  • Reminds me of my HVAC classes. I will admit I miss school. Just too bad I couldn't go back and do it again.

  • Oh, what I 'd give for you as a neighbor...and I don't like neighbors!!! Jan...you are the Queen of the chaulk board...Thank you for your knowledge and for instructiong us laymans(I'm only speaking for myself)See you in the Vapehaze girl.

  • @steeljan Your DIY box mod video is the most concise, educational, safest vid on the net. Thanks for posting, keep up the great work and thank you for inspiring me to build a box mod. I got all my parts at the Shack last night and am chomping at the bit to get started. If it's okay with you, I'd like to ask you questions during my build. Please let me know if you're alright with that. Being a career welder, I'm good with soldering but I'm not as knowledgeable when it comes to electronics.

  • @Damagecase55 Thanks. Sure, you can ask me anything. I'm not on my computer everyday, but I'll get back with you asap. Remember to use only protected batteries. Or, you could build a puck mod that uses nimh, you might want to check out puckecigs dotcom for details on that and then see my puck mod video too. Cheers!

  • I wish you were my aunt

  • thanks! = )

  • You are to cool.

  • Your awesome!

  • youre awesome. doing this right now haha.

  • i made it but im affraid to use it

  • @pudding247 There's nothing to be afraid of. This is the lowest voltage. It hardly even gets warm.

  • @Sirkut0011 He's probably not scared of the voltage, you're right, it's extremely low. He's probably scared of the huge current load and risking the battery exploding if the protection circuitry fails to work properly if there's any sort of short-circuit in his mod.

  • You are so awesome. You make me feel like I am in 8th grade again. lol

  • man im scared to use these now, all this stuff i read about the batteries exploding. Please tell me this is fear mongering by these guys on the forum . Im worried to even keep it in my house now! lol i have 14650 battery

  • hi steeljan , i have a questilon for you as you seem to be quite good with electronics. i built an 18650 box mod with 2 cells parallel. my switch is rated 3 amp 125v ac . it works fine with regular attys but LR ones weld the switch . any idea what size resistor i could put inline to slow the current just enough to make switches last? thanks

  • @gtrguy32 Adding an in-line resistor will limit the current, but you are using a LR atty because you want all that current, that high wattage, that heat, at the coil, yes? 12W If you have a 1.5ohm LR atty and put a 1.5ohm power resistor in series with it, you now have 3ohms, same as a standard atty. Fully charged batteries, that's 4.2V divided by 3ohms = 1.4A. 6W

And I hope you are using protected batteries, not IMR batteries in your mod.

  • @steeljan thanks for the quick reply. i use lr attys for the hotter vapor they produce. actually i am using imr 18650 2100mah high discharge cells . there good for 5c discharge so im more than safe with those. i only charge with my computerized charger meant for nicd / nimh / li-ion / li-po. i also monitor my cells for heating issuse which cause the batterys to vent. what im trying to make is a "snubber" iirc . slows current flow until switch makes full contact. anti spark of sorts . thanks

  • @gtrguy32 Ah, you are wanting to make a switch debouncing circuit! I put one of those in all the computer boards I designed, but it was for digital accuracy, not for instantaneous amps control per se.

The reason I am leery of vaping an IMR battery is because there is no protection if short-circuited. And since these batteries do have such a high C rating, their short-circuit reaction could be catastrophic, especially if the device is already on/in a person's face at the time.

  • you ROCK ... i am just afraid of the smoke that comes out of it

  • @MrPoppinballz It's not smoke, it's exactly the same as what comes out of those fog machines at concerts and in clubs. It's just a soft fluffy water vapor. That's how this came to be known as vaping. Thanks for watching. Take care.

  • @steeljan yea i know it isnt smoke... i vape and soon enough i will be making my own box mod... its that if you dont make it properly things inside the box will start to burn like the atty connector.. it has to be very accurate or else... oh well too much to fit in a text hahaha

  • wow read the part about the batterys and whilst i was not concerned about it blowing in my pocket i forgot the part about charging it indoors as i do it overnight. thank you for the heads up i will have to think again about charging solutions

  • @number1barber Yes, I tend to harp about safety with these batteries as I see so many youtube videos where folks are handling these lithium cells as casually as they do flashlight batteries. Cheers!

  • its great you are making videos but no idea why you did a schematic? how about just drawing a battery a switch and a atomiser? you may find people who dont understand schematics will look elsewhere and those who do probably dont require one to do a box mod. a tube mod video would be cool as they are simple also last two days and can be taken outside without looking stupid after all you are replacing a cigarette so its good not to go too far off track but for indoors this looks useful

  • @number1barber Sorry, I was not thinking about people not being able to follow while I drew a very simple schematic. See my recent Elmo mod video on building a variable voltage mod, I actually do it all close-up and personal on camera, every solder joint, no schematic. Oh well, can't please 'em all I reckon, lol. Cheers!

  • This video is great. From now on I will be making mods....

  • @jaythelegend21 Glad to hear it. If you're interested in making variable voltage mods, I've got two videos up showing how to do that as well. Cheers!

  • @steeljan hey steeljan, i am making my own box mod right now, just a question here about batteries. Can I use a Nimh type battery for box mods?

