I'm English and I had never watched a game until I lived in Croatia for a few years... I enjoyed watching it there once I understood the rules/culture of the sport but I haven't seen a game since I returned. If it was broadcast on tv here about 5 people would watch!
Actually that's not true, Croatia have an international cricket team... and over 100 years cricket history on Vis... They're actually very good and have aussie/ South African diaspora professionals. Also cricket is popular in Holland^^ I do however take your point that it's a minority sport there.

i definitely disagree on the world championship. poland did deserve to win it all until last sunday, it was an embarassment, however it was still a great accomplishment. until last sunday, germany did great but poland did already beat them before, they just caught them off guard

Congratulations to Germans, whatever can be said on the influence of playing home. We won both football and handball worldcup in France; there s something irrational and special about it. It was a good show and shame for the questions of referees because it gives a bad view of our sport. So let s stop talkin about it and think about the women worldcup! :)
Germany would have never won the wc abroad. They won cause they had the referees to help them when they needed them. I wonder why has germany hold five times a world championship while spain has never hold one tournament. Ask yourselves why germany has 3 world championships , because they always hold it. In the finale the referees were awful again so permisive with germany as along all the tournament.
Oh please. The three time Germany won were 1938 (only four teams took part then), 1978 (in Denmark!) and now. If you want to call that "always", feel free. The last time Germany held the tournament was 25 years ago. Anyway, there's a vote in the IHF on where a tournament takes place, so Spain has the same chance to get it as anyone else.

I have not seen the game against Spain but at the end of the semi final, it was obvious that referees would never give 2 minutes to Germans, though guys like Roggish really deserved it for having strangled Gilles all game long! What a crowd, amazing, I hope we will get such a support for women world champs in France this year. Anyway, all the best to Germans for the title.
I really dont feel bad that we lost, for both teams really deserved victory and Germans made THE game. However, can anybody explain WHY GUIGOU's LAST GOAL WAS REFUSED???? Once again, I dont think the game was stolen but I d rather have lost on more frank and clear move than that. Shame...
There had been no whistle before the ball was in the goal and even so, but was the free throw due to? cause no defenders touched Guigou on the move!!!!
Really, I am bitter because if they did not want France to score, they could have whistled for double bouncing or walking and give the ball to the Germans. It would have been unfair, but at least logical. There, it s absolutely out of sense!

Guys, although I am still bitter, I think the cup was a good a show and I dont feel Germans did not deserve their final. It just sucks they made it on such a wrong move, but they did not steal the game.
I am still proud of my sport, even with a 4th place.
And Iceland agaisnt Slovenia. I dont know how, but it seems we can still qualify...This is the first time the championship is so open; none of the teams hs not been beaten so far, save Croatia I think. Who knows who ll reach the final game?
The video is from the European Championship. But today the World Championsship started in Germany. The opening game was Germany vs. Brasil. And Germany won them. Brasil is not very good. But they are constantly getting better and it´s good to see nations from all around the world joining in. It´s funny, the European Championship is harder to win than the World Championship. The biggest world cup ever is starting 20. january. I come from Iceland and this is the only sport that we are any good at. In the video´s tournament we came in fourth. We are so hoping for good results and we have overcome a huge obstacle by knocking out Sweden, the biggest handball team in history, when we played them in preliminary round.

Iceland knocked out Sweden in the preliminary. Ivano Balic is good yes. But Gudjon Sigurdsson was the chosen the best player of the German league, the best league in the world. And Olafur Stefansson, well I don´t even need to mention that superstar. This is going to be an awesome tournament in Germany.

Well the crowd was not perhaps against you, but they were with the Icelanders. The reason is Alfred Gislason coach of Iceland was coach of Magdeburg when the became european champions. Also Stefansson, Sigurdsson, Atlason and a few others have been playing in MB. Any way the media coverage here is excellent, yesterday there were two games, French-Poland and Iceland-Tunis. Usually there are two games a day on the State governed media. Pretty cool, right.

You have to check the sagas out if you have the chance. Milan Kundera thinks they are the greatest work of literature with only the old Greek literature left out side. The work has inspired most of Richard Wagners operas and the Hobbit and Lord of the rings.
One modern book you could check out is written by Einar Gudmundsson "Englar alheimsins," translated something like "Angels of the universe," it´s brilliant. Any way Icelanders are better musicians than ever authors.

