  • It's Andrei Tarkovsky.

Not Andrew Tarchovski as you write in your intro.

Andrei Tarkovsky was one of the greatest filmmakers ever. You should check out Zerkalo (The Mirror). Pure visual poetry. Unparalleled.

  • @OneSummerSky And the film Runaway Train (1985) was directed by Andrey Konchalovskiy....

I'm not sure who you are referring to?

  • @OneSummerSky

    Me neither

  • @marquisdejolie haha! :)

  • @OneSummerSky

    I will!!

  • @marquisdejolie Zerkalo/The Mirror really is an amazing movie!

Additionally, more on the fringe of the Soviet society, are the poems by Boris Ryzhy. There is a documentary about him on Youtube, where he reads his poems. It is dark, but very impressive, also with the video images.

  • @marquisdejolie Some impressive poems on Youtube by Boris Ryzhy are:

    1) "poem by the Russian contemporary poet Boris Ryzhy"

    2) "poem by Boris Ryzhy There in that flat lived ex-convicts"

    3) "Showmegypsywoman"

  • Is it suppose to be mockery or are you dead serious?

Well... wait few more years. You will know everything about hopelessness and grieving.

  • I'm getting there.

  • If you're prepared mentally and physically it's not going to be as bad.

  • @nez2008

    Thanks :)

  • I think when Americans say such things they only once again prove that the general opinion about them as not very clever nation is true and fair...you're good when it comes to money making and business-running, but other than that you see very little around you...life is much greater than budgets, and property..and laugh and insincere smiles...and chips and hamburgers with cola etc...so in your place I wouldn't be so confident that I can teach other people how to live...

  • @AquaLelia Very thoughtful.

  • I think America with its love to actions rather than inner development and with its understanding of things through prism of money and property could be the hands and legs of the world, and Russia with its inclination to thoughtfulness and kind of half-religious perception of life could be the heart and soul of this world.

  • you should come to Russia, check everything up for yourself !!!!!!!!1

  • @Vin4enco Been there.

  • so, how did you like it?

  • NIce foootage, like 1910s or what ?Amazing

  • Yeah, I think its from the great San Fran fire.

  • im proud to be mexican

  • : )

  • this is dumb, americans got no culture, no history, only the brainwashing that your leaders are giving you, thats where that hopeless optimism is coming from obviously, and by the way...try watching other russian movies, there are plenty with humor and optimism, you cant judge a nation, by one VERY old film....короче слей дерьмо из бошки!!!

  • Okay. I guess the Russians I knew personally in L.A. were just oddballs.

  • were they real Russians? or some Ukranians, Kazahs, Armenians, Lithuanians or some other people that americans usually mistake us for??? and trust me no normal Russian would live in America. and when talking about "oddballs", there are A LOT of those among americans, and when you think about it probably every nation have them!!!

  • Said they were....but they might've been Georgians.

  • well your speaking english so that doesnt make sense

  • могу и по русски говорить если тебе от этого легче......

  • oi... andrew tarkovski? dude its andrei your apprasal is meaningless tarkovsky is a poet. he had a vision and influences countless film makers. he had depth. sorry if all films aren't cheesy action movies life is a bit more complex

peel away the layers and look deeper. tarkovsky looked deeper than most. you come off as a winey kid who just didn't get it. well it wasn't for you to get. it was a peice of art.

art is an expression of an artist not for easy consumption.

    chew on that.

  • I am a sick old man with too few teeth to chew. I'm tired. You take over. All I want to do now is die in peace.

  • Вообще о чем видео ?

  • WOW! This is one of your best yet... Russians maybe love their children too...

  • Thanks!

  • Oh, now...

Mr. Jarvis/Jolie/Blonde... This ain't your FIRST vid!

    GAH!

Try not to think about Russian pink elephants!

  • No, I've deleted about 200 of my stinkiest old videos, Mr. Mast. I still have 808 to choose from, though.

    :)

  • Funny, this video came to me just as the crazy Russian lady down the hall started throwing a fit. A few of us neighbors went to try to help her. For some reason all the burners on her stove were on. She's in a wheelchair and doesn't speak English. We called security.

  • Check for bodies in the closet.

  • This is really excellent.

  • Thanks! Tell your friends. I'll make more.

    :)

  • at least Russian people managed to survive after the many years of warfare!

  • They've survived more than war!

  • The Ruskies must watch a lot of Bergman.

  • Apparently

  • Russians are a people of action, they may be depressed, but they have one of the highest suicide rates.

  • That's action, true enough. Art films in general are kind of depressing, though. Add Russian existentialism and you've got depression squared.

    :)

  • I love your stuff. Favorited.

  • Thanks! I'll make more.

    :)

  • BTW, that's me at 2:34 in this video.

    :)

  • mother russia loves her children but she seems to lay a heavy guilt-trip on them

  • She does.

  • Five Stars Man!

  • Thanks!

  • Life noir. On some days I reckon God thinks my existence in Russian then.

  • Well said.

    :)

  • Очень хорошо!

  • As part of my quest to learn to speak Russian, I've watched several Russian films and some of them are quite good and funny! But then I tend to seek out the funnier movies!

  • Have you seen the one where the whole Russian movie was shot in one looooong 90-minute take? One take! No editing! It was shot in the big imperial museum.

  • Yeah, I think that's the one in some art museum. I think it was called "The Russian Ark" or something like that... I really did not like that movie much at all! My favorite light comedy is called "Vovochka."

  • I'll check it out.

    :)

  • The old joke about a Russian novel "everyone dies in the end" applys. It's a difference in basic philosophy.

    Good stuff Maynard !

  • Everyone dies in the end?

    Hahaha! Sounds Bolshevik to me!

    :)

  • or Dostoevsky !

  • Nice:)

  • Thanks

    :)

  • Nice... yeah.

  • Did you like the juxtaposition of musical tone with metaphor?

  • No, I liked the transcendence of the incidental inference and the obtuse conjecture.

  • That'll work. We're famous for our obtuse conjecture here in east Texas.

    :)

  • The optimism :-)

  • I like dark optimism

    :)

  • new-vo beat

  • thanks

  • Ir really helps put things into perspective, and appreciate what you have. Whatever happens, happens.

  • Ahyup. It does.

    :)
