If I remember correctly, he got traded away because before Game 4 with the Lakers down 3-0 to the Jazz, Van Exel yelled 'Cancun', instead of 'Lakers' after the end of a practice, and West gave him away to Denver for that sin.

NVE was clutch, but Magic won more games at or near the buzzer. LAKERS SHOULD HAVE NEVER TRADED EDDIE JONES FOR GLEN RICE!!! He was the one most deserving of winning a ring because not only was he a complete player offensively and defensively, but a TRUE TEAM PLAYER as well. I didn't mind the Lakers moving Van Exel and Ceballos since Fisher and Horry were definite upgrades, but Eddie was the only one they should've held onto. If they wanted to rid themselves of inconsistent Elden Campbell, they should've found another way (like for a draft pick or two)...

I remember watching this squad, I was just getting into basketball when i was 12. This was a fun squad, but they got swept by the fucking jazz who went to the finals and lost to the jazz. The only thing that sucked. I remember the fans were booing the lakers after they traded jones for rice. kobe was also hella critisized
