Sometimes I always wonder what it would have been like if Magic had stayed on one more year (after his retirement, AGAIN) and thrown lobs to Shaq and no looks to Kobe. That would have been fun to watch!
ive watch this video for many of number of times and i still wish they would have kept the 98 laker squad...might have won that championship againts the bulls and michael jordan
Daaaaaaamn that was an exciting squad!!! Revamping the Showtime for a while! Young Shaq and Kobe looking amazing, plus Eddie Jones and Nick the Quick... Good times...
can't wait to play with this team in 2k12. i was born in 1997 so i didn't see this growing up. didn't know kobe came of the bench. but got to seem them when they did the three peat
Growing up on these guys was the best...nick the quick was the man. I loved hearing chick put games in the 'refrigerator'...1997 5th grade...Roosevelt roughriders.
If I remember correctly, he got traded away because before Game 4 with the Lakers down 3-0 to the Jazz, Van Exel yelled 'Cancun', instead of 'Lakers' after the end of a practice, and West gave him away to Denver for that sin.
As for old school, shows how long Kobe's been with the Lakers now. At 32, he ain't 'The Kid' anymore that's for sure.
@SSW8040 LOL WTF? Why would they have John Stockton? And of all the great guards, why John Stockton specifically? And what was so great about AC Green? Why not say, "what if they still had Sam Perkins?" , or some other random decent player they previously had?
No offense, but I nominate this for "most pointless what if scenario ever".
@TheLAKERSareGodsTeam lol I just noticed the comment. Nah dude, go back and peep the last 2 albums he had some heat on there. That track he did with John Legend om Khaled proves he still got it, you heard it?
Who would of thought Kobe the Kid would end up being the best player in the world right now. Eddie Jones, Nick The Quick, I remember this so vividly. Trading Nick away was such a stupid move, but w.e Lakers ended up eventually winning 3 in a row.
After watchin this vid for like the 8th time, I've gotta say nice work ExpiredPineapples..EVERY dunk is right on time with the beat..Excellent work bro..
damn these days were exciting, eddie and nick the quick were my 2 favorites, and they both got traded.. lol. nick was true point guard, could drive n dish n make layups, was never a big fan of fisher, im glad we got farmar n shannon brown to take over.
Man I remember this like it was yesterday, when the Lakers were a young high flying team! Shaq, Sean Rooks, Elden, Corie Blount, Fox, Jones, Van Exel, Kobe, Fisher, Horry and Chick Hearn! Good times.
this team could have won a championship!! sorry michael! but it's the truth nick and eddie at the backcourt while kobe, horry and shaq at the front could have beaten the bulls if the lakers went 2 the finals that year!
I love both pg... I still remember NVE game tying three, as well as the game winning three against the Spurs in the playoffs (and don't forget about his celebration too hehe) and it's one of my greatest moments as a Lakers fan... but Magic is the greatest there ever was... I don't even think NVE would be comfortable comparing himself to Magic. There should be no doubt that Magic is the greatest PG in the history of the NBA...
i loved this team. although i hated trading away nick and eddie, we had to get a little older and allow kobe to grow into the player he is today. i remember how they used to chant edddiee edddie at the forum and staples, even after we traded him. and don't forget, we got j.r. reid in that trade too! =P lol
I agree with you Magic is arguably the best laker p.g of all time. I'd rather argue that Nick the Quick is though. Better three point shooter , freethrow shooter or shooter period . Just as good a passer and he was more clutch. oh and he never hurt his team by retiring prematurly because of aids.if he had played in the 80s with kareem and big game James who knows how many titles he could have won.
good argument but magic is the greatest pg in nba history!!! period is a fact nobody at his height and size could do what he did at the pg position!!! u see they tried to put lebron james aa a pg!! and well u saw the results!!
^ Little kid. First of all, NVE was traded because of a long list of stupid stunts. Second, you should compare FG% between he and Magic. Third, you're wrong on "more clutch". NVE was clutch, but Magic won more games at or near the buzzer. I liked Van Exel, but a guy like him wouldn't have lasted on the Lakers of the 80s as long as he did in the 90s (and he wore out his welcome even then).
LAKERS SHOULD HAVE NEVER TRADED EDDIE JONES FOR GLEN RICE!!! He was the one most deserving of winning a ring because not only was he a complete player offensively and defensively, but a TRUE TEAM PLAYER as well. I didn't mind the Lakers moving Van Exel and Ceballos since Fisher and Horry were definite upgrades, but Eddie was the only one they should've held onto. If they wanted to rid themselves of inconsistent Elden Campbell, they should've found another way (like for a draft pick or two)...
