  • i really dont notice a difference

  • blu ray is sooooooooooooooooooo much better than the dvd..... but the dvd is allright... that's why ps3 is better than xbox360.............

  • lol just pirate blue ray movies and put it on to disks :)

  • e os brasileiros nem comentão pois nem sabem oque é blu-ray kkkkkkkkkk.

  • the Bond shot just ruined DVD's for me. looks like it's time to switch to Blu-ray.

  • ATTENTION ALL VIEWERS.If you have An Excellent LG,Samsung or Toshiba,SONY UpCoverting DVD HDMI OUT Players. The difference between UpCoverted HDMI DVD & Blu-Ray is Very "Subtle" some say NOT Discernable unless told whether it is Up-Converted 1080interlace,1080progressive DVD HDMI or Blu-Ray Movie Content!! When the R.G.B. Video COMPONENT is used, BOTH Upconverting Component DVD Players look Un-distinguishable from Blu-Ray Movies or Video/Audio Data. Some even NOW find COMPONENT VIDEO Up-Converted!

  • @Jules7892 YES IS TRUE!!!! dvd Upscaling is undistiguisable from blu ray!!!!!

  • DVD= ok

    Blu-Ray= AWESOME!!

  • is die hard 4.0 already on blu-ray.??

  • @pluckyou90 All of them are on Blu-Ray. They have been since 07

  • Sims Soundtrack? xD Haha =P Hehe =D

  • 7 people not have blu-ray.

  • I didnt think there was any difference.. now i know o:

  • How can you create an accurate comparison of a blu ray movie, when for one, the image in already taken down from 1080p to 720p, then when you upload it to youtube, it compresses it even more. The difference shown here does not accurately represent the disk format.

  • blu-ray will replace standard dvd

just like cassette was replaced by dvd

  • @sa140 thats true but blu-ray is being replaced by blu-ray 3D and blu-ray isn't even that old yet. blu-ray will die alot sooner than vhs did.

  • @zomaster1 Not everyone wants 3D

  • @doomslayer133 i know that, im starting to not want it to too since all we're getting is converted crap and not for what we actually paid for.

  • @sa140 I'm not sure if blu ray will ever have the chance to replace dvd when digital distribution and streaming are so cheap and convenient, you also don't need special hardware to watch netflix movies, you can use pretty much any game console, computer, tablet or smartphone.

Digital distribution is the future, Blu Ray is the last disc based format for films.

  • @WeEatBrainz Yes! I concur!

  • @sa140 Yeah, I bet no one saw THAT coming!

And then blu-ray will be replaced by the next bullshit media coming up in 10 years when you all got blu-ray bullshit all over your livingsrooms! You fucking idiots!

  • @A55ma57er Blu Ray has already been replaced by digital distribution. Blu ray looks and sounds much nicer than most streamed video, but eventually it will be on par with Blu Ray.

  • BLU RAY WILL DIE SOON !!!

  • @rickie5150 Not soon, maybe in years when they realease HVD (Holographic Versatile Disc) which holds "terabytes" of data

  • DVD are better

    1 better price

2 blu ray is fucking do much for just to see the movie a little better

  • Blu-Ray's hold SEVEN times the amount of picture quality that a DVD can. Go buy VHS if you're opposed to change.

  • @tgvolz It's actually five times more capacity than a DVD can hold. I read it on their official site. The pits are only 0.15 microns and the track pitch is reduced from 0.74 microns on a dvd to 0.32 microns on a blu-ray. As a result, blu-ray can hold five times more data because all the data is tightly compact even though it's the same size as a DVD.

  • @avp375R agreed also Blu-ray has not revolutionized home entertainment. From a technological standpoint, blu-ray has only changed the way information is stored on the disc whereas DVD utilizes simpler digital logic and are actual replacements of the VHS because VHS was all magnetically driven.

  • blu ray makes you look older lol

  • damnn!! bluray is good!! 1:33 I can almost see her nipples :P LOL!!

  • On some blu rays, there are like some dots on the screen, what is that and can I get rid of it? Btw I use a ps3 on a 720p 50 inch tv

  • @ThaMovieManiac those dots are most likely pixels which you can never get rid of because it holds the digitally embedded picture and audio.

