  • that must have been filmed in october. theres no commotion or people walking into the cameraman.

  • Outstanding video Mr. Taylor! Very comprehensive and your editing restraint gives it a very authentic feel. Thank you.

  • Wacky Shack! And "Watch the tram car please!" Classic. Great Childhood memories!

  • Some of my favorites: The Flyer, Great White, Keystone Kops, Dante's Inferno, Raiders, Dracula's Castle + boat ride. And there was an awesome arcade there. I used to play the Pokerroll machines in the back. There was this realllly long stuffed snake on the ceiling I was saving up for, but never ended up getting enough.

I'll stop before the nostalgia kills me

  • A shady drug deal taking place at 1:30

So much great nostalgia from this vid. I used to spend half my summers along the Jersey seaboard at a place called Seagrove Camping Resort. They were the best days of my life. Thank you so much for posting this. Things like this are what make Youtube so great.

  • My absolute favorite was the Golden Nugget Mine Ride!!! If I didn't get to on that ride as a kid, it just wasn't summer for me...

  • @MusicGirlRWS The Golden Nugget track and cars were bought by Knobels Amusements in Pennsylvania. They are building a "Coal Mine" themed attraction with the old Golden Nugget track and cars...

  • Yeah, thanks for this! Great memories from my teenage years. Now I go with my own kids every summer!

  • thanks so much for this trip down memory lane. good summer times with family and friends this brings me back to. espess 1986.

  • i wish they would bring back those great prices on the boardwalk. it is total robbery now.

  • at 1:37 is that its a small worlds music?

  • Great video!!! I love the blouse and mullet on the baseball thrower at 5:15

  • wow this wildwood is nothing like wildwood today the rides someone of the rides that are still here are old and they're different rides it looks more fun back then :(

  • I was so happy to hear that Knoebels got the golden nugget now, that ride was really cool and it now gets to live on.

  • Who knows WILDWOOD NJ? This is about the week every year we'd spend at THE SHORE PLAZA MOTEL.

  • wow...1985 was my first time in wildwood and I remember those rides..someone had a steady hand with the huge video camera...also..I didn't know black people went to wildwodo back then. LOL...love the memores...I was 19 on my first time there

  • Hunts Pier in the mid-80s still looked mostly as it did in my childhood, except for a few hairdos.

  • Total drug deal going down with, Dude and the Tram Car driver!!! Lol!

  • wildwood 2011 MORE ASS ! [;

  • beautiful time capsule!

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Holy Shit I was actually their in 1986 and Im not even from Jersey!!!

  • OMG THE old great white!

  • BIG Italian family>36 first cousins. We all live in NJ. We all spend constant time together (at least every other week) and we're loud crazy and obnoxious. You've seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding? Yeah, that's us. MInus the Greek part. We go to Wildwood every single year together and stay at the same hotel. We have for 34 years. Family is an extremely important thing. I was raised on Dean Martin music. THAT is how New Jersey Italians should be. Fuck the Jersey Shore!

  • i think tht it looks kooler than now

  • @mysmiley33 yesh yesh yesh !

  • OMFG!!!! i go to wildwood every year, and its pretty shocking to c how it was like over 20 years ago!

  • lol the great white isnt even white now...

  • BE4 "JERSEY SHORE" AND THE "FIST PUMP" KILLED IT ALL

  • @MrDenaliking You got that right Jersey Shore the tv show is bullshit, it doesn't represent Italians or the Jersey beaches. I remember this beach in 86 and Ocean City as well no one then fist pumped

  • Great memories!

Were you the on-air personality "Mel Toxic" in the Philly market?

  • Drug deal at 1:32 ?!

  • This brings me back to such a wonderful and simpler time when I was a kid. I remember riding the rapids, the Whacky Shack and Keystone Cops and Golden Nugget. Douglss's pavilion actually had benches to sit in. These are some of the fondest memories, still, in my life. I love the shots of the fashion and mullets that symbolize the time. Funny, you can still hear a lot of the same 80's music being played there to this day!! Exellent video!!!

  • my year was 1987....there was sooooo many hot blondes . now their all third world grungy looking things down there. and i like how you got the tram!!! WATCH THE TRAM CAR PLEASE!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

  • Listen carefully in beginning, right after horrible song stops. guy in backgroung comments about something F*@ked Up. Funny S#%t!

