@shetsak You need to download from somewhere. You dont need a data plan but a wifi connection would be useful. Also you could download from the web on your pc and just transfer and install them. The device itself doesnt need a data plan.

So my friend was selling me a G1 and I was thinking of trading my iPhone 3G for his. But after watching many videos of the G1 I'm not trading my iPhone for his G1. iPhone is so much better and also better than the droid, so I might stick with an iPhone for a while.

@CmdrTobs Yer the reason i wouldnt get an iphone is because android hardware is starting to becoem better than iphone and the apps are catching up fast . but to your question I wouldnt get the x10 as its launching with android 1.5( Missing a lot of featres) i was gonna get the legend its the cheaper version of the desire but i think it looks btter but its exclusive to vodaphone in the uk i think so im getting the desire it has more features and specs but its more expensive

@hattonaxeman Apperently the X10 will get 2.2 first, I read. But there is an AWFUL lot of bullshit out there. I can't even get accurate specs on the X10.

Not sure if it has a radio. Some say it has OLED some TFT. I have seen a large range of numbers for RAM and a few puzzling ones for "Rom" . The avg journalist knows SHIT and I mean shit. They spend all an article telling u about software features that you can change/replace/update anyway, instead of telling you basics like how much Ram it has

So I dunno.. The sonys camera is 8.1MP and better quality apparently and it comes with a 8GB mem card. so I duno.... decisions, decisions...

@hattonaxeman Well the nexus is Googles own phone actually made by HTC. For the HTC desire time will have to be allotted to updating the sense UI, but that could be meaningless if they get the firmware well before launch which they almost certainly will do. The question is could sony get the firmware before HTC? given google and HTC obvious close relationship.

The n1 did get 2.2 way before the others. So if rapid updates and clean bullshit free android snapdraggon phone is what you want the nexus 1 is a good choice.

I watched some of the Andriod developer stuff, as development is influencing my phone choice, and I must say Andriod does suck in a big way because you have this horrible delvik virtual machine that guzzles memory and slows everything down. Not to mention many find java horrible (including me). They have paid a HUGE price for making it virus proof. Too much imo.

Where as Symbien/Apple can be coded for easily in C...

@CmdrTobs The newer Android based phones have WAY better hardware than the old ones, though. You have to keep in mind that the nexus one has a 1ghz processor, without overclocking. And that runs the Android OS MUCH better than, say the G1.

And, there is a plugin for eclipse, so that you can code in C. So that pretty much solves those problems...

The hardware is newer but I don't think the acceleration is there. Not unitil the Samsung Galaxy S. HTC;s line up is slow 3D wise and you tube after youtube video of slow GLQuake performance seem to confirm this. That and the HTC benchmark app that clearly looks like a software render...
