this movie makes me remember my youth days when i was as young as that preggy teen girl..in tis movie...damn! however the irony about this movie is that while they support their country, their countries sends 1000s and 1000 young men to die for it! really a waste of lives and resources!! affffffff but nevertheless tis was a remarkable movie, without question, the mistake of man is not that they make history, but that they REPEAT it,about time to learn! with tis current global crisis!
War is an ugly and demented beast, devouring both good and bad, it has no reason, no rhyme, it cares not. Its thirst for blood is unquenchable, its lust for death unknowable It grinds the innocent between its red-stained teeth, and leaves only waste in its wake. And always, a few babies are left crying in the dust of aftermath, to grow and fight in the next one.
Wars R Shit. Can't Governments settle disputes over games like soccer or whatever else instead of killing innocent people that are totally helpless and innocent!
@MikeTooleK9S "They need to make a sequel with Berger in Vietnam. It could easily be the greatest Vietnam war musical of all time."
It could easily be the only Vietnam musical of all time. :-) But as someone pointed out, they made Platoon and Born on the Fourth of July... Maybe Berger fell in with Sgt. Elias.
Manchester England,England (eyes, look your last) Across the Atlantic sea (arms, take your last embrace) I'm a genius genius (& lips,oh you the doors) I believe in God (of breath, seal w/a righteous kiss) I believe that God believes in Claude,That's me (The rest is silence) We starve, look At one another short of breath Walking proudly in our winter coats Wearing smells from laboratories Facing a dying nation Of moving paper fantasy Listening for the newtold lies W/ supreme visions of lonely tunes
It was so sad to see Berger killed in the Vietnam War. All those million men wana to serve their country lost their lives for nothing. Sad really. A soldier dies, a mother loses a son and a rich man gains a dollar. We should start having another revolution and bring eternal peace. Im fed up war after war. Innoncent people are killing each other for nothing. Look at Israel killing Palestinians just for the land. They fight for greed and possessions.
It is forty years later and the same crap is going on in Afghanistan and Iraq. Poor American kids getting their legs blown off and breathing in DU dust while Cheney, Bush, and the rest of the Military-Industrial-Oil-Intelligence Complex is getting rich. And paying far less taxes than they should considering the profits they are making. And no Americans are protesting this Fascism! We are sheep, and we are doomed to fail.
OH MY GOSH!! I just noticed for the first time that when it shows Claude, Sheila, Hud, his wife, his kid, Woof and Jeanie standing by Berger's grave stone, Jeanie and Woof are standing next to each other holding their baby, so the baby WAS Woofs!!!
I still do not understand, how USA could brainwashed so many boys to join the army and go to Vietnam. It was more succesfull than brainwashing system of the communists. USA worldwide motto: Better to be dead, then to be communist. Nice idea of how to promote " democracy. UUUHHHHHH fuck war! i wasabout to fall in luv with berger! why does war hav to be so cruel? i cried! i hate u war!i kno the movie was great but berger :(
@misssmokealot I thought Berger was aware that Claude was terrified from the beginning. He was the "fixer"; got the pony for Wolf, got the girl for Claude, got them all out of jail -- so he wanted to fix Claude. He had burnt his own draft card, and couldn't dissuade Claude from going to war even tho he was terrified. So, he took his place. As a prank at first, but maybe subconsciously, he was going - to "fix" his country.
I would assume that it was Wolf's baby, because it looked like a white baby. I think the baby would have looked bi-racial if it was the black guys baby.
This movie, the musical and the music have been among my favorites since my childhood in the 1960 & 70s. I remember watching the TV and it was the first time the REAL war was brought into the households of Americans. The death, protests, and scandals... We're right back there, thank you GW & Dick! regardless, this is just such a different ending and yet it works for the drama part of this movie. they lyrics are so phenominal.
Of course Berger didn't want to go; he didn't want anyone to go. He did take a risk - allowing his friend to have one more normal day before going to a senseless war in a far off land...
@penntocali You are right he just met Claude it wasn't like they were child hood friends and he wanted Claude to enjoy practically his last days!!!!! True friendship!!!
You dont understand, Milos Forman gave two shits, he made a master piece, not a copy. Berger's death is much more ironical, and therefore makes a better choice in an artists viewpoint.

Thanks for uploading it ;)

