First, I love that the outside of your slow cooker is as dirty and "well used" as mine! But what exactly is the "bacon" you used? It looked more like ham.
@rzaranko Australian Bacon is slightly different to what you guys call "bacon" - ours is closer to ham. It's usually served thicker and less crispy here. Feel free to use some diced ham instead ;)
I'm trying this right now. I know nothing about cooking, so... and a problem is i'm in China. I shopped for everything today but couldn't find the worcestershire sauce and I got not clue what beef stock is, so I just used water instead.. and the only beef they had was a little cooked. Hope this comes out alright
@kentoakowen Beef stock or Beef broth is flavoured water that is used for soups, sauces, stews etc. So if you use water instead, make sure to add spices like salt and pepper, herbs, seasoning, etc....Hope your dish worked iut well.
@Chazton1 yes it did! I found there's no need for beefstock. I threw in some spicey sauce, which was pretty good. It came out a little sweet. Just between me and you, and I guess everyone else on youtube... I've cooked it twice, and both times it gives me HORRIBLE gas. HAHA. Good thing I live alone.
@MellKerrigan I find that when you slow cook meat in this way, browning the meat tends to make the meat a little tougher. For this recipe, the meat is incredibly tender and melts in your mouth when not browned ;)
I did this recipe with one alteration: instead of tomato paste I used half a jar of leftover tomato pasta. Thank you for this recipe. It was easy and delicious
I'm cooking this now according to your recipe ingredients, except I quartered a 2 lb roast, and seared it, like I normally do when I make pot roast, cuz I usually make this to cook through the day when we're away (5-6 hrs high, or up to 10 hrs on low), and I use whole potatoes because they dissolve if cut up. Does cutting up meat and reducing time prevent veggies from being mush while meat can be tender? Seem I have to sacrifice tender meat or non-mushy vegs whenever I make pot roast. :(
Looks awesome, I'm going to give it a try. One question, is it corn flour or corn starch that you used? Just asking because sometimes here in America we use different terminology. Thanks!
I absolutely love your videos! I'm a single gal living alone and I don't know how to cook, so the one pot and slow cooker recipes really help me out a lot! you also have beautiful eyes. just saying. :)
Dude, I LOVE your recipes! You're my favorite youtube chef. Please, never stop what you're doing! I made this tonight and it was absolutely delicious.
Looks divine. I make something very similar to this, but I add a cup and a half ( less or more according to taste) of frozen peas in the last half hour of cooking time. It makes the dish pop visually and I just happen to love peas. Some fresh parsely would do the same. Thanks David. Another winning, easy recipe and the slow cooker does the work.:o)
@OnePotChefShow Alright. Thank you. I asked cause I don't have beef stock in my kitchen at the moment and I'm making this for my Aunt for her birthday even though it was yesterday. I bet she will love it, oh and the tomato paste can I use ketchup? And do I have to use the worchestershire sauce? Can I substitute it with something else?
@OnePotChefShow Hey mr one pot chef! Lovely recipe,I made it for my mum for mother's day she loved it and ask for more! P.S that red liquid from the beef is not really blood ,it's the red pigment from the beef which is rich in protein :) Cheers!
Everyone should have one of these... along with a good steamer, so much healthier, so delicious & so money saving when the calculation costs of energy & food prices are added up over a year of using it. They make delicious soups & casseroles due to the gentle slow cooking method & cheaper cuts of meat are ideal to be used in it and saves a lot of money on energy costs, when calculated over a week, month or year.
I need a slow cooker! lol. Quick cuestion, to make the sauce thicker can I use corn starch? I dont know if maybe what you call corn flour it's what we call corn starch, cause we use corn flour for many things but when it comes to making a sauce thicker we use the starch (not the same here =P hehe)
I tried it a couple of days ago, I noticed something, I used some more tomato and it turned out very tasty. I'm used to "seal" the meat before boilng it, so this is much more easy, and delicious too. Thank you.
OMG! After seeing this I went down the street and bought a slow cooker!! Ahaha, maing this tomorrow which I am really looking forward to! Keep up the good work. (loving your daily vlogs by the way.. look forward to them and laugh in every one!)
i am sooooo getting a slow cooker after watching this!!!! oh and the bowl that u had ur onions in looks identical to the one at my bf's place lol (altho he only has one cuz we are so clumpsy) lol
Wish we could have seen it plated up.....The dish looked thinner than I would like...Looks and sounds tasty though. How much will this thicken as it cools? Cheers
Well that was a more detailed (longer) introduction to your video, I thought.
And then I wondered how many "takes" it took to get it word perfect.
I would be stuffing up every sentence. The great thing with a beef casserole is that you can vary the recipe so many different ways. I would have added red wine, golden syrup and kidneys.
@pointeskatecybunny Meat is cooked to perfection, making it tender and succulent every time. It's also really convenient compared to slaving over a hot stove.
The beef casserole looks really good I am anxious to try it when winter comes about,to hot right now since we are in mid summer, you always make everything look easy!sweetone51
Cornflour... why didnt I think of that?? Great idea! I always remove the sauce at the end of cooking time and reduce it in a pan on the stove top. (which annoys me), not any more. Thanks for that tip!
yum. for extra flavor, you could dredge those beef bits in flour seasoned with salt and pepper, then sear them in a skillet with some hot oil... THEN toss them in your pot and oooooh my... what flavor that adds... (espesh if you would sear a little bacon with the beef....) oooh now I have to get the crockpot out...
@TZ2OurLittleDogToo All good tips - I usually do all of that when making a casserole, I just wanted to present an easy version. Now I'm hungry again LOL!!!

Super video, but i have a query...
I always thought the chunky veggies had to be on the bottom 'layer' and the meat on the top? As the veg takes longer than the meat.
In the vid, you mix it up. Does it still cook evenly?
Thanks
