After he saved Trunks and tried to escape, the Androids bombarded the area 2:45 - 2:55, both Gohan and Trunks took alot of damage but Gohan only had 1 sensu bean left which Gohan gave to Trunk. Trunks came to and rushed Gohan to Bulma, but it was too late, the damage to Gohan's arm was to much and had to be amputated.
