Good stuff, makes me want to record the entire series of 5-0, edit together a one hour car chase as an episode, except I am way to busy to do that at the moment, so it will have to wait until my retirement, great to see all of those lovely old 60's and 70's cars.
Good stuff, makes me want to record the entire series of 5-0, edit together a one hour car chase as an episode, except I am way to busy to do that at the moment, so it will have to wait until my retirement, great to see all of those lovely old 60's and 70's cars :(
Seeing those old cars in car chases just reminds me of how much horsepower in relation to how little or no handling, stability and traction control they had.
This is a bunch of miscellaneous car chase clips edited together from different episodes, but the actual "Five-0" chases were equally fake if you knew where the locations really were. If you were from Honolulu, you often saw silly editing of cars in places that were actually miles apart.
I'm particularly amused by Dano saying "We just passed Bishop Museum" as he's shown driving on Kapiolani Boulevard past the McKinley High School sports field.
i kinda like the editing..made it fun! we never missed an episode in my house back then! it was funny that everytime jack lord would pull up somewhere in his mercury, he would allways skid to a stop!..lol...
B52: I took the video clips and reversed them for several segments. I was trying to piece together many segments to make one long chase. Notice the many instances where reversed images. There are only @ 5 source episodes. I grew up with Five-O and still believe it to be one of the finest "cop dramas" ever. Cast, location, action, story line, you name it. "Five-O" is even modern day slang for the police. Jack Lord rules!
Thank you to everyone for your comments on my "work" over the years.
Actually, there was a third. He also had a 1967 Marquis two door, black with a red interior. It was in the pilot episode and in various "stock footage" scenes thereafter. In fact, it can be seen at 4:52 in this video.
I checked....the film (for some reason) is reversed. Look at the network ID (FOX4) on the bottom.....it is backwards as opposed to all the other network IDs which are readable.
A great job to accumulate so many scenes. Yet what is most interesting is how all of us is the way in which the power of Steve McGarrett was also reflected in his car, and its scenes of of strength and power. We get a glimpse of the moytor of the car in the last of the Vashion trilogy "Patriarch" when the bomb squad removes the bomb from underneath the hood. We get a very quick glace , on that i will look closer at when it comes to DVD, but you can see 390 on the air cleaner.
I love this! It's like they're running around like idiots and can't catch this guy. McGarrett keeps dropping his radio in the car and changes his suit when he goes inside his office, changing it back to go on the chase again. AWESOME! Liki Liki Highway!
McGarrett isn't changing his clothes, that's just CBS being cheap and using stock footage interspersed with new footage and no QC to check for continuity!
Hawaii Five_O one of the most classic police drama ever. It even reminds me of a combination of "Dirty Harry, and The Streets of San Francisco" with a touch of Steve McQueen essence in it.
Nothing like trying to get a two and a half ton LTD to do anything but go in a straight line. Steve's Mercury showed up in a studio warehouse a few years ago. A collector has it now.
Thank you Scott for the kind words. Yes, krappy editing. But, intentional (or with as much effort as I wanted to put in) effort to make it "good". Keep the faith, Bruddah.
Always cracks me up when you get a close up of the speedometer, showing 100mph, yet the car is clearly doing about 40mph! Mind you, in those lardy American cars, the handling is lethal at any speed above that...and you'd be out of fuel pretty quickly, too ;-))
Its obvious that someone spliced this clip together. The point is that if you're familiar with the show, you'll notice that they use clips from past car chase scenes. Watch for the same two Ford Patrol cars cresting over that hill through the four way, and the same Ford car peeling out just after one officer hops in. Various clips of two, then four door Mercs edited in from the first few seasons....
Just getting to know this series, but I allready think it is absolutely great. I enjoyed the first season on dvd anyway! The way McGarrett looks, moves and talks combined with the Hawaiian decor, car chases like this and gorgeous music make this unforgettable!!!!!
Kind of disappointed that you didn't have more shots of McGarrett locking up the brakes at the end of each chase scene. (ever wonder why the big McG had to lock 'em up to a murder/crime scene that had already gone down? What was the hurry?) I thought I was the only one who noticed how poorly edited the car scenes were done for this show, love the change of two to four door Merc shots and how they "recycled" scenes from previous shows and other TV and movies to suit their needs...
Yeah, you're right about the editing, but I liked it anyway. Some lady and her hubby own that black 4-door Mercury Monterey that McGarrett drove all those years. They nagged CBS until CBS sold it to them. It was wrecked and in BAD shape. It's like new now. 428 V8!
one of seveal, there were 3 cars Mc garret drove 1. late 67 monterey 2 door(pilot) 2. one black 4 door-destroyed in an episode in 77/78 season(disco episode) 3. Black 74 grand marquis 73/74 season til the end of 80. the one that got wrecked has been restored CBS keept it till worn down to sell... story from a ford hobbie mag about a year ago.

McGarrett is smooth. When you look up "COOL" in the dictionary , you see his picture.
Notice how he parks crossways in the street in front of his state office building! haha
Jack Lord loved Hawaii , if I remember right , he would work only in the islands. I wish our actors of today had the class of Jack Lord.