  • @ThaMovieManiac Nice to know im not the only one. No i dont think you can change it on PS3

  • I se the difference on my tv greatly but not much here

  • I come to realize after knowing that blu-ray is basically the movie theater experience, that I definitely need to own ET The Extra-terrestrial on blu-ray when it comes out. The original versions came out before I was born and I would like to have the theater experience for the original version. They should also re-release the original in 3D for its 35th anniversary before releasing the blu-ray.

  • i feel like i am at a eye exam a or b a or a b not sure do it again a or b LOL

  • i think u should get to know first the difference between them

  • Lol i thought that first picture was in blu-ray. Looked good

  • lol its like comparing vcd to dvd

  • It will be a while before Blu-Ray completely Take over. Then it will be disregarded like everything else. After all, no product is immortal.

  • for you retards that don't see a difference... try watching an actual Blu-Ray movie! The quality in both audio and video are AMAZING!

    Great vid btw ;)

  • IF YOU STILL DONT SEE THE DIFFRENCE... time to get a microscopic eyes..

  • @Hallucination01 i only see the difference when the camera is on the actor's faces. other than that, i don't notice the effect in the background. it looks the same to me.

  • @FallofDarkness55 i dnt kno whats wit u people that always say u see no diffrence between those 2... do u have a HD dvd? and 1080 hd tv? connect it..watch a movie..then connect ur blu-ray and see the diffrence... also buy a better speakers if u want its full potential...

  • @Hallucination01 luckily i could read your comment. but next time you comment someone, you may want to actually spell correctly.

  • Comment removed

  • @FallofDarkness55 i dnt think it matters..snce wer in the internet... this isnt my english class.. so i'll spell however i wanna spell..and that being said.. what point r u mkin that is gotta do witha vid?

  • @Hallucination01 i already made my point in my first comment. i don't notice the difference in the backdrop. i only notice the change in the foreground i.e. people's faces and other objects like ships in pirates of the Caribbean. and spelling does matter if you want someone to understand you. people may misinterpret what you type and get the wrong idea and respond differently from what you expected.

  • @FallofDarkness55 well..i undrstnd..but let me try get the fact stryt... ur sayin u only see the face clarity and nothin else? well i spose in the video it mainly their faces is being shown but... do u think blu-ray was made to make only the faces look better and nothin else? if the details on their faces r better than dvd..it'll apply the same in the background..for the video is not made by layers...

  • @Hallucination01 well, i agree that the background is changing along with the foreground however i don't notice the transformation of the backdrop of the dvd to the backdrop of the bluray. i only notice the transformation in the foreground. i bet there are some other people out there that are the same way.

  • @FallofDarkness55 That's because the camera intentionally focuses the camera on the subject and blurs out everything else. A high-definition blur isn't supposed to look much better than a standard-definition blur.

  • all blu-rays freeze to much during movies.

  • Oh ok so imma spend few hundreds just to see more wrinkles on the actors' face ? er no thanks. I'm happy with DVDs. Tell me when they invented 3D Disks

  • dam that sucks for the actors they look so much more wrinkled now haha

  • after i watched this.. im convinced to buy my new computer with blue ray!

    thanks alot ! :D

  • en blu ray los actores se les ve el makillaje y se ven mas viejos XD

  • cool

  • I might wear glasses and have not great eyesight, but there is almost no difference in blu ray video and dvd video. unless you include extras, space, sound and longevity. dvd and blue ray is the same t me.

  • @freddy902 thats complete bull man, if you cant see the clear clarity difference then your blind. Or your just mad your stuck with dvd.

  • dvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvdvd

    oh, i mean blu-ray

  • is 2:03 Speed Racer?

  • 1:35 OOOOOh High definition boobs

  • there hardly any difference but blu ray has brighter colours and they are slighty more sharper

  • It's just photoshop unsharp mask set to 100/1/0

  • @TylerMontana Yeah, how else do you think he got the exact same frame every time?

  • As far as the whole bluray craze goes, I'm not jumping on it. What the fuck am I supposed to do, go out and repurchase for $30 a piece all the great movies I already own? I'm just not that stupid, that's flat out idiotic for one, and two it's just playing right into their big scheme to make more money. Some people are just too stupid for their own good though and they'll drop thousands starting all over again. You gonna do it again when Redray comes out? LMAO

  • @fatsachs Well you can purchase your favorite movies like I did. I got Avatar and The Hangover for Blu-Ray, and then I buy those so and so DVD'S, because a blu ray player can play both, and up scale the dvd quality to 1080p.