  • Great video, it brought back so many memories. I kept looking to see if I recognized any of my family since we always went to WW!

  • I haven't been 'down the shore' in many years. Thanks for the memories.

  • Your video is now instantly my favorite! You have preserved a significant piece of local history very clearly. This is a wonderfully nostalgic and important video to those of us who actually remember all that great stuff on Hunt's pier that is no longer there.

Thank you very much for this well-shot, clear and steady footage of our memories... and the glimpses of the "real" 1980's hairstyles!!!

  • back when the jersey shore wasnt just a bunch of douchy and slutty teens

  • i sat on the bench at 5:53 today!

  • FUCK, I miss Dinosaur Beach. :c

  • watch the tram car... gun to my head

  • When "Amadeus" starts, I instantly think of "Adventureland".

  • At least there is still a Wildwood Boardwalk not too different from these shots. It's still quite recognizeable in 2010. I do miss Hunts,Dracula's Castle, the old merry go round building ,all the old theatres, Hunts across from the pier,HuntsCasino, the Blaker, the Shore, the old Nickles Arcade, Maple Leaf Gardens, all the old hotels raised for condos to name but a few things. Atlantic City fans have only pictures to remind them how much different that place was.

  • This was when the Yellow Tram cars were orange.

  • Hunt's Pier was the BEST! And the Golden Nugget was such a awesome ride!

  • Hunt's Pier was the BEST!

  • Those were the days man, after an early evening fucking teenie boppers (18+) under the boardwalk it was off to the Playpen for a night filled of drinking and whoring ...

    The 80's fucking rocked Babaganoosh

  • ah, the days before the wildwood boardwalk became a corporate cesspool.

  • I agree with afromenko. THIS is wildwood as I remember it as a kid. I just got back from vacation there, and my little girl had a blast but SOOO many things have changed. It's not the same as it used to be

  • wow, nice retrospective! :D

  • Great video! I used to throw out my arm on that damn speedball pitch !

  • i go every year but i wish hunts coulda stayed

  • omg sooooooooooooooooo different than now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks Mel for providing a nice walk down memory lane

  • Thanks for posting this.

Reminds me of Summers of my childhood.

  • so many memories.........

  • 7:50 you made a music video about wildwood

  • Great memories of all those summers I spent in and around Wildwood from 1972 to around 1985 when I moved to Atlantic City. I rode every one of those rides... every one! They were great... I miss that time, the people and the fun.

  • Great memories of all those summers I spent in and around Wildwood from 1972 to around 1985 when I moved to Atlantic City. I wrote every one of those rides... every one! They were great... I miss that time.

  • haha watch the tram car please, after 25 years

  • AHAHAHHA Those rides are now for little kids How they thinked this is scary and fast onnnnn 80's those clowns was scary

  • I tried getting some photos of the Hunt's Horror, but couldn't get back there so I took one of the rear from Morey's, and the front from the beach and a few of the Nugget from different angles. I went to Wildwood between 1980-1983, and Aug 95, June 96 and 98.

  • I experienced the original Hunt's Pier in the early 80's but failed to ride the Whacky Shack although I remember walking past the front at night watching the letters turn back and forth and the carts disappear into the unknown. However, I rode most of the other Hunt's dark rides includng the Nugget, Keystone Kops, Jungleland and Pirate Ship Skua as well as the Iron Horse Ghost Town RR train around the Flyer.

  • There was a ghost town in the back, behind Jungleland, and a tunnel behind Jungleland then the train went behind the Whacky Shack. It went around twice for a longer ride. The train was broke one time, probably 1983 and I was upset, I was 9 at the time. The coaches were parked back toward the tunnel and no locomotive.

  • What is there instead of the Whacky Shack now? The Whacky Shack was removed early 1996 during the remodeling into Dinosaur Beach, which closed permanently after 1998. The Catanoso brothers Anthony, Charles, William got the pier in 1995 and it was half shut that summer, kiddie rides on the front end, with a tall white wooden wall blocking access to the rest of the pier whiere the Whacky Shack-Hunt's Horror since '89, Golden Nugget, Log Flume, and Rapids were.

  • OMG when I was a kid all I remember was the Whacky Shack scaring me. I forget why. My mother always refered to it as the spook house. I also remember the Golden Nugget freaking me out but I forget why as well. I wish I could go back and relive these rides. Keystone Cops was a favorite of mine. I also reember a target game where when u would shoot stuff cool things would happen. I wish Wildwood was just like this, not a dead Hunt's Pier, condominiums takin over the town, and fewer doo wop motels.