I don´t want to take anything from France, I believe you have the best team, but it´s clear that Slovenia was saving strength for the game against Iceland. Thinking they could not win France anyway so they will put all their effort against us. But we simply have to win or else we need to win Germany at homeground.
Yeah, we lost against local champions. As you know, I could not see the game, thanks to french television but I guess they had hard time with all the crowd supporting Germany. I red that Fritz was excellent once again (and such a dumb ass in talks!).

Once again congratulations for winning Croatia. I think the title lies in the next match between Germany and France because neither Denmark nor Poland will be able to match up to them. Omeyer is a fantastic goalkeeper and probably the best in the world along with Kasper Hvidt. Abalo and Bertrand Gille are my favourite foreign players and France´s future seems in good in their hands, and Karabatic´s of course.
Germany was awful, the referee didn´t let spain come in, spain could not win that match cause it was a very biased and homely referee, I felt really bad for the way the referee treated spain my team. I hope spain will moan to the IHF cause I think we were treated unfairly by the referee in the last five minutes, and in the whole match. everybodie could see that. Anyways congratulations germany.
I completely agree. The referees were very bias. I sympathized big time with the Spanish players. The referees were claiming offensive fouls on the Spanish players, but in the meantime giving the Germans Free throws for exactly the same thing. It was very stupid.

yeah it was bad luck in that situation, the ref had already blown the whistle for a free-throw so the goal wouldnt count

There had been no whistle before the ball was in the goal and even so, but was the free throw due to? cause no defenders touched Guigou on the move!!!!
Really, I am bitter because if they did not want France to score, they could have whistled for double bouncing or walking and give the ball to the Germans. It would have been unfair, but at least logical. There, it s absolutely out of sense!

take it easy, shivakenvil. Germany has to wint this championship and the ihf and the referees will make what is necessary to get it. They made Germany win Spain and then did the same with France. just reasons of money, why didn't they give the cup straight to Germany and the others can play for the second place shame on you, ihf. you have turned the best of the sports into a business show

Guys, although I am still bitter, I think the cup was a good a show and I dont feel Germans did not deserve their final. It just sucks they made it on such a wrong move, but they did not steal the game.
I am still proud of my sport, even with a 4th place.

And Iceland agaisnt Slovenia. I dont know how, but it seems we can still qualify...This is the first time the championship is so open; none of the teams hs not been beaten so far, save Croatia I think. Who knows who ll reach the final game?

The video is from the European Championship. But today the World Championsship started in Germany. The opening game was Germany vs. Brasil. And Germany won them. Brasil is not very good. But they are constantly getting better and it´s good to see nations from all around the world joining in. It´s funny, the European Championship is harder to win than the World Championship. But this is going to change, hopefully.

The biggest world cup ever is starting 20. january. I come from Iceland and this is the only sport that we are any good at. In the video´s tournament we came in fourth. We are so hoping for good results and we have overcome a huge obstacle by knocking out Sweden, the biggest handball team in history, when we played them in preliminary round.

Iceland knocked out Sweden in the preliminary. Ivano Balic is good yes. But Gudjon Sigurdsson was the chosen the best player of the German league, the best league in the world. And Olafur Stefansson, well I don´t even need to mention that superstar. This is going to be an awesome tournament in Germany.

Yes I especially like the German league. Because all the best players of my country are playing there, except Olafur Stefansson who is in Ciudad Real, probably one of the teams in Champions League. The first game is over with Germany trashing Brasil. Any way I hope Iceland will get good support in Magdeburg, where they are playing, after all the coach of Magdeburg when they become champions was Alfred Gislason, now coach of the Icelandic national team.

Any way, I see by your profile that you are from Spain. Big threat there for Iceland. Juan Garcia and Iker Romero are pretty hostile. I hope we don´t need to take them on. We are in a pretty easy column, France, Ukraine and Australia. Key game is with Ukraine. Of course we will win Australia. I don´t know about France though, they are pretty good. Karabatic and Bertrand Gille. Even the veteran Abati. But it doesn´t matter we just have to finish Ukraine.

