Just listening to music like this makes me not care about all the stress of my day, and makes me want to crawl in front of my tv and play some classic 16 bit titles.
Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great games such as Secret Of Mana. It’s up on my channel ORTmusic to check out and download!
That would have been a lot to put in a single comment. And you guys get the point anyway. Back then, video-games wern't multi-million productions like today. So they were free to try anything that sounded even remotely fun. Now, we only get shooters.
Well, I must admit that I was running around like an idiot aimlessly trying to get back to the main village at this part in the game, but hey, the music made it seem fun.
I remember this song on a sleep-over I had with my bi friend 15 years ago. he wasn't bi then, but this song reminds me of us killing the infinite spawning slimes for xp @ 3 am !!
@MikeGartner You could easily copy all genesis games soundtracks on a Snes and It would sound ok, but you could never in a million years copy some of the Snes games music to a genesis. Because it can produce much better sound effects than the genesis' soundcard it is therefore "better". Genesis soundcard sounds like old DOS games, whereby Snes soundcard has way more advanced sound capabilities. And yes, Snes soundcard was developed by Sony, but it still doesn't change the fact that it's better.
@lustikurre That analysis is just out and out wrong. Both cards are different, true. But, the Genesis, in my opinion, always offered more bass. It's a matter of taste. Could this Secret of Mana tune be reproduced on the Genesis exactly. Probably not. But, there are so many examples of excellent Genesis tunes that I don't think could be reproduced on the SNES.
You know, it's amazing what 8-bit and 16-bit composers did with what they had. They knew how to fully utilize the meager, primitive instrumentation afforded them by the technological limitations of the time. It's too bad that modern game music doesn't seem to have as much great material as the oldies.
Well, sometimes minimalism can inspire a level of resourcefulness and creativity that people don't realize they had. I think that's something a lot of modern games lack, and is part of the reason they don't seem to have that same feeling of passion that 90's era stuff did.
@scottcoleatgmail EXACTLY. Sometimes, you get a more modern composer that actually cares and puts that passion back in. When that happens, given the better instrumentation games have now, the results can be absolutely mind-blowing. Otherwise, it SOUNDS okay, but it FEELS kinda dead, or at least like it's living on life support or borrowed time.
@darkemg Phantasy Star 4 wasn't better than any of those RPG's but it was very good and was Genesis only. SNES was a way better system in my opinion but Phantasy Star IV was an incredible console RPG in it's own right. Just giving credit where it's due.
Platforming: Tied my ass. Even if you are blind and go with the "Sonic and Mario are tied", Genesis had nothing on the same level of Donkey Kong. And the SNES had THREE of them. Heard about Megaman X?
RPG: Please. Final Fantasy IV ALONE was (still is) better than any Phantasy Star or Shining Force. Yes, even the newer ones.
Fighting: PS1 and DC weren't 16-bit consoles. So its irrelevant.
Shooting: Zero Wing was good, but not nearly as good as UN Squadron or Gradius.
Lol@ Donkey kong being good. Even the creator doesn't even like it. Ever heard of Vector Man? Ever beat it? probably not. FFIV= RPGs for first graders. Shining force took actual strategy, Not my fault people thought it was hard. and still, Street fighter Alpha 2 still isn't an SNES exclusive so stop with that.
Lol@ Donkey kong being good. Even the creator doesn't even like it. Ever heard of Vector Man? Ever beat it? probably not. Final Fantasy = RPG for first graders. Shining force took actual strategy, not my fault people thought it was hard. Street fighter Alpha 2 still isn't an SNES exclusive so stop with that.
@darkemg Donkey Kong was graphically amazing, but so so as a game. Gunstar heroes matches Donkey Kong. RPG's will always be a matter of opinion. With regards to shooters, the Genesis easily blows the SNES out of the water with Thunder Force III and IV and MUSHA, just to name a few.
Damn i remember when I first found this snes game it was in the garbage with no battery to save it and everytime I turn it off I would have to make a new game
@southstar44 You can find a picture of this on ebay. Check in SoM auctions that have everything. It was one of the inserts and was fairly large if I remember correctly.
@southstar44 this picture with the music in backround reminds me of freedom. when i was 15 and i played this game the first time i was into this world of mana. it was like i felt the power in my hands to save the world mana.
i know my english isn't good, but right now i had a big requirement to tell my emotions. :D
simply amazing... my fav track from Secret of Mana... and i gotta say that Secret of Mana if probably the single greatest game made to date... amazing story line... multiple endings... and just a fun game...
ohhhh i know this is the first part and all... i love this game... i spent 80% of my childhood trying to beat it... lol but yeah i thought this one had more than one... my bad =]
The feeling that something isn't quite right out there...monsters are teeming around even though it still looks like a peaceful and pleasant afternoon.
man, this reminds me of some twins i knew in Junior high. someone told me they died. memories... this also reminds me of the hard enemies of the game, they kicked my ass all the time. I need to play this again!!
the SNES was brand new when i was born im 16 years old so yeah i grew up with a controller in my hand... ever since i was 2... the first game i remember playing was Super Mario World... just hearing this brings back fond memories of my childhood... and honestly.. it brings tears to my eyes..
Riboshom: Yeah, I love all the vgm you put down, lol, but in my opinion, Chrono Cross's OST for PS1 and any Legend of Zelda game has the greatest OSTs ;) What do you think?
@Riboshom dont forget super mario world, earthbound, link to the past, tetris attack, super mario rpg, etc. damn fuck that its the best music ever lol
Fuck yes, fuck yes! This game is so amazing but I haven't beat it yet. I played it in middle school and then again in college but I have yet to beat it. This game has a very unique feel to it. It makes you feel like you're a part of something REALLY SPECIAL!
PwnStarr: Yes, it's a really great game. The SNES was glutted with awesome RPGs: Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Legend of Zelda, Mario RPG, ....... the list goes on! I think the SNES is the best console ever XD
This song is one of the best Secret of Mana songs Ive heard. Played many RPGs back then but never got a chance to play this great RPG. Glad I finally got it over amazon...gonna try it out...love this song!
Time is a wheel... and flows as a river, if you're lucky you'll reach 40 too... what's important is HOW you spend your time...
And I consider myself proud and thankful to the destiny that I was born in '79 and that I could live my childhood in the '80s, my teen years in the '90s and then my 20's till now, I would NOT ever change my 29 years with your 21, you have lost great years...
Aah... how many memories... I feel old... and I'm only 29... ;P
"Into the Thick of It" is the best song from SoM's BGM and one of my favourite videogame songs, is something inspired... almost mystical... like all the epic game that is Secret of Mana (really epic).
However many other songs from SoM's OST are great, are magic. And my favourite songs are:
Can't explain why, exactly, except to say that it's the musical representation of the theme, setting, and ambiance of the game. I actually liked the title given it by another author better,
