@mjohnson64064 Well, I didn't really disagree with you, as Steve Jablonsky sounds more like Jeremy Soule, but -and there, please forgive my bad english, I'm not good enough to deal with musical terms, I think. I never tried before, in fact- , but there's a lot of similitudes. Like, first, the rythme. For instance, this one & Black Hawk Down theme have the same slow and... unpulsated? rythme.
@mjohnson64064 But the most flagrant exemple I can find is with Da Vinci Code theme, or in a certain lesser way King Arthur theme. There's still this kind of leitmotiv melody, that I wouldn't be able to qualify in Shakespeare's language. Don't you think so ?
@mjohnson64064 Ridiculous statement. If you have any musical ear at all you'll recognise many similar traits to them.... it is the sound of the modern action movie that they have honed and shaped. They still are both excellent musicians in their own right but to say they are "totally different styles" is just not true!

Only works by SJ: The Island, Xformers and Xformers 2
"My Name is Lincoln" from Island is a copy of "Now We Are Free" from Gladiator.
"Soccent Attack" from Xformers copies "Molossus" from Batman Begins. The ostinato at the beginning of "Arrival to Earth" is similar to "Vespertilio", also from BB. Parts of "You're a Soldier Now" copy a theme from King Arthur (end of "All Of Them")
"Prime" from Xformers 2 also copies that theme from King Arthur.
I've compared them and I have to admit they have a lot of similarities. But I would say one is better than the other, both of them deserve to do those scores, but I get your point... where is the originality if they all start 'faking' each other.
I'm confused by your assertion. It's a known fact? There is no legitimate claim I can find that backs that claim up - and I certainly have never heard of this. Even if your claims are correct in saying he does not write the melody for some of his works then that may well be true. Composers are not charged with writing melodies, they compose melodies into completed works which is MUCH harder than writing out a regular melody. Yet, I have still seen nothing backing up your claims.
Case in point, Linkin Park wrote 2 of the melodies for Transformers 2. The whole Pirates of the Caribbean saga only has half a dozen melodies and they are all very simple, it's the way they are composed that is impressive. And I never faulted them for borrowing techniques of the past, I'm just saying that there's very little 'new' in these pieces, they just do them very well - both of them.
LOL You're either bad at trolling or HORRIBLE at lying. You won't find Zimmer's Range in 1 Movie (generally) because his music is responsive to the Tone of the movie. In reality, Zimmer's range is unparalleled: check "Chevaliers De Sangreal" vs "Gortoz A Ran - J'Attends" vs "You're so Cool." Zimmer might as well be Indie - but what's important to note is that his songs perfectly reflect the Tone of the scenes they are in.
people who work in his company as did previously steve jablonksy, he was a ghost writer for him, think about it, why would a composer have a company who he employs as writers when he supposedly is. It means he needs their talent
Let's be honest, MOST movie soundtracks these days are pretty lame and generic.
Jablonski made sure THIS one wouldn't be that. This is an outstanding music score with character and passion! My beloved Transformers held against THIS kind of talent.. excellent!

@mjohnson64064 part true
Hans Zimmer produced the soundtrack as well. Which is why you can hear a tiny pic of his sound. Other wise most of them are Steve's which are great.

Indeed, all of them - Badelt, Mancina, Rabin, and so on - share this style, which is what led to their popularity in the first place.

I'll agree and attest to the fact that Hans Zimmer is a better and more original composer than Jablonsky.
In the end, though, they are both just borrowing classical techniques and using them for commercial value - even if they do it well.
tzsjynx 2 years ago
you are absolutely wrong
because Hans Zimmer didn't write any of his pieces
its a known fact that he's a fraud
when is borrowing techniques a bad thing?
musical traits cannot be copy righted
only actual passages and it doesn't apply after 50 years
not all commercial pieces are copies get your facts straight