  • @CornyChris Yeah, that's exactly what I'll do. There will be a few movies here and there and i mean a few that i'll want on Blu ray for sure, i just saw last night the real trailer for Robert Rodriguez' Machete! Besides, 1080p is just fine for me, i'm just not that guy that has to have the latest greatest thing the minute it comes out. That's how you end up with an HDDVD player. LMAO

  • @fatsachs DVD was Redray :D

  • @starvedsanity Yeah I've gotten that statement of mine thrown in my face numerous times now.

  • @fatsachs Yeah because you can't rent blu-ray movies for $1.50 at redbox right? Hell use a promo code and get it for 50 cents.

Also, isn't that what YOU did with all your VHS tapes? Or do you still watch those?

  • @fatsachs $30? where did you get that number from? the standard blu ray cost about $24.96. plus there's many sales and deal. i just bought terminator 2 and robocop for 8 bucks each. as for switching over. that could tough. but since i never bought dvds, i just jumped over

  • @fatsachs well if you want to stay back ,who cares.technology moves forward, and there are people willing to move with it

  • how about frame rate? cus i'd like to watch a movie at 60frames per second.

  • I notice the diffrence so little blu ray does not matter to me the only movies i really notice it on enough to be like... wow thats awesome are older movies such as

willy wonka and the chocolate factory

and some of those older star trek movies

But even when i watch the new blue rays of those movies i feel something is missing the originality

  • blu ray only seems to be a tad bit better ill pass on buying the player its only good for animes

  • 1:15 Blu-ray #FTW

  • yeah yeah so blu ray has 5 time better picture thats not enough in my opinon

give me a movie player with 20 to 25 times better picture then maybe ill be impressed

but then again im 38 years old sigh imm getting old

  • @x100gogeta buy a LED 3D TV and u will see the difference

  • I see the difference but I'm not gonna buy a blu ray player for 2% better HD.

  • a cell CPU for the bluray in PS3 FTW

  • Cant tell the diffrence on the computer. BLURAY FUCKING ROCKS!!!

  • ha i love blu ray wen i first got it the first movie i watched wit it was bring it on it looked ok hahah but wen i saw other movies lik land of the transformer n especily avatar i was lik im in the movie haha 720p ok but 1080p is frieaking amazing

  • 1080p also has lower frame rate of 24fps. you notice on older movies the difference in audio pitch. so in effect are we listening to audio that is slower than intended. if the framerate is lowered to 24fps second what is the score with slower audio pitch. you notice the speech and audio pitch is slower due to lower framerate on 1080p content on some movies compared to original dvd. so are we hearing the audio as it was meant to be heard or what. anybody care to explain.

  • @1982FMJ

What are you talking about? All movies and TV run at 24 frames per second.

  • you're wrong. stop wasting my time

  • @1982FMJ

Im wrong? LOL. Just do a simple search on google about Frame Rates in movies or TV and you will find that you will get an aswer of roughly 24 FPS.

  • i see a low diffrence

  • I have a 32-Inch Vizio Widescreen T.V and the quality is 720p it worth getting a Blu Ray or a PS3 with this type T.V.?

  • @X23Unit

    A Blu-Ray player or a PS3 will do fine.

Although 720p isn't full HD, it's near impossible for a human eye to tell the difference between 1080p and 720p. So yes, buy a HD media player for your TV. It's a lot better than SD.

  • whats that spacey looking movie at end?

  • @JuggernautRecords Speed Racer

  • :)))))) Angels And Airwaves :))))))

  • @x100gogeta

I am sure that there are plenty of people that would like to say 'put your glasses on!'

but I am going to help you see the difference:

    1) Make sure that you are watching HD quality of the above video (switch the little icon in the right bottom corner)

    2) Fast forward to the point of King Kong scene. On DVD you can't even see whether her eyes are open or closed. On Blu ray quality you can see exactly.

Other best examples are those with skin wrincle close ups.

  • This one is the best (actually 100 times better) your comparison movie.