@PeekaPeep elden campbell was mad inconsistent, kinda like pau gasol in the 2010-2011 playoffs and oh by the way Glen Rice was an outstanding 3pt shooter when he came to the Lakers. He lit that shit up, like he did back in the day when he had the flattop fade in miami. man dont you think i went forgetting shit. and van exel is the bomb, the only thing bad was his attitude
Eddie Jones was absolutely better than Rice. The Lakers lost that 97 series against Jazz because Kobe shot 2 air balls in crunchtime. His second air ball was a force shot. He could have pass the ball to Eddie beside him and a lot better than him in shooting three's.
they would have been more dominant but in 97-98 shaq, and kobe were not at their peaks. shaq was super dominant in 2000, and now kobe is the most dominant of all those players. I remember watching this squad, I was just getting into basketball when i was 12. This was a fun squad, but they got swept by the fucking jazz who went to the finals and lost to the jazz. The only thing that sucked. I remember the fans were booing the lakers after they traded jones for rice. kobe was also hella critisized
I can´t see another guy with 7'1 do that before, and acttualy who? Shaq just move like some PG at the ATTACK! and slam like no other... SHAQ LIKE NO OTHER... the LEGEND of NBA. Top 5... Magic, Jordan, Bird, Shaq and Wilt...
Thank you shaq... to play at my great LAKERS!
And BACK to finish your carrer! LAST GAME EVER #34!
eddie jones really deserve that all three championships, they could have let him stay, the lakers didnt get anything from glen rice. eddie also deserve it in 2005 but the pistons made an upset and leaving eddie still with no championship experiences. i believe eddie is better than kobe. he is much more of a team player.
@darkgrave07 you're not going to get any thumbs up on here saying eddie jones is better than kobe bryant, but its a nice thought. eddie jones definetely had tha FINGERRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.....LE :)
I still wish the Lakers would have won the championship with Eddie Jones, Nick Van Exel and Elden Campbell on the squad. That team was one postseason away and the Lakers gave up on them. Of course, after they were traded, they brought in Phil Jackson and the Lakers won three-straight championships. Still think they would have won with Eddie on the team.
If that team had a better coach they would've made some noise in the West. Utah ran one play during the playoffs in '97 and '98 and they swept the Lakers both years. Couldn't stop Stockton and Malone's pick and roll.
Wow ..i never knew shaq had all those moves. he actually ran and did a fast break point.. he actaully did a layup.. wow. look at the guy now. he only slams it. whatev. he's still a dominiant player..WOW i miss kobe when he did all those dope moves..he still does themm. on occasions though..GO LAKER GO!
goddamn. fuckin a' that's really seeming like a long time ago. nothing more thrilling that seeing 320 pound Shaq lead a give n' go fast break!
all these years later it just re-affirm, Shaq in his day (dayum i can't believe i just said that) - he was fuckin' scary, playin' like was just a big ol' kid. shit, he still is.
OMFG is that Shaq pushing off Chris Dudley? It was a good move but he took it too far when he shoved him off. I wonder if he got a technical for that one?
shaq, kobe, horry, and specially jones and van exel(my first nba jersey was his; note: im from brazil), the forum, great times.. too bad they didnt win the title. i remember those days perfectly. hey, anyone remember the very first game in the 1997-1998 season, the game versus jazz in the forum, when kobe made his first great game? wow!! i stopped watching nba 5 years ago. i got tired of bad and irresponsible players(and people). those were the maig era of nba, along with the 80's.
Kobe doesnt dunk like that anymore because he's had several knee surgeries. He started getting it back last season but then he had another knee surgery this season so don't be expecting any of this lol
Anybody remember the time Eddie Jones took off from about 20ft away from the hoop to do a finger role? The Lakers became boring to watch when they traded Jones and Van Exel although they probably did become a better team.
man this was the team...i remember these times high scoring and kiLLing teams with scores of 130 and kobe the 6th man...if they had phiL at this time...daym unLimited rings
Dude you've got respect for the old school...your vids are tight, ill music, great sh!t. Lifelong laker fan, I remember some of these games. We were SO deep that year. People forget Cedric and NVE. And when's the last time you saw Shaq move like that?
MAN!!! THIS WAS THE TEAM!!!! This was my favorite Laker team. Horry still had his Will Smith haircut too! dafr3shprinc3, I miss them too. I was heartbroken when Van was traded first. Then when Jones was too..it was horrible. But Kobe probably wouldn't be where he is today if those trades didn't happen.
expiredpineapples, you mentioned Mario Bennett!, how about doing a mix of him... probably would last 20 seconds, but i loved that guy, hehe. I wonder what was of him.
Sometimes I always wonder what it would have been like if Magic had stayed on one more year (after his retirement, AGAIN) and thrown lobs to Shaq and no looks to Kobe. That would have been fun to watch!

