It's more about how the motor is restricted due to the speed laws. If a bike can be powered to go faster than 16mph, it needs to be registered as a scooter.
Still, 200W giving more power than 250W says a lot about the product.
Good idea about the stacking batteries!but £250 gimme a break man, you can get a LIFEPO4 which is even better than lithium polymer for about £160 (10AH). As usual like everything in britain it's overpriced completely. 250watts is pretty much useless i think, even a 2 percent grade will make it bog down. the law needs to change on that to, why cant they just limit speed instead of wattage, if a 2kw motor is limited to 15mph it would be awesome, then you'd still have all the torque you need!
Electric bicycles are never going to take off unless the prices come WAAAAYYY down and they actually can go FASTER that a human powered bike..otherwise whats the point of the extra weight....250W will not climb a hill!!!! 24v will not go very fast at all
You need 1000W plus to manage all hills. and at least 48v for decent speed at a price of less than 1500USD to rival savings against other modes of transport without being disabled or old-aged.
They are 'electrical assist' vehicles, designed to make cycling easier, not replace pedalling altogether, ideal for lazy people like me, or the older generation.
The legal limit on the motor is 250 watts, and 15 mph top speed (in the UK), beyond that it can not be classed as a normal bike. 250 watts (1/3 hp) wont climb a steep hill on its own, but it'll help you do it a lot easier than by just pure pedalling :)
Yes..but I am talking about market penetration..you need something fast enough (and cheap enough) that you can also pedal and for the law to be watered down. Whats the point of restricting an electric vehicle to lower speeds than that of a bicycle!!(especially one that is designed to be a bicycle!) Britian wont get greener or cleaner until viable alternatives are available. I am a responsible cyclist with a 48v 1000W motor on a foldable MTB. I can get around london faster than anyone.
15mph??! I can cycle without a motor just as fast LOL!!! get yourself a real electric bike or make your own...much better and cheaper...2500USD?? hahaha WAAAAYYY TOOO EXPENSIVE for a 250W!!!
because its "RIP OFF BRITAIN" entrepenuers (theiving B@#tards) pay very little to chinese factories to produce this stuff and sell it at a really high price. I work in E-bike manufacture and production. I built my folding full frame electric bike for less than 900USD with full throttle control.
LOL. This bikes are RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE. Know any chinese? get them to phone an E-bike factory..some will make the parts 4 u even on one off. Thats why "I like chinese..always willing to please!"
its great fr all those healthy senior people id say...meanwhile young people cn live well with the normal pedal powered bikes...but this electric bike is relli a gr8 achievement...are there speed limits for normal bikes as well in britain?

Why are electric bikes so expensive ?
Kids can ride an electric car from Toys R Us for about £200. To upgrade it to PowerWheels spec is certainly not as expensive as this bike.
So you might as well use PowerWheels technology and put it on your standard bike, its cheaper!

and the LiPo batteries?

No problem, just use Milwaukee Power Tools V28 Li-Ion batteries.
