I can excuse the lack of scientific perfection in this movie. Even though we know a lot more about Mars now, you could set this movie in a "Red Planet" setting where man has already sent automated vehicles to Mars and started the terraforming process. It's a fun movie!
good think we bring guns to what ever planet we go to. cuz if we find any living life form, we can kill it. i fuck'n HATE America-Hating, Liberal gun-haters. damn sissy-liberals
Next time I go diving, I want his tanks! While driving across America a while ago on some interstate motorway. It struck me while going 80mph, about the first people that journeyed across the same places. It was dark and cold but I had my G.P.S., heater and comfort. They, they had nothing and probably a less then adequate map traveling 6 to 10 miles a day, living off their meager rations and what they could kill. No doctors, helicopter to save them, etc. Amazing really.
This 60's film shows how important space exploration really is. During this time no one ever would had believed that the Martian daytime sky is generally a butterscotch (yellow/brown) color and pink/red of sunset and sunrise. This was confirmed by Mars Pathfinder in 1997.
Yeah, it is extremely important, space exploration. As i watch this movie, I can hardly help but think about what we now know about Mars, even as I wonder what the first humans on Mars will experience.
The real question is how would Earth life adapt to the gravity of Mars, which is about 38% the strength of that on Earth.
Would they experience physiological problems like rapid bone mass reductions at rates ten times worse than osteoporosis in the elderly along with muscular atrophy and neurological problems over time?
Astronaut crews can live and work in total weightlessness for extended periods -- that was proven on the Skylab and Mir missions. The International Space Station currently under construction will have exercise facilities to counteract the debilitating effects of zero-g, like loss of bone mass, muscle atrophy, and cardiovascular degeneration. I assume they'll have some sort of gym equipment on Mars as well. The question is -- when will we go there? I'm ready right now!
ck out the old gun ..i myself would want a ak-47 ..enjoy..ben

"dangerous gravitational pull of Mars" FTW

Now why did they abandon ship? The ship keeps orbiting Mars for days or weeks, before Draper destroys it by radio signal.
