Changing gravel in an established tank

do small portions of gravel at the time, this isnt a job you should rush through, and using smaller portions, also cleans it more thoroughly

for one why are you changing the gravel there's no point, and two you dont even need to take a water sample into a pet store you can just be intelligent enough to test your own water

I just recently had a 5 gallon tank set up (about a week now) the initial gravel I put in (small stones) seemed like a good idea but I noticed now that the flake food gets trapped in between the stones of goes to the bottom of the tank. I want to do a 100% change and move to regular gravel but I already have a few fish in there...how can I go about it?

ok i will continue to do my 10% water changes every 2 weeks , the only chemicals i used was to take out the clorine , stress coat, and tap water conditioner,the thing is that i changed the filter the sand and the water at the same time the guys at petco toldme that its like starting from zero again. but thanks for your advise

Frist off 40 to 45% water changes is waaayyy to much, do about a 10% water change about every 2 weeks. Chemicals shouldn't be used to clean up cloudiness in fact with the exception of water conditioners chemicals should be used little as possible. the cloudiness is most likely due to the bacteria redeveloping in the tank and will go away with time. Just continue with partial water changes every other week. Leave your tank as is and it should turn around with in a couple weeks

hey , i have a 10 gallon tank and i changed the gravel about like 2 weeks ago and i did a 40 to 45 % water change also changed the carbon filter, now i have realy cloudy water for the past 2 weeks at petco they toldme to add acurel-f to clear it up , as i did and worked a lil bit but the water still clowdy so y took a water sample to petco and they tolme i was fine that the water cycle was not done yet because there was no beneficial bacteria in the gravel. plz give me some advise. thanks

Thanks god I see you video, I was ready to change the gravel in my tank without taking any advice from anybody, now I have to place the old gravel in a filter bags and leave it for a few weeks in the tank. thanks nice Aquarium

What if i just want to add new gravel. I didn't add enough when I started my fish tanks? If I add new gravel, will my tank have to cycle again? I don't have to take any gravel out, just add new gravel..

just wash it and add it . It shouldn't hurt anything

Great job tank looks nice. I like the natural gravel better.
