Gun companies would experiment with new machine Gun designs for civilians and military without military contracts. The military probably wouldn't be stuck using ww2 machine-guns because free market innovation would have created better weapons.

The largest burst I ever did was only 18 rounds. I started with 50, and kept firing 6 round bursts untill I was zeroed in on a tank. As soon as I saw sparks fly, I turned her loose. I love the M2.
I recently got the chance to fire one of these in a semi auto version. The range was offering a rental at 8 dollars a round. I only fired one round and I was really impressed. This is the best weapon ever made. It has power, range, accuracy (45 inch barrel), not to much recoil, high rate of fire, you can mount it anywhere, and it is quite reliable.
@BRMraider Recoil... it has alot. A tripod is required at a minimum to shoot it. Rate of fire is actually slow. The reason being ammo conservation, so the barrel doesn't overheat quickly and to make its accurate. Because if the fire rate was high you would be all over the place and wouldn't hit anything.
@csbob2010 I only shot one round so i didnt get the full experience of the recoil. The one round didn't seem to have much but on full auto i can understand that it would kick alot. The rate of fire is slow but if you are putting .50 BMG down range, than any full auto rate of fire is going to cause alot of damage. So what I am saying is that the ROF is very effective. I have never been in a combat zone but I am quite sure that this weapon is one of the best or ale we wouldnt't us it for 90 years.

Do our armed forces usually have recruits use hearing protection at the range? I'd imagine a few thousand grains exploding per minute isn't too nice to your senses
@Noobpatty Yes, we are issues triple-flanged earplugs and a container for them. We use them at the range and in other hazardous noise environments. Hearing is important to situational awareness. There was a soldier in my unit that didn't get deployed because his hearing failed the test.
@mccall3421 First of all infantryman is your first mos in the u.s. army furthermore i don't know how it is now in the kinder gentler army but in my day every squad had a 50 cal. gunner and everyone in the platoon had to be qualified to use it.

My battalion was light airborne infantry and we had one fifty for our whole company and we never used it.

there is a T & E or (traversing and elevating mechanism) after the initial burst is fired you will more than likely be dead on on the next shot. This goes for all Heavy Class crew served weapons systems
Not everyone in the Army is going to be an infantryman so not everyone needs to be as proficient on the M2, unlike the Marines where a LARGE majority of them will be. Trust me, the infantrymen in the Army know how to shoot. Besides, YOU would be LUCKY if you could make it in the 101st or become a Ranger talking all that smack.

But what i don't understand, is why the M2 supposedly has noticable recoil when it is mounted on a jeep. Often, in videos, people complain of the high recoil, but shouldnt the recoil be transferred down into the vehicle? Or is it too big a round for that?
The mounting mechanism allows you to swivel the gun left/right and up/down quite a bit...so it's not bolted down like you think it would, otherwise you wouldn't be able to aim with it.
If you had arms big enough to shoulder an M2, you would see there's FAR more recoil when holding it than when its mounted on a humvee or configured for use on the ground.
@rpenri umm I don't know where you got the part about a LARGE majority of Marines using the M2 since the Army has a much much much larger combat arms force thus more of the Army would actually be using the Ma Deuce, a Marine cook, or quartermaster, or signal guy is still a POG and still not combat arms and won't be using a .50cal anymore then a cook, quartermaster, is signal guy in the Army. I DO agree that the kid talking crap isn't going anywhere and 101st all the way! AIR ASSAULT!!!
Marines are designed to be a fast reaction force. It stands to reason that MANY of them will be infantry or other combat oriented MOS. Yes, they've got cooks and admins and other crap...but the majority of their personnel are geared towards combat. The Army is, duh, an army. They're geared for long, drawn out campaigns...so they require many more of the support type (POG) MOS than the Marines.
I booted at Ft Jackson...on the day we went for the look at and how to's for the M60 I had KP. On the day we went to the ranges for full auto firing the M16's I had range detail, myself and 10 other guys loaded over 800,000 rounds into 30 round mags, argh...
haha---I had to load as well when we went to the range. Thank GOD for speed loaders. It also sucked when we had to carry the full mags in milk crates out to them as well--those fuckers were heavy as shit.

@krazzed101 если это "правильная" стрельба с пулемёта то давай проверим в реале кто кого раньше заметит и завалит. Любой военный скажет что это пулемёт дибильной армии, которые только и умеют расстреливать мирных жителей. В бою против реального и сильного противника этот пулемёт бесполезен. Ибо стрелка сидящего на жопе вижно очень далеко, в отличии от пулемётчика который лежит. А чё ты про наши фиьмы то скажеш?!

@krazzed101 в СССР и России всегда снимали вдумчивые фильмы, в которых режисёр поднимает проблемы общества, фильмы про войну показывают не то как 1 человек половину немецкой армии с пислотела завалил а всаимоотношение людей, как люди жили, что чувствовали о чём думали. А даже если наши снимают боевик то он куда более реалистичный и правдободобный чем американские выдумки. Посмотри фильм "9 рота", "Грозовые Ворота". Там практически со 100% реализмом выглядят взрывы и стрельба.

Люди на планете уже и так достаточно знают чтобы видеть где похоже на реальность а где выдумка. there is a T & E or (traversing and elevating mechanism) after the initial burst is fired you will more than likely be dead on on the next shot. This goes for all Heavy Class crew served weapons systems

Not everyone in the Army is going to be an infantryman so not everyone needs to be as proficient on the M2, unlike the Marines where a LARGE majority of them will be. Trust me, the infantrymen in the Army know how to shoot. Besides, YOU would be LUCKY if you could make it in the 101st or become a Ranger talking all that smack.

But what i don't understand, is why the M2 supposedly has noticable recoil when it is mounted on a jeep. Often, in videos, people complain of the high recoil, but shouldnt the recoil be transferred down into the vehicle? Or is it too big a round for that?

The mounting mechanism allows you to swivel the gun left/right and up/down quite a bit...so it's not bolted down like you think it would, otherwise you wouldn't be able to aim with it.
If you had arms big enough to shoulder an M2, you would see there's FAR more recoil when holding it than when its mounted on a humvee or configured for use on the ground.
It's just a big gun...big guns have big recoil.

@rpenri umm I don't know where you got the part about a LARGE majority of Marines using the M2 since the Army has a much much much larger combat arms force thus more of the Army would actually be using the Ma Deuce, a Marine cook, or quartermaster, or signal guy is still a POG and still not combat arms and won't be using a .50cal anymore then a cook, quartermaster, is signal guy in the Army. I DO agree that the kid talking crap isn't going anywhere and 101st all the way! AIR ASSAULT!!!

Marines are designed to be a fast reaction force. It stands to reason that MANY of them will be infantry or other combat oriented MOS. Yes, they've got cooks and admins and other crap...but the majority of their personnel are geared towards combat. The Army is, duh, an army. They're geared for long, drawn out campaigns...so they require many more of the support type (POG) MOS than the Marines.

I booted at Ft Jackson...on the day we went for the look at and how to's for the M60 I had KP. On the day we went to the ranges for full auto firing the M16's I had range detail, myself and 10 other guys loaded over 800,000 rounds into 30 round mags, argh...
