A MacRumors forum member discovered that you can actually get free ringtones directly inside iTunes by just changing around a file extension. All official purchased ringtones have the .M4R extension, so all you have to do is rename any AAC file to a M4R file to get it to show up in iTunes under Ringtones. Sync to your phone and you're done. To delete the ringtones, you may have to go into the Ringtones folder under your iTunes music directory. Zero cents beats 99 cents any day.
hey mines not working. i downloaded 7.4 and everything...but the ringtones part isnt showing up. "Ringtones" doesnt show up under library....but it shows up when i plug in my iphone. please reply i needa know lol
This is NOT cool, this is Apple RIPPING YOU OFF FOR ANOTHER $1. If you use any other app to put ringtones on your iphone itunes will delete them even if you DON'T sync ringtones. I am an apple fan, and I say: SCREW APPLE. They're bilking you, $1 at a time. Don't be a SUCKER, stay away from Apple!
I agree. I liketheir products, though. I bought an iPod Video 2 weeks ago. I don't regret me buying this baby since I bet that the new iPod Classic will have some bugs that Apple will have to address prompting them to release a new updated version a year from now, just what they did on the iPod 5G. 'Til then, I'll be cherishing my iPod and 2 years from now, when the battery goes down, that's the time I'll buy an 80GB iPod Classic. Free from defects. ;)
it is cool...until you realize for every ringtone you have to pay $1 to "convert" it INTO a ringtone on top of the $1 you pay for the song...EVEN IF YOU ALREADY HAVE THE SONG!!!!! lol...anything to make money...im just waiting until i fall for it like an idiot and then they announce that all the songs i have are now FREE FOR EVERYONE lol. i know its coming. just like the price drop that they had "no plans" for happens wut...3 months later.
Honestly its a good deal, people have and will continue to hack it to get free ringtones but your average joe is used to buying ringtones for $2.50 and that doesn't even include the actual full song. on the iPhone you get the full song plus a ringtone version for 2 bucks...Continued below...
And this isnt apple being greedy, its all legal stuff, if they let you convert any song into a ringtone then music labels would call foul play because they license the music for ringtone use too. Thats why you can't convert any song, just some.
That is amazingly cool; when will they release itunes 7.4? because I'm going to order the ipod classic (160 GB, yay!) this weekend, and I need the new version to use it

I guess these people have never heard of video capture directly on-machine. Like Snapz Pro can do.