I don't know why but only this part of your videos is really showing huge difference. Also this way of changing screenshots is better than on the others.

Also this video keeps the same size screenshots while on others blu ray version is usually smaller which makes it more dificult to see the difference.

  • blu-ray is awesome!!!

  • these are all pretty good dvd screenshots btw

  • yeh get lcd. preferably one with 1080p picture thats optimum for blu ray.

    phillips 42" 1080p

    ps3

    bose 321 gs

  • Okay... You try to make an argument over how much immature he is, and yet you are still stuck making "I fucked your mother" jokes. Really? When I see someone saying something like that, I hope they actually know what it means, rather than just saying it because it sounds cool. Sure, if you want to raise your self-esteem, but please, do it in another way. Instead of making yourself sound "cool" or whatever you want to sound like, you sound like a buffoon.

  • I will eventually start buying Blu Rays, but Im in no hurry to replace my DVDs

  • u can't see a difference on YouTube but i have Watched Monsters vs Aliens in DVD and BluRay 1080p BluRay Win 100% and the Sound is so much better for movies like

Star Trek 2009 / transporter 3 and many more

  • @GamePlayUpload must my tv full hd for blu ray ???, because my tv is hd ready and it looks very better than dvd ^^

  • Cant, I tired from fucking your mother.

    dumbass 20 year old kid

  • Well I can clearly see the difference but for what's coming up I think I'm just going to skip Blu-ray for the 3D TV gen thats coming up. Reason is most pre-2000 movies are just upscaled DVDs on Bluray discs and this makes the majority of my DVD collection. I have some Blu-rays but very few (Pirates of the Carribean and Matrix movies) but that's about it. I can understand why so many other people upgraded their collections to Blu-rays though.

  • This is a bad comparision video. It is true, some movies are not that much better due to studios not restoring and or remastering titles. I bought a Panasonic V10/50 inch and a cheap Panasonic player for now and the differrence is staggering. It's not just sharpness, the many films take on an almost 3D quaility to them. They jump off the screen. Colors hold up like standard def could only dream of. It's like the dynamics and fidelity of a film has been restored.

  • Very true. Depth of field is much more shallow so it is much more realistic. And it isn't just video, the sound quality to me is an even bigger upgrade.

  • i love district 9

  • I just got a PS3 with District 9 Blu-ray and it is absolutely amazing.

  • This does not sell Blu Ray to me, going off these comparisions it is totally not worth paying inflated prices for Blu Ray. What's with the Glorious music! The difference is not that Glorious!!

  • Blu ray makes everything better. Not by that much but its there. Plus Bluray pric is going down. Bluray beats dvd.

  • @FordGTMaster Even though Blu Ray is better I personally wouldn't spend an extra $10 on movies just because it has better quality and extra features.

  • Just to let you know, these are screen shots. With video, the individual frames aren't going to look as good as the video itself. The difference in watching a blu ray video and a dvd video is huge. Especially in sound quality.

  • If this is a comparison between the two formats it fails to convince me. I can't really see a difference.

  • Has more to do with the transfers from film (if used), and what was done during those transfers. Don't forget - film beats both, by far.

  • We can't go back to analog formats, because we would still have these 12 " discs. Analog formats can't be compressed at all. This is why they invented digital formats.

So we can make to a new digital format like DVD (MPEG-2) but uncompressed, containing ALL the original frames. Obviously, it would require more space on the disc (i.e. it would use the full storage capacity of a blu-ray disc while having the same resolution as a DVD (480p) instead of (1080p) for Blu-ray.

  • that last screenshot with all the pretty towers..what is it from? thanks!

  • The more colourful a move is, the better its going to look in blu-ray, which is why Watchmen looks absolutely orgasmic.

  • I began renting BR movies in the blockbuster and watching them in my PS3 jus for trying and now all the DVD movies and my TV looks like crap!!!!! now i only rent BR movies the difference once you watch BR is evident the quality is awesome...just my opinion U_U

  • if u have a blu ray player or a ps3, dont go back to dvd! always stick to blu ray!

  • not really true,,, makes your normal dvds better

  • @Zooroonies amen

  • BLUERAY FTW!

