Iowa All State Orchestra and Choir: America the Beautiful

I was in Iowa All-State over 25 years ago (band), and it's hard not to get choked up watching this video...every year, the orchestra plays this song with choir, and later the band plays the Wilhousky "Battle Hymn" with the choir. During this number, I remember most of the band was singing the choral parts while waiting in our chairs (the band and orch are seated next to each other on the floor of Hilton Coliseum).

what do the guys wear in iowa all state? do you have to bring it?

Orchestra guys wear black. Band guys wear their uniforms. Choir guys wear their robes.

If i remember rightly, we wore our high school choir robes. That's why we're all retardedly different.

Orchestra was all black. i was never in the band.

I loved all-state! I made it for the first time this year, and being a senior it's my last. I was in the band...go tubas!!

This takes me back! 00', '01, '02, '03 baby!! Talkin' bout the direction of Peter Bagley (RIP) in '01 and Simon Carrington (douche) in '02. Anybody else?

Fantastic! I was in the Iowa All State Choir in 2002 and 2003, and I remember getting chills while singing this and the Wilhousky arrangement of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic". Thanks for posting this; it brings back so many wonderful memories.

Between this number and the Wilhousky arrangement of "Battle Hymn," I was getting a little weepy when I was in the all-state orchestra in the late '80s...
