Bring back the GT-Rs in full Super GT spec (and maybe a few HSV-010s too) and wipe the floor with the V8SC. They all have RWD V8 engines, so it should be pretty interesting to see. DTM can come too.
But, too bad it'll never happen (after all, it would be a tremendous shame to have our signature automotive sport lose out to the rest of the world).
@samartz well they didnt back in the day! the only car that gave them a run for the money was the ford sierra rs500 2L 4cyl turbo,dick johnsons in qualifying trim it made 680hp, a modern v8 supercar cant do that. i love v8s but at the end of the day you can make a turbo engine more powerful than a n/a v8.a twin turbo v8 though would be very nice.

Initially turbo cars only had a 1.3 weight multiplier formula, later came out to 1.7 but even then the poor old v8s had to lug more than 200kg of weight than the turbo cars. Bizzare "interpretations" of the rules also saw fitting of non standard injection and management systems and even different turbo impellers on the non naturally aspirated cars whereas the dinsoaurs were forced to run standard carbys/injection.
@samartz - Didn't in '92. That Skyline GTR won the race. The red flag was hung out just as that final collision occured, and the result was taken from the lap just completed, when the Skyline was leading.

@Souljastyle They did kick arse, but the rules were very favorable for turbo cars. BTW Until the GTR came along all previous versions of the Skyline had its arse well and truly kicked at Bathurst. Altho some will say hey they came second in 87 really they just played the percentages better than the rest. 86 they came third with their better car destroying tyres and both slower than the top 3 v8s but 88 was a disaster for them both out before lap 10 and well off the pace of the Sierras
I'd have to say it was more entertaining when they allowed a variety of cars to race in the great race. The BMW's, Nissans, Ford Cosworths all gave the V8's a good nudge, and made the drivers work harder in passing all the slower cars causing more mayhem. Bring back the wellington Waterfront race!!!

@MsFarQ2 - from what I read, Lowndes was the victim of a hostile team boss, who kept expecting him to adapt to the car's settings, instead of adapting the car to Lowndes' driving style. Probably Lowndes was not this boss's choice for driver, and was expected to be some kind of wunderkind.

I believe it still holds the record for fastest total race time. The track has changed a little since then though. The effect this has on times Im not sure.
number 2, the VN SS Group A would go up to 255km/h in 5th gear with still another gear to go, which goes to proves it was one of the worlds quickest 4 door cars at the time, in porsche territory!!!
there maybe a possibility that the skyline will return to bathurst, but rest assured, if it would return, C.A.M.S would bring measures in to have the skyline crippled to make it slower. that way it wouldn't be as quick. also, because Holden and ford have invested so much into the current system, i just don't believe it will ever happen. it might, but i don't think it will happen.

Its a well known Fact that the technology that went into theses race monsters were years ahead of what any company could produce. Hence why it also dominated the JTC Chapionship as well. GTR still has the Best time over barthurst and still will for years to come.. It was the Atessa system that won the car.. acesneeks the problem is that skylines cant make the same power without turbo's in most peoples opinion if a car cant push it naturally aspirated it shouldnt be there, turbos along with superchargers are what we call fake horsepower if the V8's started using superchargers and nos it would then be the skyline fans complaining thats the same thing skylines are doing with turbos, the V8's have real horsepower the engine creates it without accessories

There is one distinct difference in that video. The GTR had a busted front wheel, yet it still drove around half the track heading towards the pits... then on conrod straight there was a couple of commodores with similar if not less damage and they were immobilised. pull your head out of you arse and realise that these cars were a pinnacle or motor engineering and the fact that rules had to be changed to satisfy the whinging dickheads just like you because you simply could not keep up..... loser
when a car has 4WD, twin turbos, and capable of putting out about 120bhp more than the commodores, you can see why commodores were slower. C.A.M.S though the skyline could be slowed by simply puuting ballast into it, when clearly, it didn't work. and all you assholes are doing is reminding us of the shitfull days when ATCC was dominated by cars that weren't even australian. if you're gonna race cars that are all but australian in the ATCC, you may as well re-name the category. its just bullshit.
look at almost every touring car championship around the world, there are overseas makes in the series because they are part of the market of that country. Japan has ferraris in the GT500.... last time I checked it was Italian made. England has Nissans, aswell, they are Japanese, America has European exotics in their Pan-America Series aswell, its not Australia solely... its what competition is about. Think of what Holden COULD have achieved if it took up the challenge and built a car better.

The fastest laps on bathurst other than a v8 was a GT Lambourghini gallardo and a Porche GT3..both over 2.10sec
Taxi's best time is 2:06:8. 'yobbos' would rather see v8 rwd's kicking out their tails then 4wd's doing perfect laps with occasional understeer.

Couple of things to mention here, Holden didnt steal the RB30, and they also modified it (which lead to head cracking on the cam line) and where is this so called "claim to fame" to do with RB30's? They were not an option for the Walky or SS. Blaizemb is english your second language? I was watching a pre-Bathurst program the other day... turns out Richards would have pitted for wets and probably lost the race had Crompton not been in the pits already!
Certainly one of the most dramatic Bathurst races of the past 25 years, sadly with Denny's passing as well. :(

there maybe a possibility that the skyline will return to bathurst, but rest assured, if it would return, C.A.M.S would bring measures in to have the skyline crippled to make it slower. that way it wouldn't be as quick. also, because Holden and ford have invested so much into the current system, i just don't believe it will ever happen. it might, but i don't think it will happen.

acesneeks the problem is that skylines cant make the same power without turbo's in most peoples opinion if a car cant push it naturally aspirated it shouldnt be there, turbos along with superchargers are what we call fake horsepower if the V8's started using superchargers and nos it would then be the skyline fans complaining thats the same thing skylines are doing with turbos, the V8's have real horsepower the engine creates it without accessories

There is one distinct difference in that video. The GTR had a busted front wheel, yet it still drove around half the track heading towards the pits... then on conrod straight there was a couple of commodores with similar if not less damage and they were immobilised. pull your head out of you arse and realise that these cars were a pinnacle or motor engineering and the fact that rules had to be changed to satisfy the whinging dickheads just like you because you simply could not keep up..... loser

when a car has 4WD, twin turbos, and capable of putting out about 120bhp more than the commodores, you can see why commodores were slower. C.A.M.S though the skyline could be slowed by simply puuting ballast into it, when clearly, it didn't work. and all you assholes are doing is reminding us of the shitfull days when ATCC was dominated by cars that weren't even australian. if you're gonna race cars that are all but australian in the ATCC, you may as well re-name the category. its just bullshit.

look at almost every touring car championship around the world, there are overseas makes in the series because they are part of the market of that country. Japan has ferraris in the GT500.... last time I checked it was Italian made. England has Nissans, aswell, they are Japanese, America has European exotics in their Pan-America Series aswell, its not Australia solely... its what competition is about. Think of what Holden COULD have achieved if it took up the challenge and built a car better.

yea but where in australia can you use that power off a track, no where realy, that road in northen territory has a speed limit of 110 now. If we had an autobahn in australia, no problems. I personaly dont have anything against the Clubsports, just the fuel consumpsion and fuel costs these days. Skyline arnt afficient cars either, but drinkless.I Just a ricer kind a guy, I dont know much about the V8's, just all my knowledge is on the RB's and SR's and the CA's and other popular jap engines.

Not so; I have a Wheels Magazine article directly comparing the Gibson GTR against HRT VN GRP A SS at Bathurst; The GTR also produced more power and was superior in all area's of performance as well as its 4wd advantage;
