    HELLO, MEMBER CHANNEL INVITATION

  • what a man ,kirk douglas ! Thank you

  • At 1:32:30-32 is a very strange sight. I wonder if it's on purpose.

  • Why the English are busy killing themselves instead of uniting against the vikings, both in film and real life?

  • ♥ .

  • Is that Orson Welles or Paul Frees narrating?

  • @Onlymusical It's Orson.

  • @ThatsMrMoronToYou Yes, I finally saw it on the credits. Hard to tell them apart sometimes. In fact, Frees sometimes dubbed Welles-oriented dialogue, like with the Johnny Depp movie about Ed Wood. I should've known it was Welles since this was a huge movie in its day.

  • @Onlymusical I wonder if Frees did the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. In that movie, it sounded a lot like Orson, but not quite. I suppose I could look it up. Do you know?

  • @ThatsMrMoronToYou It's Frees.

  • "Love and Hate are horns on the same goat". I think I'll get that tattooed on my neck.

  • It's the Major! Look how young he is!

  • Good movie, but still not an accurate representation of Vikings (though, admittedly, it is more accurate than most).

  • @Spideyfan117 The Vikings were intriguing. Their pre-Columbus settlement in America, Lance-aux-Meadows, the finger of land sticking up from Newfoundland, routinely got 25 feet of snow in a single storm, which continues to be the case. No wonder they didn't make a go of it. Like with the English settlers in Jamestown, they didn't want to be out of sight of their ships. Had they gone inland a bit, it would've been only 5' of snow instead. I've seen their settlement: dirt structures.

  • @Onlymusical Indeed. As a student of history, the vikings are one of my favorite subjects to study. Though, I wonder why you replied to my comment with this information. My original post lacked sufficient substance to warrant such an elaborate response. Thank you for the reply, anways. Very interesting stuff.

  • @Spideyfan117 No particular reason, you were talking about the actual (as opposed to celluliod) Vikings and that sprang to mind. Those 25' snowfalls are no joke, by the way. If someone is out at a store or something when it snows, they push 30' long poles down through the snow searching, until they strike the roof of their house, then they shovel a path at a certain pitch. If they're home, they have to dig out. You can breathe through the snow even if your house has 20' of snow on top of it.

  • Thanks for sharing, Love this film.

  • @nick10165 me too!

  • 1:40:24 Hilarious!

  • Kinda remind me of Skyrim!

  • Why should anyone refer to their wife as a child? Creepy?

-The women are wearing 50s bras under their costumes....notice the shape and pointiness.

  • Been waiting along time, thank you.

  • More than half a century later, still the best Viking movie ever made...and the most accurated. Period.

  • @fritzVirginSteeler and their helmet don't have horns.

  • One of the most beautiful main title ever.

And a wonderful music score also.

And many thanks for the top quality of this post.

  • had no idea until just now that Orson Welles did the narration for this film

  • Til Valhalla!

  • Wow!

Thanx so much for this wonderful movie.

I saw it when it first came out in 1958. I was only eleven years old back then.

The cinematography; suburb acting; scene locations; and wonderful music, all made this movie one of the best that I have ever seen!

I love the very last Viking funeral scene very much. I'd really like to go to Valhalla in this same fashion.
