alot longer.
Yeah, the Gigas battles are pretty tough, which is why before getting to this dungeon I try to have over 900 HP for everyone so I can make sure that if I face 2 at a time there'd be a low chance of them killing someone if they both attacked the same person in 1 turn. You mentioned, however that you shouldn't wait to get higher HP for this, but I'm not sure why not, it's not a lot of HP and no enemy (that I remember) uses drain in this dungeon. So it shouldn't be a big deal.
The trouble with Blind is that in my testing, it doesn't work effectively enough without working in conjunction with Blink. Even then, a single hit can be pretty bad. Without grinding, this place can be a little rough.
@HCBailly use the book not the spell lol Blind is amazing in book form... then use the Ruse/Blink spell on all (to respective translation) and your golden...
@HCBailly use the book not the spell lol Blind is amazing in book form... then use the Ruse/Blink spell on all (to respective translation) and your golden...
i hate when some thing like that happens in a video game. you get through a very though area then all of a sudden something deadly comes along and kills you! And you lose all that work!!
@Demongunner7 Yea its downright impossible to run without shields and very difficult even with them so in this game you just save often and fight everything.
Those Gigas monsters couldn't touch Firion on my team... I don't know if it's a glitch or whatever but if you equip two sheilds onto someone, it levels up the sheild level and the monsters cannot physically hit him =OEven the higher level ones at Fynn later on =/
o0f. Rough Beats, Sir Bailly. I like how you showed the Gigas beating for all to enjoy. The PSX Gigas seems a bit softer in comparison, thank goodness.
so i faced the gigas just now, what worked for me was the spell blink, i just blinked everyone then had guy curse the gigas (got lucky and only took one hit to curse each one) and then Berserked 3ed the party. Only took about 4 turns. Maybe that can help in thr future?
Ah yes, the good ol' Gigas. I had my fair share of trouble with them in my recent playthrough of FF2 DoS. The good news is that my characters' HP, evasion, and defense seemed to rise considerably when they actually defeated them.
What happens if you equip both the ancient sword and the sleep sword, then as soon as you do one or the other to both gigases switch your shield back. I know sleep's not as good but if the accuracy count adds it's better than missing with curse. If you kept those max soul/int items I wonder if that would have helped. Or you could level up berserk to like 4 or 5 and always cast it on everyone, or at least on Guy more.
Or taught it to someone as a backup plan, so you could hit a Gigas with Curse twice in one round. Doubling my chances against one (or two) of those guys sounds like a smart plan to me.
Or do you intend to fill all 16 slots on them otherwise, Bailly?
I intend to use as few spells as possible, so as to minimize grinding time, while still avoiding incredibly hard battles for the most part. The battle I demonstrated here is the only one that is remotely challenging.
It's always been my opinion that this was the hardest FF. It appears that may very well be true. Just like 1ingedauron though, I usually concentrate on killing one at a time and I use all the characters to do it.
Heh, the Wyvern in the GBA version makes the Hiryuu in this version look so weak.
Nice point with finding the bathroom, though there isn't one. o-O
My startegy agains Gigas' is just attacking one with the entire party, Curse helps but I would've attacked only one of them to kill it faster, maybe the un-cursed one leaving only the weaker one left.
I was completely unprepared for that fight. When I make my trips to the lower levels, I usually like to put Firion and Maria in the back rows, so that they can freely remove their equipment and allow their spells to do the work. What I would do in that instance is the same strategy, but they would never get to my mages. At worst, even if they killed off Layla and Guy, I could have Firion cast Life every round, and hope that at least one of them survives, so that my back row remains intact.
I like how the theme of the castle resembles the battle theme (foreshadowing?).

That's unnecessary for a few reasons.
1) I got extraordinarily unlucky. Usually I will only run into a single Gigas.
2) I didn't prepare my party to handle such a battle. With the right adjustments, even the battle in which I died is winnable.
3) After this area, the enemies return to tolerable difficulty levels. Gigas is just way out of place in the game for a random encounter.
