Love kubuntu but also have to say this is why people use windows. Not trying to troll here but I have been through the same thing and while it feels good to get everything up and running smooth it is absolutely ridiculous that it would take 2 days to make a system work properly even for someone of a decent tech knowledge.I understand manufacturers play a part in the hardware issues but still. I also love puppy Linux as a rescue cd or for old systems.
Yeah, I running Kubuntu on a Compaq Presario F700 w/ AMD 64 Athlon x2 Dual Processor TK-55 1.80Ghz and my laptop is only almost a whole year, but I getting a Sony Vaio N21E/W this year for Christmas
i have a compaq f750us amd athlon x2 1.9ghz 2.5 gb ram 120gb hd but any ways how do i get the wireless to work =9wow the dude just said do the updates to get the wireless to work im going to try that great video dude.
I am impressed. You mean to tell me your Dell laptop works? I know Kubuntu is working with the Intel Processor.. but wow.. your Dell laptop is working? Mine wouldn't plug into the wall because the plug prongs were bent inwards, and once I fixed that then the laptop kept restarting over and over. I returned that p.o.s. immediately.
I had it before I switched to 2 gig, it would work but the cube would lag if i had too many windows open with caps images a a skydome, even with 2 gig it still lags if i have too much open
you do something wrong... I've tested it. My system (amd 64 4000+ single core, 1ghz ram Gforce 6800) could run the cube without lag with about 50 random programs (firefox, terminal e-mail media etc...)... when i passed sixty programs it began to lag...
Counia manman! you are a gorilla. Shave yourself for the next video, your arm at least, my niece was looking... ;) Tak for this good comments but could you avoid static camera, this computer is in 3D and it's difficult to see details on youtube. Have a nice day.

it seems like everyone who tries to defend xp gets shut down quickly. But seriously, i'm chillin here in ubuntu right now, with Beryl, got xmms running, and i'm using 250mb of ram. Linux is stable, clean and fast, no matter how you look at it. KDE is a tad bit bloated, that's why i'm a gnome user.
As for the "grafic features" rofl @ the bad spelling (perhaps you can buy a dictionary as well as a brain), they're fine. You know what, goddamn i'm not gonna continue, you just won't understand.
GNOME is actually more resource hungry than KDE. Many GNOME users have fallen for the myth that KDE is 'bloated' mistaking features and functionality for 'bloat' (thinking KDE is using more resources). I've found KDE running KDE applications uses less RAM than GNOME. GNOME runs too many processes.
Windows is less secure and vulnerable to viruses. With open source, anyone can fix bugs in the code. I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 dual-booting XP Media Center and Mandriva 2007 Spring, and it runs nicely with Linux.
I've been using Kubuntu Linux since 2004 and all I can tell you is that it is much more stable and secure, performance is much better and its more enjoyable to use than Windows. The idea of going back to Widnows makes me cringe.
Kubuntu works fine for me "out of the box", no problems. Unless you consider a few mouse clicks to open up the Adept package manager to get a driver for my nVidia graphics card a problem ? Or installing a few codecs the same way ? I've had no problems with Flash either. But even if you did, that would be a browser issue, not a Linux issue. When was the last time you used Linux ? 1997 ?
No, it was ubuntu 6.x. And it was really good compared to suse 10 or Fedora but you always encounter many problems with graca, network, standby, video playback and so on. I spend 3 days to get it working like i wanted! But i never managed to fix this flash scroll issue and i could not enable scrolling on my TP
I have friends who have tried Ubuntu have had issues that I've never had. They ask me, but it usually seems to be GNOME and GStreamer issues. One friend had trouble with Skype, but I've never had such troubles. Network works out of the box with Kubuntu, no problems. It impressed the cable guy quite a bit that it just worked, only needed to give Kontact the address of the email server. :) I recommend Kubuntu.
The thing is that it all depends on your hardware. For example ubuntu 6.x didnt had a wlan manager so it didnt worked out of the box for me. But in the near future I'll try the 7.x version. Maybe it'll be better. But i doubt that I'll switch form XP which works perfectly!
do u play games on it? i have the almost same laptop and im wondering if you play video games such as Counter strike or warcraft is it ok to the laptop? plz tell me...
Yeah you can, you have nothing to worry about, i had a dell basic laptop and i was able to play CS fine, you should play source on yours too and warcraft
I installed Kubuntu on a Lenovo 3000 laptop a week or so back... other than a couple minor hitches that took a few hours to fix, everything has worked flawlessly, in fact it's probably running better than it did with Windows on it. Very smooth installation process and great OS overall.
I leaving linux now i go back to windows. i sorted the mouse and keyboard freezing but when i install it it gets suck on 54% lol. And i cant find any linux i dunno where my hard drive is, i dunno how to change the resolution, dunno how to check my system, even dunnno how to change background (this is kubunto 6.10) So back to windows xp and few days time vista. Does any 1 know how to get linux to run on windows?
Of course if you have driver problems with Windows XP or Vista you'll spend time trying to sort it out. And if you don't know how to do something in Windows, you'll find out. But you can't even be bothered finding out how to change your screen resolution in Kubuntu ? (HINT: Kmenu>System Settings>Monitor & Display). Kubuntu doesn't suck, you do.
i got Kubuntu 6.10 i think. When i start it all loads up like normal but i cant control the mouse. It wont move. It feel like it froze but the clock is still working i thing the keyboard freezes as well.
You need to install something called ndiswrapper. Then after you install ndiswrapper, put your wifi drivers in a directory on the HD, go into the console, change to the directory where your wifi drivers are, and type in "sudo ndiswrapper -i driver.inf".
I just installed kubuntu on a Dell Inspiron 9400 after watching this video. Some bumps in the road but it's halfway there. I used to ati-driver installer to get the graphics card working properly (go to their website).
I'm having flaky success with the sound. It sometimes works but then sometimes stops.
I still haven't gotten the media buttons working yet. That's next.

maybe, but the problem with Linux is that you have to fix 1 million problems before you can use it! And after its all fixed
you discover that you cant scroll if your cursor is over a flash window and so on. <(just an example)