  • have 2 watch this in hd or there isnt a big difference

  • government must be laughing at us. Nothing comes to fruition with the high tech tvs. HD movies with bars on top and sides, not worth the money at all.

  • A small portion of HD vidz come w/ bars on top and none come w/them on the sides. Even Cable HD the bars are removed. Not being funny I want to know what ur referring 2?

  • honestly the image difference isn't anything to write home about

  • I said the same thing but youtube nore ur monitor can do it justice I have Cable HD HD DVD and BLU Ray and I have double dipped and notice a huge difference in the content the first time I watched a movie I own in SD compare to HD I just sat there and said "WOOOOOOOOOOOOW'

  • DVD will die out 5year later like VHS :-)

  • when i rented 2 movies of the exact same to see which one is better. the blue ray was just much more superior

  • good vid.....but that is some GGGAAAAYYY music

  • VHS 4ever!

  • The image of the video is way better on Blu-ray than DVD. But both of these formats are suffering from motion compensation, which means they are mostly "p frames" or predicted frames that allows greater compression on disc.

If they would put standard-def video on a Blu-ray disc but while having the same bit-rate as for blu-ray video files, you would have nice uncompressed video.

Compressed videos like DVDs and Blu-rays are bullshit because, well, they are compressed.

  • Indeed. And motion compensation is crap, they should film with higher fps instead!

  • The filming was always ok at 24fps. The problem is on Blu-ray, they remove the frames and the player predict the frames in-between the ones still there. There is only 3 or 4 orignal frames left per seconds.

The best example would be a film where a character that opens a book and flips the pages really fast. You won't see all the pages flipping except 2 or 3 pages since the predicted frames can't fill up what's missing. Another example would be natural moves of human body not being circular.

  • Awesome comparison, Given this is youtube, you can only support 720p...

Not as epic as 1080p, BUT this is still an amazing comparison and I see a HUGE difference.

(watch in HD if you don't)

    Blu-Ray FTW!!!

  • Thank you :) Much appreciated!

  • DVDs are BLURRY GARBAGE. They have crappy lossy audio and are limited to 5.1 sound in most DVDs, with the RARE 6.1 DTS-ES Discrete DVD. Most Blurays have LOSSLESS audio or UNCOMPRESSED audio. The Picture Quality is RAZOR sharp on my new Pioneer Kuro Elite with Bluray. On dvd it's a BLURRY MESS. Even with UPCONVERSION, DVD's are barely OK, and without it they're utter garbage. In the 3rd world you'd expect people to watch crappy DVDs, but in the US only LOSERs used DVDs.

  • blu ray 4 ever

  • AvA FTW!!!

  • If you guys watch in HD theres a huge difference....and its not even HALF of what a blue ray can do in a 1080p HDTV

  • DVD is disgusting now. SERIOUSLY. For the best blu-ray image buy a SONY/SAMSUNG 1080p 120/240mhz HDTV. IF u own a 720p hdtv u might as well save money and buy a dvd upconverter player....The image is very similar. (the blu ray audio is still better)

  • Comment removed

  • BLUE Ray!

  • DVD arnt blurry blurry but see on dvd the picture quality isnt sharpened and colors arnt shaded in more like blue ray is.people who cant tell the difference between blue ray and DVD are dumb in the head.cause its very easy to tell from a blue ray picture from a DVD picture.i can go on but don't want to write more

  • Blu-ray have win

  • None of those screenshots look like DVD or bluray images.

They look more like xvid and x264. Way too many compression artifacts. Decent DVD/bluray transfers wouldn't have artifacts that huge.

  • This video is also only 720p as well, if you're watching a Blu-ray on a 40 inch+ HD, it blows away a DVD on the same screen.

Plus Blu-Ray is for sound as well, not to mention to stop piracy.

  • blu ray doesn't stop piracy, there are so many blu ray rips.

  • Yes, but the anti-piracy in Blu-rays is kind of dumb though, seeing as the point of Blu-Ray is to enjoy it in HD (which all Blu-ray owners have) so it will seem pointless to most piraters to sit and watch a movie on a screen where they can see no difference.

  • Ummm no. The people who download blu ray rips watch it on their ps3 or whatever at full resolution - exact same quality as the blu ray.