  • @jaythelegend21 Yes you can, but you will need more of them since their native chemistry is 1.2V. I just sent you a private message with the details. Cheers and thanks for watching!

  • You - are -- a Very cool Lady!

  • @amandamaher Thanks!

  • You make me want to learn!

  • Because of you, I too mod :)

  • @wadcher Way to go. Just always stay safe modding. Cheers!

  • Awesome Vid Jan! You must be a school teacher! I Likey!

  • @QCAssociates LOL, sorry for the late feedback on your comment, just saw it. Nope, was never a school teacher, retired engineer here. We talk with chalk, lol, although these days it's mainly e-chalk, LOLOL!!!

  • Very cool. You go girl! I don't think I have seen such a concise and well thought out video on Modding. Bravo

  • Chalk board and everything!! Nice job. . . Going to watch part 2

  • @weirdbeer Thanks. Yeah, I figured just showing making it wasn't going to give enough info to anyone interested. Cheers!

  • I was waiting for this video but I didn't expect to learn so much about the operation of PVs and atomizers. Do you think dripping is the 'best' way to produce vapor? I hate the very idea of filler and have ordered a pile of ceramic cartos in various ohms to use with my (purchased) box mod.

  • Thanks, steeljan! I've been waiting for this very video but I didn't expect to learn so much about the operation of a basic PV and atomizer. (and especially straw or blue foam mods because I don't know what these materials release when heated). Do you think dripping is the 'best' way to vape? I've ordered a pile of ceramic cartos to avoid filler and having to drip.

  • @SheLuvsHerIpod For the AwesomeVapor Ego or any Joyetech Ego, I'm now using their mega-atomizer, holds 70 or so drops of juice and produces a ton of vapor and taste. It will not screw down on a standard box mod however. So yes, for my box mod I get the best vape by dripping it. For me, dripping works best if I only use 2 drops at a time, gives me about 12 vapes before dripping again. Thanks!

  • Holy crap Jan! You just reminded me of an engineering teacher I had once. lol. Great vids and I found the pipes but it seems like they only sell the juices with the actual tobacco flavor in them and I would rather not be reminded of the taste either. I rally just wnat something with only juice flavors. I was a 2 pack a day smoker when I quit so I worry about being rminded of the flavor.

  • @hoppinglion01 I was worried that vaping might make me want to go back to smoking, but not so. Thank God! Anyhoo, if you get an e-pipe, then just go to various vendors and buy (or make your own) e-liquid in whatever flavors you want. AwesomeVapor dotcom has lots of flavors and you can get them in whatever nicotine strength, or no nicotine at all.. however you want it. I gave away the carts that came with my Ego PV that contained nicotine. Thanks for the compliment about teaching! Cheers!

  • Great vid! Sounds like the "atomizer" is nothing more than the glow plug assembly from a gas-powered model airplane engine huh?

  • @ihikefar This is exactly what I'm looking for in showing this -- someone who will look at it and think outside the box on how it could be made differently. Yes, this is a very similar thing to a glow plug. Some experimenters are trying removing the glass from a tiny light bulb to use that filament. Lots of experiments going on. Thank you!

  • A lady who makes beer AND knows all about circuits and electronics. Not to sound sexist, but that is totally COOL! Loved your chalk board idea Jan. I might borrow that idea when I do my microphone video. Cheers!

  • @CraigTube Yeppers, lol. For me, when someone shows me a complete schematic, I don't understand it as completely as when they draw it out a piece at a time, describing the functionality as they go. (30 years as a hardware design engineer, in the beginning the only female engineer in my shop, during a time when women weren't welcome.. I could write a book, LOL!) Now, about that microphone......!!! Cheers my friend!

  • @steeljan I totally agree about their website and their marketing aimed at the youth but here in Ireland I couldn't really find any other place with their variety of flavourings and extras I'll keep u posted on how I'm getting on with it and I'll post a video on it when it arrives

  • I pulled the wick out of my atomizer

  • @bmeyer44 Yeah, me too, with a toothpick and tweezers. They have a tendency to fall down on the coil and melting onto it, producing an acrid taste. Yuk! Nearly sent me off to find a banana split! LOL!!! Hugs!

  • @steeljan yea I ordered the titan510 from totally wicked comes with 3 batteries and 3 atomisers and I ordered plenty of e-liquid and flavourings and I got glycerine in my local chemist here's to kicking the cigs.cheers jan

  • @yaap10 That should be an okay one, sure hope it is. I haven't been able to bring myself to order anything from totally wicked since their website is so cartoonish, seems targeted towards kids to me, trying to hook a new generation of nicotine addicts maybe. Just puts me off them.

  • Top class video once again steeljan thanks for explaining how these work i have my e-cig kit ordered since Tuesday last should have it on Monday or Tuesday so all going well I'll b vaporising and cigarette free this time next week cheers and thanks

  • @yaap10 You're very welcome and thanks. I hope you got a good one that has two good rechargeable batteries and at least two good atomizers. And I hope you ordered some extra e-liquid (juice) to go with it. My friends who stopped smoking with these told me that the filled cartridges that come with these are lacking, they had to put in their own choice of e-liquid to make them really satisfying. Guess there's a learning curve with all new things. My hat's off to you my friend. Cheers!
