Hi everyone :) i am at university studying graphic design and i have chosen to do a brief on the wizard of oz. I am going to be producing typographical posters to bring back this classic film and give it life once again so that people want to watch the film. It would be a great help to get some feedback on what people remember about this classic film or any other thoughts would be much appreciated :) thanks Hayley. If you could PM me that would be even better.
@Vixehn there was no munchkin suisides, it was actually a emu that escaped from the zoo that day and then came on to the set of the wizard of oz and opend out its wings whitch gave the illusion of a man swinging on a rope
@Vixehn i watched a documentary on you tube and one of the men that played a munchkin said it was absaloute rubbish and it showed a bird flapping out its wings and turning around, do u suggest they made this up as a cover story, and why do u think he killed himself
Wow... did anyone else know this was a POLITICAL movie?
Just learned in my US History class. It's actually a "hidden" story about farmers/workers who protested against the industrialists/captains of industry in the late 1800's!! o.O
Thank you so very much for posting this. It is so nice to see all of these wonderful clips and learn new things about a film so dear to my heart :) -3
FOR EVERYONE WHO DISLIKED 4 PEOPLE LIKE IT ACTALLY CAUSE ITS SAD ALMOST EVERYONE IN THIS MOVIE DIED AND WERE AROUND 80 ISH SO CHANGE IT CAUSE I LOVE THIS MOVIE! SO PEOPLE STOP BEING STUPID i love judy
I remember watching this after the VHS finished! I watched it almost everytime I watched the movie. This movie is my life. I've watched it over a thousand times, no doubt. I do not exaggerate when I say I have it memorized completely- words, songs, dance, moves, score.. Everything. I love it so, so much. It will always have a special place in my heart.
I feel like this documentary is as familiar and dear to me as the movie itself. This was on the taped version of the movie I had as a kid and was just sort of part of the viewing ritual for me.
she wasnt pretty?! what the hell i would kill to look like Judy Garland she's one of my idols! i dyed my hair to look like hers but it kind of failed hahaha :)
Judy's physical appearance didn't mesh well with the time. She had these big doe eyes that were far apart and had a long german nose. She also had a round face. That's why she always looked better with long hair (The Wizard of Oz/Meet Me in St Louis/The Pirate) But the 30's style was short hair, so it just didn't compliment her well and made her look "plump" (which she was from 1936-1939), but she was just a teen going through the awkward phases of life. Watch Everybody Sing on youtube to see.
When she started at MGM they put Judy on speed-like diet pills. She wore a tight girdle-like garment to hide her curves during the making of the movie. If 20th Century Fox had lent MGM Shirley Temple, Judy wouldn't have been in the movie.
Of course we can't imagine anybody but Judy playing Dorothy.
By the way, the german version of the movie is not called "Der Hexer von Oz", it's called "Der Zauberer von Oz", also known as "Das zauberhafte Land".
i thikk leftyliz has a very valid point, she was an elegant and sophisticated woman, she was one of the most beautiful ladys ive ever seen EVER >>..<<
This proves my point. This is the greatest movie ever made. It has it all, love, hate, fear, longing, home, family, friendship and danger. In 1939 with little or no special effects, it was unreal how it was done. And the songs! Man, it gets NO better than the songs in a movie. Casting was perfect, too. Directing to perfecting. L. Frank Baum waa a genus. And MGM had the balls and the $2.6 million dollars to make it all happen.
Thanks for uploading this.Very interesting. Anyone else think the Tin Man, not the actor, but the movie character seems, in retrospect, um...a little on the...how should I say?...oh, nevermind. He's a lumberjack and all; I'm sure he's quite butch. (haha)
"Plump" is given a negative connotation, so when people hear that, they automatically assume that he's saying that Dorothy is "fat". I'm not sure if he actually meant THAT, but plump also means "favorable", which could be understandable given the context and the way that he said it. :)
4:03 I agree that Judy Garland wasn't pretty, but that she was beautiful. She wasn't pretty, like a movie star. But, she was beautiful as a person (physicality and personality wise). (Does that make any sense?)
i tried to see it time ago, i didn't feel amazed by it, actually i got bored, mostly because i just don't like musicals, but i'll see it again, maybe i like it this time...
in Fact: He originally wanted to make the The Wizard of Oz as an animated follow-up to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs but the film rights were lost out to Samuel Goldwyn, The Wizard of Oz was Disney's Loss,MGM's Gained.
THE DREAMS OF MR MULDOON is now out on AMAZON KINDLE @2.99.The publishers said this book would make a great film.If you like The Wizard of Oz you will love THE DREAMS OF MR MULDOON.Best wishes.