Now imagine if they kept A.C. Green and had him start.
The lineup would have been.
Ceballos and Green upfront
Shaq at center
Stockton and Jones in the back.
Reserves being Kobe, Fisher Bennett, and Cambell.

EJ was traded b/c shaq wanted him out (plus he didn't wanna be there anymore). Management wanted to invest in Kobe. Van Exel was just a cancer.

great f'n post - lakers may have not been the best in the mid-90's but, boy, were they fun to watch!!!

holy shit, at 1:56, shaq with the faaaaake!
goddamn. fuckin a' that's really seeming like a long time ago. nothing more thrilling that seeing 320 pound Shaq lead a give n' go fast break!
all these years later it just re-affirm, Shaq in his day (dayum i can't believe i just said that) - he was fuckin' scary, playin' like was just a big ol' kid. shit, he still is.

OMFG is that Shaq pushing off Chris Dudley? It was a good move but he took it too far when he shoved him off. I wonder if he got a technical for that one?

shaq, kobe, horry, and specially jones and van exel(my first nba jersey was his; note: im from brazil), the forum, great times.. too bad they didnt win the title. i remember those days perfectly. hey, anyone remember the very first game in the 1997-1998 season, the game versus jazz in the forum, when kobe made his first great game? wow!! i stopped watching nba 5 years ago. i got tired of bad and irresponsible players(and people). those were the maig era of nba, along with the 80's.

best video. i cant imagine fat shaq moving anywhere this days.
boy dont you wish you could go back in time. for some reasong kobe doesnt dunk like that anymore. and he should, makes the games more exiting.
radiokid8 5 years ago
Kobe doesnt dunk like that anymore because he's had several knee surgeries. He started getting it back last season but then he had another knee surgery this season so don't be expecting any of this lol

Anybody remember the time Eddie Jones took off from about 20ft away from the hoop to do a finger role? The Lakers became boring to watch when they traded Jones and Van Exel although they probably did become a better team.

Dude you've got respect for the old school...your vids are tight, ill music, great sh!t. Lifelong laker fan, I remember some of these games. We were SO deep that year. People forget Cedric and NVE. And when's the last time you saw Shaq move like that?
Keep makin these, dude, i'm gettin nostalgic.

I wonder what was of him.
saturndual32 5 years ago
20 seconds! Only if I replayed the clip of Bennett in the mix 5 times. I loved Mario in college but I don't have any clips of him.
