"Gonna write you a letter, gonna mail it today"..... If McCusker was writing that today, it would have to say "Gonna type you an email, gonna hit send straight away"
Back in the early 80s' my Dad used to own a small Sony recording cassette player the same as Ross is holding up to his ear towards the end of this video. It was a heavy beast of a thing, and back those days wasn't actually called a "Walkman". It was bigger than a "brick" mobile phone & had a tinny little speaker on it, ran on 4 x AA batteries (and no doubt cost a small fortune!)
Hearing this makes me want to embrace "yobbo culture". So put down your ipods, put on some stubby shorts, go get a slab of VB and spend 1 day on the balcony at Sydney Harbour getting pissed off your head while your mates cook snags on the barbie and organise hookers for a "night to remember" .... Waiting for the Countdown ..... In the summer of 81" !!!!!!!!!
First ever cassette in my house was Chemistry, Didn't get a tape player till Xmas 1982. Had to listen at my neighbours place (P.s they also had the only phone in my street).
@TheNiKobrew Mate , I remember the times, V8 XB Wagon, my girlfreind, my mates hand full of cassettes , no mobile phone , no computers , lots of cruising , actually stopping somewhere to meet up with other mates , actually meeting NEW people face to face ...............mate the memories just keep coming huh !
@nzoz1981 Well the "yeah" instead of a "Yes" explains a lot about you already...such a shame someone that has such intertesting videos is so cold and rude....i never understood the behavior of creatures like you...
I can almost remember every one of my Summers in the 80s. Now, I can hardly remember what I did yesterday. It is not age -- it is the fast pace we live in. Too hurried, too much technology, too much this. . . to much that . . . to much . . .
@fallschirmjager0000 Thanks for that, faeces gurgler. I would be honoured to still be revered in 25 years as a cunt. As I've always said, "cunts are useful".LMFAO at you.
25 years from now, today's 20 somethings will be saying how great everything was now. Lol I was reading Livy and Roman geezers were saying the same thing back then.
I'm a young 20 year old bloke, and todays music, movies, culture are a complete joke and waste of time. Looking just at the music, '81 must of been some rocking times.
@ultrachasersfan Ultimatley you are 100% correct!! Luckily you have you tube to look back what you missed out. Now, when I was a kid........... Well, we didn't want to listen to anything older then because the new music was the BUSINESS!!
@ultrachasersfan was a fantastic time to be a kid or teen. Spielberg and Lucas gave us summertime blockbusters and pinball parlours became video arcades. video shops begin popping up in 81-82. alot of new things happened. yes to have the privilege of experiencing 2 very different eras is a huge blessing rather than being born in the matrix, perpetually jacked in to technology at every turn.
You have got it man, that's it; anger, dumb pointless anger...I mean what are they sticking glasses in each others faces for? Is it Iraq, or Afghanistan? Why do the young people buy hate marketing so cheaply?
it is hard to express how different life felt back then, i was a countdown kid and 9 years old. there is something special about the late 70s and early 80s, kind of like the late 60s in that there just was an explosion of exciting things like Star Wars, Video arcades Etc. was the best time to be a kid. the music was innocent but honest. late 80s is where it started going wrong
I remember the summer of 81, is the year I arrived in Sydney from El Salvador, I arrived in Coogee Beach (in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs) when Coogee was kind of a bit of working class suburb, used to go to Selinas they used to play this song a lot.
hahaha I remember the summer of 81 watching trevor chappel bowl under-arm Oh and potato cakes where like 5cents and you could feed the whole family on 5bucks and Beta recorders where the best also my dad complaining about the petrol costing something like 33cents a litre
1981... ah sweet memories indeed, met the love of my life, loved my job bought a brand new XD Falcon Fairmont Ghia..... God I wish I could go back then. Thanks for the memories Ryan.
First time I heard this song was of course in 1981 and I was delivering mail in Dalkieth , Western Australia. Had my Walkman on, peddling my trusty bike, shovin peoples mail in their letterboxes. @veritas6464 . . . cheers mate, a combo of innocence and some wonderful new cultural shifts, but the Yanks are only doing what the Poms, the Cloggers, the Spanish et al had been up to for the previous 600 plus years, it's the anger and the hatred that freaks me out about this wide brown land, just like most westernised countries, young men going absolutely apeshit with full on violence for no valid reason whatsoever. Love your channel and your background yarn . . . peace man !!

It was the era. At that time Australia was mostly catering for an Australian and British market. But if you youtube Daddy Cool doing Eagle Rock about 10 years earlier you won't recognise the lead vocalist. :-)

Wow....the memories come flooding back. I havent heard this song in such a long time. Mondo Rock was one of the great aussie live bands of the 80's....BRING BACK THE LIVE MUSIC !!

Our lives our "hijacked" by technology.
When I was in highschool I never really
caught on to computers until the "net"
arrived in 1995. Sometimes I wish the net
never came on, because just like alcohol
or smoking, it is JUST as addictive and just
like you I spend nearly 50% - 60% of my day
GLUED to the screen downloading stuff.