  • OMG the Himalaya!! I LOVED that ride when I was a kid!!

  • I vaguely remember Hunt's pier, I was only 3 when it burnt down

  • Nice video. I still go to Wildwoods every year.

  • is this rly footage of wildwood in 1986? or is it like 3 years ago?

  • what is there instead of the wacky shack now?

  • best days of my life.

  • my lord..the good old days! captured on video forever. you dont know how good this was for me seeing this.

a brief virtual ride through the next to final year of hunts pier (golden nugget, the flyer, wow! used to ride those ALOT!!).

the old mouse trap roller coaster on mories pier. man...wildwood was just about dead a few years after this. thanks for the fond memories!!!!!

  • You should send a copy of this to the historical society! Can you imagine somebody watching this in 50+ years? Like the DVD about Wildwood that they put out several years ago. (My sister has it.)

  • Great memories! That was the year I was in college and I also made some 8mm movies, but not as good as this because film was expensive (as were video cameras back then)!

  • Is that Jerry's Pirate shirt !!!

  • What is the music used in the beginning and end? Great video by the way. Any year in the 80s i'm sure was great in Wildwood. I've had my great wildwood memories mid 90s.

  • west end girls by the pet shop boys

    rock me amadeus by falco

  • Thanks for the memories.

  • oh wow what an awesome video...brings back mnany many memories..i grew up in south jersey and remember going every summer, 86 was around the time i start going...ahh and towards the end when you show the kids ride i remember riding that..lol and aklso the balloon ride with my father...lol wow...great vid and awesome soundtrack..:)

  • 4 20 yeas my friends and family always go there

  • thanks for vid great family vacations at wildwood alot of good memories there been years since i've gone hope to go back soon. beach in the mornin good food in the day boardwalk at night

  • Hi, I love your video!! Awesome shots of everything I remember and love. My family went every summer, without fail, from 1986 to 2000. This is going to sound really crazy, but do you remember a ride (I think it was a scary ride) that had a man in a type of cage and he kind of looked like Michael Jackson. It wasn't on Hunt's Pier, I know that..not sure what pier it was on actually. I was only 6 or 7 years old so I might have just been imagining things...please let me know if you remember anything

  • Great videos, and camera work. Great mullet too(guy throwing baseballs). Its like you new all the right things to film like the 2 girls and the one had those awesome 80's glasses. Love it!!

  • i luv the great white!

  • ...memories... videos like these are priceless.

  • hey mel do have anything on the Castle? My friend and i made atribute page for Castle Dracula we are looking for videos and pictures if you know anyone who can help tell them to contact me please. Thanks.

  • lol jungleland looks like a ripoff of the jungle cruise in diseny :D

  • hahaha! henneke, ballon race and Musik Express!! i worked there this summer and it's still kinda the same!

  • I cant believe you didnt record the Sea Serpent!! Aghhh!!!

  • sure don't make amusement parks like they use to

  • Hey, Meltaylor! Thanks for posting this great video! It brought back some wonderful memories for me and my family!

  • golden nugget rules

  • This was the best times i remember. I grew up in Wildwood crest and had the best experiences there. Every summer I had lots of new friends and had so much fun. I was just there 2 months ago and it isnt the same. The ticket prices are much higher and things just arent like they use to be. Gee I miss the Good Ole days

  • im glad im only an hour away.

  • Watching the Golden Nugget section was like going back in time! Thanks for posting this...such great memories!

  • wow i've read all of these comments so far and alot of these people know quite a few things that happened back then at wildwood!!

  • wow great memories and dccc,s own mel toxic too

  • Thanks for this ... really hard to find video from the 80s... brings back some great memories of a time long past.

  • I miss that Wildwood, but you didn't get Castle Dracula, how could you miss that???

  • it looks like it was much better back then, but i wasn't born yet

  • trust me it wasnt any better. lots of fights drugs sex and back then you usually had to stay in a shity hotel... alot better now clean wise theres still drugs sex and fights.

  • wut ever happened to hunt peir?? its just go carts now

  • i was currently on the wildwood website looking at ride listengins and saw my favorite little kiddy ride was that seal logflume for little kids

anyone know what that was called and if they did shut it down? plz and thanks

    great vid!

