steves "signature" sound still comes through regardless... his vocal "tone' quality is so distinguishable.. a true great singer and after 30 some yrs? mad props to Steve!
Saw them play this Oct. 7th. in So. Ca. After 35 years of making music, they still had the energy to play this song like it was the 1st. time. More than got my moneys worth. This song rocked, as did the entire concert. Love Kansas!!!
strange to see steve not getting the spotlight.. didn't know the bass player took over robby's vocals, but its pretty much spot-on. DAMN this band is still good
What was really neat is the shows they do In Kansas City from Time to time Kerry Livgren would show up and play with them, it is awesome hearing the dueling guitar sound on Carry On Wayward Son, LONG LIVE THE GREATEST PROG ROCK BAND AMERICA HAS EVER SPAWN KANSAS!!!!!,
I saw a reunion of the original band with Livgren and Walsh in the 90's in a bar in Schaumburg, IL and they absolutely ROCKED...played every tune you'd want to hear except Icarus and it sounded like studio. I'd agree with best American Prog Rock, 4th all time behind Yes, Tull and ELP
He also shows up at their shows in Topeka on occasion, as that's where he's from and still living as I understand it. It is an awesome thing to have those two going with the guitars!!!
Thanks Kaz for posting this. I always like to keep up with one of my all-time favorites ---- KANSAS! I realize the audio quality of this vid leaves a lot to be desired but it's still cleart that Billy's voice just doesn't come close to Robby's. On "Miracles" you really miss Robby's rich and powerful mid-range tenor. Kudos to Billy for trying but he just can't match Robby. Still, I am amazed at how Kansas continues to forge ahead with so many personel changes and exits, age and no chart action.
To the trailer trash MORON child who called them a 'garage band'... go listen to Britney or your 'American Idol' CD's. This band is as musical and talented as rock musicians get! You should delve into your parents' old, classic album collection to see what REAL rock music was all about in it's heyday!
'Leftoverture' was arguably one of rock's SHINING MOMENTS! I just listened to the digitally remastered CD on my high-end system yesterday (McIntosh amplification and Magnaplanar hi-res speakers) and peed in my pants! I told my wife, "they don't make great music like this anymore... the 70's rule!" Her response, "yes, and so do the 80's"! LOL!
yall are idiots if you think they dont still rock. Our lead singers dad is the bass player, and we've opened for them numerous times, and WOW, they still put on one HELLUVA show for being 50+... you cant really judge on YOUTUBE...check em out in live concert and you'll see!!
Garage band...??? That's harsh. These guys are still a great band, most of them have more talent in their pinky finger than half the "artists" today... put together.
Saw them in 2004 with Robby Steinhart. One word. Awesome.
great!! the audio is rough but I don't see anything better out there. This is one of their very best songs! These guys are great musicians, especially love the acoustic/electric setup ala rush/lifeson . Thanks for posting!
I got to see them in the pouring rain at Cooper River Park in NJ on July 4th (07) - it was just great to hear these incredibly underrated songs once again live. I was screaming at the top of my lungs and lost my voice for a day! Now that brings me back to a time when... Peace
I agree with the post below. It's not at Kansas level - although the song is great. I think they were managing Kerry absence somehow but yet another lost (Steinhart) is too much. Steve is not at his top form also.
Over time with all the band member changes and with age settin in, best to just retire it and listen to the original LP's. Kansas Rocks forever on vinyl, not Youtube! This sounds like a wanabe kansas garage band.
Billy- the bassist- is my cousin- been trying to catch up with them for 2 years- wish they would head SOUTH!!!! thanks for a dose of what i have been missing