And don´t try to fool your self. The German league is BEST in the world. Just because this time there were two Spanish team competing for the title, doesn´t mean anything. The Scandinavian countries are huge Handball nations and 80% of their best players are in Germany. Same for Eastern European countries. Everybody agress that the German bundesliga is the best league.

Ha, ha. But there is still a chance for France allthough we put you in a bad spot. You have got 0 points with 8 goals in minus and that is going to be hard to catch up with. But it´s good for France that the coulumn we are in is little easier than the other one. Tunis-Slovenia-Poland-Germany. Germany worried me the most first, but they haven´t really been doing good, so I´m thinking more that Poland will be a tough one. Anyway I still think France and Croatia will go all the way.

And remember, that Iceland suffered defeat by Ukraine, where as France thrashed them with 11 goals. Iceland takes roller-coaster rides in performance, sometimes world-class like in the game with France and other times we are playing like fucking morons. This loss doesn´t mean anything to the quality of France, you are the best today. Iceland had to win, not France, the crowd was all with us because the game was in Magdeburg and we also had a little bit of luck on our side that day.

I am so upset about this...

Well the crowd was not perhaps against you, but they were with the Icelanders. The reason is Alfred Gislason coach of Iceland was coach of Magdeburg when the became european champions. Also Stefansson, Sigurdsson, Atlason and a few others have been playing in MB. Any way the media coverage here is excellent, yesterday there were two games, French-Poland and Iceland-Tunis. Usually there are two games a day on the State governed media. Pretty cool, right.

Icelanders of course think they have some of the best writers in the world, but it´s all bullshit. We had one fantastic though, Halldor Laxness, a noble prise winner. Of course also our greatest literary accomplishment was in 13th century, the Icelandic sagas and Snorra-Edda. Those are brilliant, brilliant, brilliant work of art.

You have to check the sagas out if you have the chance. Milan Kundera thinks they are the greatest work of literature with only the old Greek literature left out side. The work has inspired most of Richard Wagners operas and the Hobbit and Lord of the rings.
One modern book you could check out is written by Einar Gudmundsson "Englar alheimsins," translated something like "Angels of the universe," it´s brilliant. Any way Icelanders are better musicians than ever authors.

Next is Iceland-Slovenia. A tough game. As I said before I suspected Iceland would loose to Poland, although we leading the game until the end, I think we will win Slovenia. I don´t want to take anything from France, I believe you have the best team, but it´s clear that Slovenia was saving strength for the game against Iceland. Thinking they could not win France anyway so they will put all their effort against us. But we simply have to win or else we need to win Germany at homeground.

Yeah, we lost against local champions. As you know, I could not see the game, thanks to french television but I guess they had hard time with all the crowd supporting Germany. I red that Fritz was excellent once again (and such a dumb ass in talks!).

Ha ha. I knew we would win Slovenia and we did. Iceland lost also against Germany and the crowd was very tough. We were saving our players, having the usual bench guys starting in. France will have a difficult opponent, Croatia. It will be tough, but hey, look at it this way. If you want to be champions France will have to beat them anyway, so why wait until the finals to do it. Right? We get Denmark and I give it 50-50 chances.

So great, First defeat of Croatia, ha ha! Abalo has just been too good and Omeyer was again the best keeper in the world.

Once again congratulations for winning Croatia. I think the title lies in the next match between Germany and France because neither Denmark nor Poland will be able to match up to them. Omeyer is a fantastic goalkeeper and probably the best in the world along with Kasper Hvidt. Abalo and Bertrand Gille are my favourite foreign players and France´s future seems in good in their hands, and Karabatic´s of course.

Germany was awful, the referee didn´t let spain come in, spain could not win that match cause it was a very biased and homely referee, I felt really bad for the way the referee treated spain my team. I hope spain will moan to the IHF cause I think we were treated unfairly by the referee in the last five minutes, and in the whole match. everybodie could see that. Anyways congratulations germany.

I completely agree. The referees were very bias. I sympathized big time with the Spanish players. The referees were claiming offensive fouls on the Spanish players, but in the meantime giving the Germans Free throws for exactly the same thing. It was very stupid.