  • Seal log flume was destroyed by a fire that started at the bumper cars.

  • thanks! i didnt know what happened to it

  • it was destroyed in the fire that broke out on mariners landing about a year ago.

  • this is pretty crazy that the new movie Adventureland is set in the same year (1986) at an amusement park and the same song - Rock Me Amadeus is the one they play over and over in the movie.

  • thats when wildwood used to be cool. none of the gangbanging darkies areound back then. You werent afraid to take your kids there.

  • you know when your on the log flume

and you look to the right,

theres like this really colorful ride

    abbanndoned near the beach

    its really colorful

    what is that

  • track, that ride was the LOST WORLD on Fun Pier, previously Devil's Inn prior to the late 70's.

  • Does anyone remember this ride? It was a"dark ride" with a cave theme. You rode about 3/4 of the way through... Then you had to get out, and literally crawl your way thru these cave tunnels... all the while you were being chased by these mad cave men. I remember going on this ride in like 77 with my older cousin... whats funny is, she ended up making a date with one of the cavemen after he scarred the shit out od this young 7 year old. lol

  • does anyone remember the tubes of terror ride? it was right near where draculas castle was

  • dude, yes..thinking back I can't believe this "ride" was legal..remember they'd make you put big ol' sweatshirts on and stuff to avoid friction burns? I always thought I'd snag my braces on something on the way down...but I still went!

  • how long has hunts peir been gone? i know the shell of the golden nugget is still standing ,i wish i could ride it with my kids........what a shame

  • Actually they just tore down the shell of the Golden Nugget last month. Sorry to tell ya. :-(

  • this was when wildwood was WILDWOOD

  • i agree

  • erro anny bory rant to get you'r pam reh......

  • Its kinda funny seeing the music express with a different "theme" than today's Judas Priest one. I pray to god that they don't replace it with a Jonas Brothers or Hannah Montana backdrop. But I guess they'll do that eventually to try and appeal to the "younger" crowd.

  • Its a shame Hunts pier is no more, it looks like the rides on it kicked more ass than some of the rides that are around to this day.

  • @pie453 The skyscraper is in Hunt's pier

  • i live 5 bolcks away from this.....its my hometown

  • Is it quiet in the winter months? I was told its so quiet they turn off the traffice lights!

I worked there during the summers of 1995, 1996 and 1999.

I wa sa student from Ireland and spent 3 summers in Wildwood.

    I worked in Makcs pizzas

  • ohh yeah its real quite there the traffics lights do go off in most intersections......not the main ones though

  • HAHA, a MARBOLO AD!!! lol, especially at a family park, xD

I know it was aloud back then, but not anymore... lol

PS - Read my 2 other comments, lol

  • WAS THAT ACTUAL WATER FALLING ON YOU? lol, your cam also read my other comment bellow

  • I bet you had one of the best cameras at the time, cause it looks pretty nice, lol

  • I love this thank you love you Golden Nugget bye bye

  • Thanks so much for posting this, it REALLY brought me back to a wonderful time in my childhood. I remembered every ride and game so clearly...even the Speed Pitch cage. Thanks again.

  • omg i go to wildwood everu year i love it

  • oh wait this was from ages ago.... i was bout to say... Hunts Peir??

  • what? hunts peir??? wild wood doesn't have that. ethier this was ages ago or this is from some other place

  • LMAO!!! XD

  • lmaooooooo omg thts waht me && my sister saidd ! >:O ughh its so anoyying >:O !!!

  • i go every year and that would be funny

  • hunts pier???

    since when lol

  • Awesome, awesome video.

I've always wondered what that stringy white thing that big green dragon guy from Dante's Inferno is holding. Seems like he's been holding it forever lol.

  • What a sweet slice of nostalgia.

Amazing you had the foresight to capture the look and sound of what was 'normal' then, and is so different now. I look back at my photos from years past, and I'm sad I didn't have that ability.

My favorite part of the video has to be the dude in the Ralph Lauren turquoise sweater on the raft ride. Priceless!

  • Golden Nugget Purchased by Knoebels!

After much speculation Amusement Today revealed on January 26 that the Golden Nugget track was purchased by Knoebels Amusement Resort. yay

  • lol...great memories, thanks.

  • Hey I'm the guy taking the pictures at the computer photo store

  • old

  • wow the good old days when WildWood had so many cool Dark rides.

