well, i kinda notice that if the drumline is in the back,it takes a few delayed seconds for the beat to get down at the bottom, especially if your band is big.but i perfer the d line to be on the side, that way everybody is straight with tempo.and plus, the DMs can do there best to keep tempo, but when it all comes down, the band is gonna stick with the percussion so the music wont clash.
Drumline is suppose to adhere to the DM's directing as much as any other section. But if they don't they are a big reason for the tempo problem. Can't have the band following the Direccting of the Director or DM and the Percussion on their own program. Make sense to you?
i like. I notice the bands in the MEAC, not all of them, prefer their percussion in the front. Why is that? I heard tempo problems however, if that is the case why can't they keep the tempo?
i play for nsu we play behind the band my high school played behind the band also. Both my high school and college are in Va. NCAT use to play like that but now they have changed. I think it just depends on wat the director wants and tradition.
Its not about the percussion section keeping time as much as it is the whole band keeping time, When you have the percussion in the back then all of the wind players have to listen back to them, thats kinda hard.
having the percussion in the front just helps to keep the band together more
P.S. DMs don't keep the band in time the drumline does
@chicagomarchingbands i think SCSU is the only band to continue that in the MEAC... howard and A&T used to do it not long ago, but from recent years ive seen that they have moved the cush to the back.
@chicagomarchingbands with Percussion in the front the winds naturally want to listen forward to the rhythm section which is never right because it will cause the sound from the winds to be delayed... where as if you are listening back to the percussion it will sink up better because you will be basically in time with the person behind you... they always tell you, especially in drum corps, never to listen forward to the pit, always listen back...
Gotta love my section lets go trumpets