And yes, he is also playing the Doctor (no, o.c. not THE Doctor) in Everwood.
I loved this when it came out. You should upload JC Superstar, also. I'm glad I was alive to experience the 60s and 70s, but where are all the men with HAIR?? Nothing better than a man with long hair and if you don't know why, you need to sit down and think about, think about it real hard.
Thanks SOOOOOOOOO much SugarPlumJade this has been my favorite movie since ive seen it when i was 8. i used 2 watch it everyday. i lost the movie nd haent been able to c it in ages... but now thx 2 u i noe where i can watch it now : ]
I adore this movie, but I can't bear to watch the ending again. It's just so hard to watch and heartbreaking. I love to watch "Let the Sunshine In" though.
Oh, Berger...he was certainly one of, if not the best example of a true, selfless friend.
Thanks ton for having the movie up! I watched it for my history of rock 'n' roll class for the anti war period. Very moving! I think I'm going to have to buy it, great flick!
Great movie! I just bought it and I just can't stop watching it again and again.
Berger's death is very unfair... He always said he wouldn't go to war to kill innocent people, to kill women and children... and now he is the one who got killed. Hippies were there to provide peace, love and fight against war... why did people didn't listen to them? Look what's going on today... War, again and again... :(
that's the first time i ever watched it, and it was just so beautiful. i was crying and crying, and when berger sand 'manchester england' again, oh god i cried even more.
it was just so not fair. his life was so carefree.
he was just doing something beautiful for a friend, why did he have to die?
war is horrible. war is horrible.
why can't the world see it?
what i would give to bring back to hippy era. to bring back love and peace. and care.
He didn't want to do anything, wtvcri (I can't spell your name) because that would have also gotten Claude in huge trouble. I'm sure if it was just his ass on the line he would've gotten thrown in jail... but he was thinking of his best friend :[. Such a touching movie. My favourite of all time, without a doubt.
but....couldnt he have done sth? wasnt there a way to avoid getting on the plane?!?! he was so..free up until then, coulnt he just lie down or sth? and then go to jail? or anything just...not die?
but i guess t shows that even the ones defying authority and the army and all that chicken in the face of such...idunno...such big stuff
i cry every time... love this film... been 2 day at central park and wanted to see this when im back.. thanks youtube and thanks sugarplumjade!!! let the sunshin in!!! xxx
wow this movie was beautiful! I had no iead what the movie would be about I only knew the music. I was very amazed how powerful and moving it was. I did not expect the ending. I am deffenitly seeing it on broadway when it comes in a few months!!
I heard that the play is very different tho. does anyone know wht is different? I know they did not have I Believe in Love one of my favorites!
what a deep friendship !! berger is so brave, i could have never stand that!! i think i would have been so damn frightnend and than probably collaps or somethin !!!
i can totally feel with him, when he´s completely confused and doesnt know what to do!! i wouldnt have either !
i hate war ! it just sucks ! it can never be a possibility to create some kind of justice or peace, not if you murder innocent children and think that youre doing a favour to your country by that
anti-americanism my ass.... are you trying to say america stands for death? senseless death? My boyfrien is from a military family and I would never ever say such a thing. He understands my views on peace and I understand his patriotism. He would give his life for a friend just like Berger did an so would I. As far as I know THAT is America.
Many thanks for reminding me why I loose faith in part of humanity constantly.
Yeah, me too. I am all for being a socialist nation. Heck, even Newsweek says we are all socialist now. I'll just do some community service and live on welfare for as long as it lasts. And hope I don't get sick since diabetes runs in my family I'll be turned away for care. But, we are all the same and the big bad business owners need to pay the price for being so successful.
I definitely agree with you. we have become too imperialist and we should stop sticking our noses where we don't belong!
soon the dollar will crash and we will be put in our place - at the bottom of the ladder where we belong for all the horrible things we have done. I can't wait to see what i qualify for under the stimulus. i hope obama can give me tuition so i can get a degree and work for acorn, they will have all kinds of available jobs because they are getting 5 billion in stimulus. I can't wait to work for them and feel really good about myself!
And its not even socialism for the people, its socialism for big businesses! I mean that's exactly what trickle down is! These companies run on consumer demand and private investments, why should my money be used for their benefit? And the sad and pathetic thing is that republicans who only want power brainwash people into thinking it isn't socialism so they end up going against their better all for the sake of this capitalistic idea. And hello isn't taxing redistributing the wealth anyway?
Not for peace? freedom to destroy all that's traditional and family oriented? Like love? Becasue there's so much love here it's not even funny. Maybe there is something wrong 'with traditional and family oriented values' for so many people to be touched with this. You know what'struly disturbing? People like you...
No listen those men were forced to die for our country.
That's not America, America is supposed to be about freedom and about choices. Yes those hippies made their choice, they were dirt poor, leaching off of their parents, doing god knows what. I think you can see from that at the age of 12 that although a fun lifestyle its not practical. The movie never justifies it.
And I'm glad those traditions are dying
Where's the "family values" in being forced to watch your family die?
The worst/best part of this is that you know he had to tell someone that he was not Claude (his name is correct on the tombstone), but died over in Vietnam anyway. That's what sucks so bad! Do you know that there are people out there who think this is one of the worst movies ever? I don't get it. It's the greatest!
This movie is great, i don't get how people can hate it either, i guess some people just are not enlightened and see a reason for POINTLESS, pointless death.
You think Claude would've been able to get to Berger in time had he hopped back into the car and driven to the airfield instead of going by foot?

I loved this when it came out. You should upload JC Superstar, also. I'm glad I was alive to experience the 60s and 70s, but where are all the men with HAIR?? Nothing better than a man with long hair and if you don't know why, you need to sit down and think about, think about it real hard.

