That natural J is the best in the mix here. Those clear yet gritty mids sound great. I notice that the Ric has the quality of both the J and P. Gritty mids, yet rich lows. I personally own a J and a Ric.
Wow, great video comparison. Well done. Have to say I was surprised by the Ric. Very versatile, but I have to give it to the.....ding, ding, ding...STINGRAY!
@TheBlueBandYTAccount I've tried to like P basses, but I just cant find a tone I like. They are to boomy and mid scooped. They sound ok with flats though.
Liked p-bass, white j-bass and rickenbacker in the mix. P-bass has a roar, j-bass sounds with a vintage warmth and body and Rickenbacker has a smooth nice tone. The other sound well but stick out from this mix.
So, Gooood man!! In my ears do the natural Fender P the best. And the one i dislike (sorry), was that 5-string music man :-S. Heck of a nice job. Thanx Jocke/Sweden
Helluva an arsenal you have there...nice playing too.
I have a couple of P basses, Jazz basses, and one Stingray, and I always find that the P bass sounds he the least pleasant on it's own, but the best when playing along to a song. That white jazz with the flats also had a very nice syrup-y tone, but with a hint more definition than the P bass.
Very nice mix of crunchy aggression, fatness, and clarity in the P-bass, Stingray, and Rickenbacker.
Going a bit off topic (but not really), I think having a P-J combo bass and a Stingray bass is a nice setup for me. Having a P-J combo (P-bass with a Jazz bridge pickup) is a decent compromise between Jazz & Precision. Having a jazz bridge pickup on a P-bass is nice for getting a fatter sound, or even a tighter sound, but you can always silence it when you just want a P-bass sound.
btw, did you have a foam mute under the bridge cover on the 1st one, or was it just from playing close to the bridge? You kind of had a jamerson/p bass sound going on that jazz bass, nice.
String choice seams to make a difference too. Thanks for the video as I want to try out some new strings and was good he hear the sound you were getting
Really a helpful video man. You're showing the whole characteristics of the basses. They all sound cool and they are all needed for different musical tastes. I wish I would have all of them :) and I really like the video...
dobra, ale to jak pizgają te stalówki po flatach jest nie do zniesienia :) jakbyś au general zrobił porównanie każdego jeden po drugim flaty/roundy. ale nie ma sensu, skoro w większości filmów robisz takie.
The bass line is very similar to Bigmouth Strikes Again by Smiths, haven't you noticed?

Also, for your song, the P and the Stingray sound the best... and the natural J actually sounds the least fitting

All a bass player really needs is a Jazz and a Sting Ray.

@Mightypaul All a bass player really need is a P-bass (preferably a deluxe version), a Stingray and a Fretless jazz.

Ric wins at 1:20 thats THE sound for me, 1:50s good too, but I can get a Gibson or Epi EB-0 to cover that kind of sound

Hard to judge a p bass without flats, not much of a fan of rounds. I think the first jazz/ w/ flats sounds great.
