Tregardock ...dig the 1950s, 60s bobbing rock rhythms blend into progressive rock, the chanting, the layers of rich orchestra: beauty of instruments, voices -- Motown and other influences, you can hear it, feel it, love it -- ... in waiting awfulness appear, like journalism full of hate-- that sense, that awareness is an epic Byron-like poetic transformation; this song, as a whole, is a jewel of the culture -- splendid vocal control: oh, oh, oh... Tre-ee-aee- gara-dock ... ah, ah, ah
awe beyond awe, in the vein of Donovan's early obscure songs, yet pointedly of the Justin Renaissance Romantic Byron, sans the Gaelic folk of the jewels of early Donovan; yet, ode of epic Celtic, cryptic, mysterious, full of wonder awe and the like -- oooh, treasure and it doth rock prog unto us in our eareth it hath bloomed the flower, earth to seed to evermore
Man!! I so love this song!! What an amazing song indeed!! And I love the video here. I know it is not to this song but man, I so love Justin here!! He is just gorgeous in every aspect!! What a truly talented man with so much beauty and a pure gentleman. You just cant help but love him!! He just draws you in!! Beautiful and phenomenal indeed!! :)) <3
Justin Hayward has a great voice, but I can't say I like most of his tunes. This one didn't click for me. Give me somthing less upbeat by this guy and I usually like it. "Nights in White Satin" is probably my fav by him, my other is "Somthing Evil, Somthing Dangerous" - a tune that's almost impossible to find. His Darker tunes are the ones I like and his voice seems to come out more on those slow ominous tunes. Justin Hayward and The Moody Blues has always been hit or miss for me...mostly miss.
Everything up til 1:52 was A lip synced performance of "Nights in White Satin" (I believe it was a television appearance), Then at 1:52 was from their song "Never Comes the Day", at 2:20, was from a live performance of "Gypsy", at 2:52 til the end was from "Never Comes the Day" again
Once again, Taranberk comes thru with another obscure Justin Hayward rarity!!! Thanks for sharing for all to share!! How about a hand for Taranberk??? Who is with me???
WoW! Justin's rarely ever played his guitar like he does on this song. He sounds influenced by Dave Gilmour here. The song is true Moody Blues. But, the instrumentals take on the quality of doom most often expressed by the Floyd. Great stuff!
thanks taranberk for this vidio and song. this was my first time hearing it. i really love this song. shows how versatile the moodys are. they can sing anything well.. anyyone notice that the much younger justin looked different in that he had a saddened look to his face or is it just my imagination. looks melancholy to me
Thank you all for sharing both videos from the past and for the beautiful song. This one is new to me. I always like the genre type of musical genius of your groop and the romantics of the knights era. Love in Christ, Rick.
Lyrics spread over 4 posts Tregardock A mist that from the moor arose In sea fog wraps Port Isaac Bay The moan of warning from Trevose Makes grimmer this October day Tre-e-e-gardock, tre-e-e-gardock, tregardock Only the shore and cliffs are clear Gigantic slithering shells of slate In waiting awfulness appear Like journalism full of hate
Tre-e-e-gardock, tre-e-e-gardock, tregardock I watch it crisp into its height And flap exhausted on the beach The long surf menacing and white Hissing as far as it can reach O-o-oh, o-o-oh, o-o-oh, o-o-oh The dunlin do not move each bird Is stationary on the sand As if a spirit in it heard The final end of sea and land O-o-oh, o-o-oh, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
Thanks for posting this. I really thought I'd seen and heard everything I could with the moodies. How can I find this album by Mike Read I'd love to have it. Thanks again for posting.
The song is not by the Moody Blues. It's a Justin Hayward solo. There isn't a video for it. It's from a concept album and was not released as a single. The video used is a compilation of Moody Blues performances.
Tregardock is a place in cornwall, on the north shore where its wild steep cliffs and very very beautiful. This song was actually a poem written by a guy named Betjamin, there was a series in the Uk called Betjamins Britain and it was about his poems which were all based on UK places and cultural.
Tregardock was almost obliterated by flood decades ago much like Boscastle, also in Cornwall, a few years ago. This poem by John Betjeman refers to that.
The track is from a 1990 album by Mike Read who set the poetry of Betjeman to music. This is my favourite track - sll fits ... lyric, melody, atmosphere, sentiment and last, but by absolutely no means least, that beautiful haunting voice - but they released my second favourite track, 'Myfanwy' by David Essex, as a single.
Tregardock is a coastal settlement and beach in north Cornwall, United Kingdom. It is situated between Trebarwith Strand and Port Gaverne
Tregardock was the location of a World War II aerial bombing and gunnery range at Treligga aerodrome.
The small beach is accessed by climbing down the cliffs near the settlement of Tregardock.
Tregardock is a stunning beach that is best accessed has the tide recedes. Renowned locally for it's superior surf and secluded location.

Why would you post this great song to videos that are of the Moody Blues singing OTHER songs? I don't quite understand that.

I am a local to the village of Treligga just a stones throw from Tregardock. I used to spend all my spare time there at the beach when not at school.
I love the song it describes Tregardock well.

On the sweet path a bramble leaf
Stands motionless and wet with dew
The grass bends down the bracken's brown
The grey-green g orse al one is new
O-o-oh, o-o-oh, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
Cautious my sliding footsteps go
To quarried rock and dripping cave
The ocean leaden still below
Has hardly strength to lift a wave

And I on my volcano edge
Exposed to ridicule and hate
Still do not dare to leap the ledge
And smash to pieces on the slate
Tre-e-e-gardock, tre-e-e-gardock, tregardock
A mist that from the moor arose
In sea fog wraps Port Isaac Bay
The moan of warning from Trevose
Makes grimmer this October day

I never heard this song before. Makes me think that Justin could have teamed up with Gordon Lightfoot in addition to the Moody Blues. Great video!