I think I'm going to have to buy it, great flick!

whats the name of this movie?

Hair (1979) :D
Great movie! I just bought it and I just can't stop watching it again and again.
Berger's death is very unfair... He always said he wouldn't go to war to kill innocent people, to kill women and children... and now he is the one who got killed. Hippies were there to provide peace, love and fight against war... why did people didn't listen to them? Look what's going on today... War, again and again... :(
Wish I was there, in the 60s and 70s!
Merveilleux film, Bravo!

that's the first time i ever watched it, and it was just so beautiful. i was crying and crying, and when berger sand 'manchester england' again, oh god i cried even more.
it was just so not fair. his life was so carefree.
he was just doing something beautiful for a friend, why did he have to die?
war is horrible. war is horrible.
why can't the world see it?
what i would give to bring back to hippy era. to bring back love and peace. and care.
thank so SO much for uploading

I like seeing them all together at the end, with Sheila and Hud's girl- losing Berger has really brought them together
Plus, do you notice, at the end, Woof has his arm around Jeannie. So he's the father.

He didn't want to do anything, wtvcri (I can't spell your name) because that would have also gotten Claude in huge trouble. I'm sure if it was just his ass on the line he would've gotten thrown in jail... but he was thinking of his best friend :[. Such a touching movie. My favourite of all time, without a doubt.

absolutely fantastic !!!!
what a deep friendship !! berger is so brave, i could have never stand that!! i think i would have been so damn frightnend and than probably collaps or somethin !!!
i can totally feel with him, when he´s completely confused and doesnt know what to do!! i wouldnt have either !
i hate war ! it just sucks ! it can never be a possibility to create some kind of justice or peace, not if you murder innocent children and think that youre doing a favour to your country by that

talk about anti-americanism in all its glory
RockTheFacts 3 years ago
anti-americanism my ass.... are you trying to say america stands for death? senseless death? My boyfrien is from a military family and I would never ever say such a thing. He understands my views on peace and I understand his patriotism. He would give his life for a friend just like Berger did an so would I. As far as I know THAT is America.
Many thanks for reminding me why I loose faith in part of humanity constantly.
velkoria 3 years ago
No. America is a free nation, these men were FORCED to die for their country before they were even 20.
I'm sorry but that's an America I don't support and have no trouble saying that.
Thank god that America died, that false nation filled with lies and empty promises, now we can move on to what its actually about.
Sshelly34213 3 years ago 2
Yeah, me too. I am all for being a socialist nation. Heck, even Newsweek says we are all socialist now. I'll just do some community service and live on welfare for as long as it lasts. And hope I don't get sick since diabetes runs in my family I'll be turned away for care. But, we are all the same and the big bad business owners need to pay the price for being so successful.
I definitely agree with you. we have become too imperialist and we should stop sticking our noses where we don't belong!
RockTheFacts 3 years ago
soon the dollar will crash and we will be put in our place - at the bottom of the ladder where we belong for all the horrible things we have done. I can't wait to see what i qualify for under the stimulus. i hope obama can give me tuition so i can get a degree and work for acorn, they will have all kinds of available jobs because they are getting 5 billion in stimulus. I can't wait to work for them and feel really good about myself!
RockTheFacts 3 years ago
And its not even socialism for the people, its socialism for big businesses! I mean that's exactly what trickle down is! These companies run on consumer demand and private investments, why should my money be used for their benefit? And the sad and pathetic thing is that republicans who only want power brainwash people into thinking it isn't socialism so they end up going against their better all for the sake of this capitalistic idea. And hello isn't taxing redistributing the wealth anyway?
Sshelly34213 3 years ago
This is disturbing! This is not for peace, it is for freedom to destroy all that is traditional and Family oriented.
toplaycool 3 years ago
Not for peace? freedom to destroy all that's traditional and family oriented? Like love? Becasue there's so much love here it's not even funny. Maybe there is something wrong 'with traditional and family oriented values' for so many people to be touched with this. You know what'struly disturbing? People like you...
velkoria 3 years ago 2
hey you.
Sshelly34213 3 years ago
The worst/best part of this is that you know he had to tell someone that he was not Claude (his name is correct on the tombstone), but died over in Vietnam anyway. That's what sucks so bad! Do you know that there are people out there who think this is one of the worst movies ever? I don't get it. It's the greatest!
kab1952 3 years ago 4
This movie is great, i don't get how people can hate it either, i guess some people just are not enlightened and see a reason for POINTLESS, pointless death.
FUCK THE ARMY

They need to make a sequel with Berger in Vietnam. It could easily be the greatest Vietnam war musical of all time.
MikeTooleK9S 3 years ago
he died...
where's the sequel in that?
Sshelly34213 3 years ago
It's an amazing song. Listen to all the words, feel the words. Listen to what they are really saying. So many dead men and boys for a pointless war.

We starve-look
At one another
Short of breath
Walking proudly in our winter coats
Wearing smells from laboratories
Facing a dying nation
Of moving paper fantasy
Listening for the new told lies
With supreme visions of lonely tunes
