even if SOME of them are ASSEMBLED in mexico it makes NO difference.
The real purchase money goes into paying for the parts and engineering, which, ESPECIALLY for diesels, goes almost %90 back to hard working americans. But ONLY for American based companies.
Tundra is assembled in texas but only TEN PERCENT of the purchase price goes to Americans.
Again, I'm not arguing the efficiency of a diesel. They are very efficient and can be made better, but at the price of a diesel truck (38k plus) if you're not towing, what's the point. That's all I'm trying to get across.
yes and no. All the computer and emissions crap keeps them clean, and also lets them make 600hp or more with no smoke. So they have emissions BS, so what, point is a diesel is SUPERIOR to a gas engine.
I like diesels, but with prices going past 4 bucks a gallon, I'm thinking they're not so superior. Besides, comparing mpg/hp to a gasser is apples to oranges, diesel produces more btu's than gas. But, towing a trailer, diesel all the way.
true, diesel fuel costs more but that $4 will take you 2x as far as opposed to a gas engine. And the more power you add to a diesel, the more efficient it becomes. A 600hp diesel will still get 17-19mpg all day long. A gas engine would get 8-10, if your lucky.
I hope you're actually measuring mileage and not going by the trip computer the dodges have. I've tested three different dodges, all of them say they're getting 16-19 towing when in reality they're getting 10-13. Anyway, throw a couple turbos on a gasser. It's been done in vettes and vipers, just because nobody's done it in a truck doesn't mean it wouldn't work. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissin' diesels but for the overall cost, like I said before, if I'm not towing a trailer I'm going gas
Yes, I have testing using the hand method. But the general public thinks that diesels are only for towing, are slow, and get terrible fuel economy. NOT TRUE! I can provide you names of over 100 diesel drivers who dont tow a thing, get over 20mpg, and have well over 500hp on their daily driven trucks. Diesel engines are more efficient than hybrids, and that is a proven fact. NO gas engine can get a 8000lb vehicle to get 20mpg. Go ahead and add a turbo to a gas engine, fuel economy suffers.
I'm not arguing that for a second, but why would you buy an 8000 lb vehicle if you're not going to tow? I have an '01 sonoma that weighs in at 4000 lbs and gets 18 to 19 mpg at 75mph. This is without any mods and I can build this little 4.3 to get more. For the record, I hate hybrids. I also know of a viper with a roe supercharger that got 20+ mpg going from Austin to Houston and put 720+ hp to the ground. Not 8000 lbs, but another engine people think can't get any kind of decent mpg.
Can't answer for everyone but the ones I know are getting diesel trucks for the room for their families, able to get around in the snow, or a whole rack of other reasons. I myself will be buying a dually to advertise my business and will be towing a 30 foot trailer as well. BUT, I will not be towing everyday. And to know I can run 11 second quarter mile times, tow 30k pounds AND get 20+ mpg makes me never want a gas again.
i've got a 99 silverado with the 5.3L v8 with a cat back exhaust and i get like 20 mpg but i would agree with u i know some diesel truck owners that are getting 30+ mpgs with just a computer chip upgread and an exhaust and they make over 400 horses
both of you morons are uneducated. It made 280hp at the TIRES. You lose power from the motor to the tires from drivetrain loss. It takes power to turn a transmission, driveshaft, gears, axle tubes. It lost 70hp, thats pretty average. Point is, it gained 100hp from 5 minutes work.
the new 6.7 is the best diesel out. btw the dodge has the best tranny, better then the allison, and nice interior, axles, suspenion. nothin better then a dodge mega cab
i have a quadcab 04 5.9 and new megacab 6.7 laramie, ther the best, unbeliveable, nothin better than a truyck , nuthin better than a diesel, and nuthing better then a dodge and cummins
yea its 350hp and 650 t. but the i6 has most torque and naturally balanced motor making it far superior regardless of hp or torque. they didnt floor ir
If you had any brains in your head when they showed the engine it is 100% 6.7 If you couldnt tell the diff between 6.7 and 5.9 you dont have the right to say anything about a diesel truck. As for not buying one your stupid for not.I allready strait piped mine have stacked chips on it yes egde juice and water methonel with a couple other mods
Got me a 6.7 the other day. You should see the huge ass baffle they had stuffed in the intake, needless to say that thing is gone, and I can hear the turbo and engine a little better now... Now if only i could get rid of this terrible terrible exhaust.