Thanks for putting this on youtube it made my day.

  • My City and the Summer I was born...Doesn't get any better

  • this video is awesome, this is when wildwood was great and my kids think its good now. I am sending this to everyone I know from back in the day. Love it.

  • that robot thing looks fun lol (between 3:30-3:45)

  • I was born and raise in wildwood. althought I have moved a year ago, I concider myself a native of there. That video took me right back to my childhood. I was only 7 years old and remember every ride and landmark that you had in your video. awesome job!

  • hunts looks awesome. its too bad i was real little when they took it away. & dantes dungeon is still there!!

  • Looking at this video reminds me how Wildwood had changed. The rides look so archaic compared to what they are now. And it was only 22 years ago. Did you notice that they were building it looked like one of the water slides. Great video! We've come a long way.

  • they had the music express back then!

  • I remember...

    Those haircuts,

    those sunglasses (girls were wearing),

    the speed pitch game,

    the 'computerized' handwriting analysis,

    and of course, Der Kommissar.

Summer of '86 was the year before I started high school, and my haunts were LBI, Seaside, and Pt. Pleasant.

    Thanks for the memories !!!!

  • Der Kommissar, at least After the Fire's cover of it was '82. Surprised it was still getting serious play in '86.

  • this is like steel ofrce alittle

  • looks difernt now

  • OUTSTANDING video. My family used to go to Wildwood every summer as I was growing up (shout out to the old Bali Hi Motel!), and this brings back all the good times (80s hairstyles included). The shots of the Golden Nugget, in particular, almost bring a tear to my eye. Thanks for posting it!

  • I love it. I wish Wildwood was still like this. Most rides reminded me of Disney rides.

  • thanks for the video

  • Oh my GOD! This video bought back so many memories! Especially the Mine ride. I remember you use to get a wooden coin after you got off the ride. Love those Wildwood days!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this video! We used to go to Wildwood every year when I was a kid. I was 16 in 1986. I remember ALL of the rides and most of the places shown in the film. When I was little, I used to LOVE to ride the Golden Nugget on Hunt's Pier, and the little cars on a track too. In the early 70s, there used to be a ride (I think it was a train) that used to go under the pier/boardwalk - anyone out there remember anything about it? Thanks again for sharing the memories!

  • tomjacobs - it looks like we're the same age, and my family went every year, too. The Golden Nugget was my favourite. ;o)

It sounds like you're thinking of "Ghost Junction," which was also called "The Iron Horse." I only went on it a couple times when I was very young, so I don't remember it well. However you can find photos of it on laffinthedark . com and mrboardwalk . net

  • It sounds like you're thinking of "Ghost Junction," which was also called "The Iron Horse." I only went on it a couple times when I was very young, so I don't remember it well. However you can find photos of it on laffinthedark . com and mrboardwalk . net

  • yo at 1:20 that ride is now called the flitzer rite?

  • ok. making you ALL JEALOUS!!! We're heading down to Wildwood for the second time this year! Hunts only has gocarts on it. mariners is working good, so is morey's. sportland is only go carts. the shopping pier (fathest north) is totally empty. fun pier looks terrible but is being developed by the morey's. loved this video!!!!

  • Terrific video. It brought back memories from my childhood vacations in the early 1960s. I remember only having a couple of dollars for dinner and rides each night. We kids would buy a steak sandwich or pizza and a Coke and head off for Hunt's. At that time, a couple of dollars would last all night. Wasn't there another pier called Marine Pier or something like that? Thanks for the memories!

  • Fantastic video. I remember riding the Golden Nugget with my Dad when I was a little boy in the 60s. And the Hunt's rollercoaster was a WW landmark. I don't understand why Hunt's Pier has been allowed to decay for so many years. If the Morey family now owns it, why don't they develop it? They've done a wonderful job on the 2 other piers that they own. Everything has to change. I'm just glad that WW manages to keep reinventing itself and not go into permanent decline (like Coney Island).

  • nice quality video for 86

  • i love wildwood

  • I didn't hear one "Watch the tramcar, please"

  • I HATE THAT!!

  • haha yea that gets you in the mood for the boardwalk man tht old lady is annoying

  • I heard the pier is re opening in a fiew years

  • WOW! The Flyer! It was my very first roller coaster. Thanks for posting this video.

  • 45 tickets for $10??? Wow how the times have changed

  • ya they have
