  • sketchup is like the ms paint of 3d moddeling. so many redundant polys.

  • @JagermeisterDetox I started my design hobby with MS Paint actually, back when I drew things simply when I was bored out of my mind. Then a fella at my favorite (back then) coffee house (76 Coffee: R.I.P.) told me about SketchUp. I'm saving for SoftWorks now, and will be going to college for architecture this Autumn. I know what you mean about SketchUp, but it is wonderfully free for us amatures and hobbyists in the field. What's your favorite design software? and do you have any other ideas?

  • @wendt152 I use piece of software called 3Ds Max. It's a fantastic low poly and high poly modeller.

  • @JagermeisterDetox Cool, I'll check that out. Thank you

  • @JagermeisterDetox Ah. $3,495 and it's AutoDesk (One of the best in the world, no doubt). Yes, a bit out of my price range and I am no pirate, lol. Perhaps someday once I start my personal design contractor experiment :)

  • @wendt152 You can actually download 3DS Max from the autodesk website for free and 100% legal. If you're a Student !

  • @GoldenBlockGaming Thank you very much. I found out today that hypercam free edition stinks for what I need to use it for. This looks much more promising, I'll get right on it. :)

  • sick

  • good job and thanks for sharing but doesnt need a bulb ?

  • @buraksezer80 what do you mean?

  • @wendt152 im talking about bulb.i think you don't know what does bulb mean.bulb or bulbous bow :

A bulbous bow is a protruding bulb at the bow (or front) of a ship just below the waterline. The bulb modifies the way the water flows around the hull, reducing drag and thus increasing speed, range, fuel efficiency, and stability. Large ships with bulbous bows generally have a twelve to fifteen percent better fuel efficiency than similar vessels without them.

    no problem,just an advice...

  • @buraksezer80 yes it does. But this is a very old model and I drew it from reference pictures. In future models I will be sure too add the bulb. Thank you for educating me :)

  • do a timelapse screencapture next time son. good work though.

  • @Alice8000 Neat idea. What program do you recommend for that?

  • @wendt152 Hypercam, then put it in windows movie maker and speed it up.

  • @wendt152 camtasia 7

  • @wendt152 For timelapse, get CamStudio or something similar, set it up to record at a fairly low framerate (like 1-5) then use an editing software to speed up the video. It'll give you a nice timelapse without eating your diskspace.

  • nice upload it on google :p

  • You should totally get someone to render your models, it would be killer to see them realistically!

  • looks like a royal caribbean boat

  • I would like to know your real name, I hope you know 3d warehouse link, modelers around the world submitted/stored their models in 3dwarehouse. Now, you have two options to add it to 3dwarehouse, 1st - just upload the model to 3dwarehouse repository for others to see it and 2nd - you can upload it to include it in G-earth as a real model with details of its actual position

  • @dlocalhost Well, I'll give ya this for now: Go to Google 3D Warehouse and in the search window type "m.wendt" . That should suffice for now although keep in mind I have not posted my most (in my opinion) detailed or promising models there. have a nice day

  • hi @wendt152 you have a great collection in warehouse, if any of those model has real existence then I suggest you should include them in google earth, you can get further help in warehouse forum.

    Thanks

  • Very nice :D I don't model yachts in sketchup, I don't have the skills to do that. I design houses and buildings. Please have a look at my video's and tell me what you think!

  • OMG!

Can you upload this model in 3dware house for GE 3d layer,

Is it satisfying the criteria for 3dlayer, If you suppose to upload it, will they accept it, means is it below 10mb and is it within the maximum polygons allowed? Asking so that world can see your work..

  • @dlocalhost I will look into this. Where do you suppose I should start... aka do you mean to place it in a lake or ocean somewhere in google earth or rather some other concept I am not yet aware of (I haven't had internet for about 3 months)?

  • gay

  • @Zro8x ?? ad lib (as i know it) is when (for example) films have no real script, the script is just made up on the spot... suggesting that the maker of the video doesn't draw from measurements... but by what looks right... thats my best guess anyway.. :)

  • @frackcha precisely. Thank you, although nowadays (i drew this quite a while ago) I do use measurements and my models are quite a bit more complex with full interiors, light fixtures, and such. I also am now delving into the wide world of rendering...

  • @wendt152 I am sorry to hear that! If you can ever continue, you should without a doubt, you clearly have a talent in this department!!

I would love to see some of your new work, it sounds great!

BTW where did you take inspiration from for the design of this boat? It looks rather similar to a Benetti, check out a yacht named Andreas L, its a friend of my fathers who owns it for mainly chartering purposes so they have a great website with pictures and virtual tour. Beautiful yacht.

  • Incredible! This is what i'm looking to do for a living, but the interior side of things in super yachts. Going into my third year of uni then hopefully off to miami to get into a specialist course. Full thumbs, excellent design!

  • @Welcome2theGDlife Thank you. I would love to be further along in my education of such things, but life has gotten in the way in the past few years for me, so full thumbs back at ya for pursuing your dreams! I wish you the best.

  • what is this sketchup? can i really build from it?

  • man thats not a yacht!thats more like cruise ship.what cind of verssion are you using of sketchup?how do you do that really.

  • @phases4506 Well, no: this does still very much classify as a yacht, although it could be described as a luxury yacht if you want. However, I am actually working on a small cruise ship, although that project is currently shelved due to a couple payed gigs that arose in the past few months. I'll post pics of that too a bit later.

Secondly, the sketchup version I prefer is 7, and as for how to... all I can really say is practice: 3 years of practice.

  • @wendt152 actually to get technical it isnt a yacht at all it is a private luxury vessel a yacht is a sailboat just to get all technical

  • @wendt152 are you ms.Bucket?

  • How do you add windows and doors???

  • really? I'm not knockin you I'm just a bit curious... Okay, there are many ways to add doors and windows. In the case of this yacht here I still hadn't built a personal warehouse of such components, so I drew them on and then copy/paste/rotated as I needed. There's also a fantastic website specifically for sharing components at called "3D Warehouse"(type in Google search) which is good if you like using other people's stuff, and there are plenty of doors and windows to choose from.

  • nice

  • nice, check out some of my boats at my channel :D

  • No blueprints, just one image. I'll be getting into architecture once I save up enough money for college again. I will definitely check out your videos, I love seeing what other people have done! Thank you for your comments.

  • that is rally cool! please look at my videos

  • you know this doesn't look like you only used reference images but seems like you used blueprints. great job, check out my only video, its about how to make a wheel in sketchup.

  • basically, like playing music "ad lib," where you don't read music to imitate another's performance, here you would not have any dimensions of a project/ just some pictures, and sight up the sizes and shapes to your own interpretation.

With this yacht, I only had one picture that I found online of a 200ft yacht and I re sized everything to a 110ft yacht. A lot of people use "ad lib" tactics to make Google Earth models.

  • what is Adlib sketchup ?

    never heard of that