I have an '06 common rail Cummins 5.9 it is the greatest engine ever created.
These new "post emmission" engines are total and complete crap. You will cry your eyes out and rue the day you bought one of these. You will curse the salesman and cry like a b*tch. They are designed to burn clean first. Your mileage will s*ck. They have all kinds of new emmisions controls. Buy a common rail 5.9 or save your money and go gas like a f*ggot.
.....as of right now there is allready a few companies that are planning to release their "solution" to the emissions crap on the new engines....so far they have tested it out on a couple new trucks and they surpass the 5.9 without any problem (even through the new engine smokes the 5.9 from the factory and pulls much better)....so it is only a matter of weeks before you start seeing 6.7 CTD owners smoking your ass like a little bitch....even though they allready smoke the 5.9 CTDs.
That's 280 measured at the wheels, pal. Factory numbers are measured at the flywheel. Ergo, that 12V puts out like 260 or so at the wheels, unless of course you're running 50+lbs of boost...
So they built a new engine that puts out less power than their older ones?My mom has an 05 dually 4X4 6 speed that puts out around 325 to 350...Whats up with the stock 280?
do some research....they put out more power.....they are 350hp and 650 foot lbs of torque. And you don't have to lie, we all know that your mom drives a van.
So just ATS, Edge and Bully Dog will have products? I think the market is a lot bigger than that man. Just about everybody is going to tap the 6.7 market not just those three.
yep.. it's from the flywheel. Loosing about 15% of the overall output through the drivetrain puts the numbers right back to factory claims. The 6.7 is going to be a beast when Edge, Bully Dog & ATS get their chips and addons aligned.
I'm picking up my 6.7 Patriout Blue Quad Cab Short Bed this coming week!!! I'll get some vids up and give some good feedback about the overall experience when compared to the 5.9.
The aftermarket companys will probably have a hard time uping the power on the 2010 emmission equiped diesels. With the multiple particulate filters the soot created by the extra power would clog these items or the exta fuel would get caught in the urea injection filter and cause the truck to shoot flames from the exhaust
understandable, but when was the last time a performance tuning company decided to back away from a huge market? Just about every vehicle in the market has performance goodies regardless of the emmissions junk. I'm confident that ATS, Edge & BullyDog will have these puppies humming in no time... Just about when my breakin will be done. :-)
Flames out the exhaust? One less mod I'll need to make.
Maybe on a Ford 6.4, but not this engine....the Ford is already shooting flames without being modded. They will figure out a way to bypass the emissions so they systems can be removed.
there are some people with the new dmaxs who have just taken it all off and strait piped it and it has been working pretty good, computer never thinks the dpf is dirty so it never regens!
I might be wrong but isn't it because that rated stock horsepower is from the flywheel of the engine and not the rwhp? So when its transfered to the wheels some hp is lost. Someone please correct me if im wrong.
Actually the new 6.7 and 6.4 are both pushin 350/650.(or said to be) The Dodge diesels without the normal bed that are made for a flatbed, or utility boxes are tuned down to 305 but the normal box trucks are rated at 350 hp. I think Chevy even upped the hp on theres to like 365.
It's only putting out 280 hp compared to the 325 to 350 rating because the 325 to 350 was measured at the crank instead of the wheels, plus it takes 5 to 10 thousand miles to break in these trucks.
Straightpiping a DPF diesel pickup is like punching David Suzuki in the face, but who really gives a fuck? I'd much prefer more engine specs and fuel efficiency over a fucking filter on my truck.