  • i love watching all you dvd fan boys crying . Stop living in the past . blu ray is better there is no ifs ands or buts . its better in every way then dvd is . holds way more data better picture better sound end of story. go cry some more T_T

  • you don't realize what is the real purpose of bluray. it was invented to stop piracy, using a lot of massive protections

( drm ).because dvd had became too easy to copy and it was no more efficient in this way. there is no much difference between bd and dvd that it worth to change like it worthed from vhs to dvd. the bd was born already old, it will be replaced very soon by another new format; in the meantime, we can simply upscale our dvds with a 1080p upscaling dvd player on a hd tv

  • so much bs there i dont even know where to start. Ever hear of an HDTV? oh yeah you have not cus you live in the 90s . dvd was not made for hd thus it looks like crap on a new tv. DRM is on dvd already. if you think blu ray does not look better go see a doctor your eyes are not working right . blu ray has more features you have not stop the movie on dvd to change anything on blu ray u dont . also bd live gives even more content that did not make it to disc.

  • this is what they want: to convince you that what you have (dvd) is shit, and you need to rebuy everything in bluray. They are just trying to replace dvds because they are no more effective in fighting piracy. this is not the normal evolution of video format. as soon as they realized that dvd was easy to copy they started to think about a new disc more protected. think of that. bd's drm is much different from dvd drm

  • I never needed to be conviced that blu ray looks better. the first blu ray i saw blew me away . I don't rebuy any of my movies. all the blu rays i have are movies i never had on dvd . Dvd is an old format made for sd tvs. We know a HD srouce for movies . technology needs to move forward .

  • you are too blind. if the companys release a new disc in 2010 with 2479x1984 resolution you will be convinced that this is

"technology that move forward ". bluray was born only to satisfy the companies' needs, not ours...dvd was born in 1997 and in 2002 they already have created the bluray, this should make you think of.anyway, bd is going to live only for 5 years, it has won in feb 2008 and still very few people want it. bd is going to die and is going to be replaced very soon.

  • that would be a big step forwards and it would look even better. to bad no tvs do that res . dvd was also made for the companys needs your point is? no company sells some thing cus they love us so huggy buggy much . they do it to make money . yeah so few people want blu ray its selling faster then dvd did at the time period in the life span as dvd did. you seem to be igoring the fact that blu ray looks and sounds better its not just a dvd with drm. .

  • ehmm, i don't know what you're saying, but there are a lot of blu ray movies illegal on the internet-_-'

  • These "anti-piracy' things can be worked arrounnd by anyone with descent AV and computer skills.

  • If only Blu Ray was piss cheap then I'd buy them over DVD.

  • why would you pay less for a better product?

  • bluray is 1080p, not just 720p....

  • and normal dvds are 576p enen if your dvd player is connected up by hdmi

    (576p - Standard Defenition)

  • ??For real?? You must be blind. The picture looks so clear in HD. Take for example Bruce Willis's shirt at 0:16, then at 0:21. You can clearly see the stitching of the shirt, as clear as day.

  • it looks brighter in HD, thats all. You can still see the stiching on BW's shirt in DVD just fine

  • You need to watch the video in HD to see the difference and if you still can't you need glasses -_-

  • Hi, Peeps I agree that blu-ray is better than dvd when i see blu-ray in a shop it looks great. But have a prob I have a ps3 and all the settings are correct and a 37inch panasonic TX-37LZD80 not sure about settings. I have noticed that blu-ray is very grainy and does not look that good at all can anyone help with this issue, blu-ray quility Sweeny todd ok click poor and shawshank best lol its true help would be great thanks

  • The settings on your TV is probably not "correct." The best thing to do is to calibrate it, either professionally (which will give you the most accurate results) or with a (less accurate) calibration disc (e.g. Digital Video Essentials); however, the "graininess" of your picture could be because of your sharpness setting: it may be set too high. Try setting it to 0-ish.

  • yes there is a big difference

  • I used to think the difference wasn't significant enough to upgrade. DVD, especially upconverted DVD, looks pretty damn good on an HDTV. But now that I have a PS3, I really can tell the difference and standard def sort of bugs me now.

  • king kong is a must see in blu ray! i saw it yesterday on my dad's ps3 and WOW, i need to get my ps3 soon because blu ray is amazing, great video man
