  • lol i thougt it was made in the 1980's lol 1939 WAY OFF

  • in color!!!

  • Hi everyone :) i am at university studying graphic design and i have chosen to do a brief on the wizard of oz. I am going to be producing typographical posters to bring back this classic film and give it life once again so that people want to watch the film. It would be a great help to get some feedback on what people remember about this classic film or any other thoughts would be much appreciated :) thanks Hayley. If you could PM me that would be even better.

  • This film used to shit me up.

  • @bekir3234 i watch this when im younger it didnt scared me its a fantastic movie!

  • a wonderful piece of american culture....and nothing represents america more than angela lansbury?

  • After watching "Wicked" I will never look at this in the same light :L

  • this movie actually used to scare me when i was younger!

  • R.I.P. 'IZ' Somewhere Over the Rainbow <3

  • eso no es spanish version

  • pst, you forgot to speak of the suicidess.

  • @Vixehn there was no munchkin suisides, it was actually a emu that escaped from the zoo that day and then came on to the set of the wizard of oz and opend out its wings whitch gave the illusion of a man swinging on a rope

  • @MrArtist888 that was on the dvd, they edited it out. watch the vhs and look closely.

  • @Vixehn i watched a documentary on you tube and one of the men that played a munchkin said it was absaloute rubbish and it showed a bird flapping out its wings and turning around, do u suggest they made this up as a cover story, and why do u think he killed himself

  • Wow... did anyone else know this was a POLITICAL movie?

Just learned in my US History class. It's actually a "hidden" story about farmers/workers who protested against the industrialists/captains of industry in the late 1800's!! o.O

  • The documentary that introduced me to Judy and changed my life. I regret nothing :)

  • we will have a play this is the one that we picked we draw lots from other sections they will present litlle mermaid puss in boots alice in wonderland

but i like what we picked THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ

    :))))))))))))) :>>>>>>>>>>> :D

  • I wish Judy had been in this!

  • @saolili Of course it's annoying, is Latin American Spanish, Spanish-Spain is much better

  • I remember watching this after the VHS finished! I watched it almost everytime I watched the movie. This movie is my life. I've watched it over a thousand times, no doubt. I do not exaggerate when I say I have it memorized completely- words, songs, dance, moves, score.. Everything. I love it so, so much. It will always have a special place in my heart.

  • An empire of midget womwn.

  • I can't help but picture Mrs. Teapot lol....<3

  • i love angela this was nice.

  • 8:22 anybody else think he looks like Tobey Maguire?

  • I feel like this documentary is as familiar and dear to me as the movie itself. This was on the taped version of the movie I had as a kid and was just sort of part of the viewing ritual for me.

  • she wasnt pretty?! what the hell i would kill to look like Judy Garland she's one of my idols! i dyed my hair to look like hers but it kind of failed hahaha :)

  • OMGGGGGG JUDY GARLAND WILL U MARRY ME!!

  • Plump my arse! :L Dorothy is beautiful and this will always remain one of my favourite films... :) x

  • uh where is the movie???????????

  • 紀錄片

  • Judy's physical appearance didn't mesh well with the time. She had these big doe eyes that were far apart and had a long german nose. She also had a round face. That's why she always looked better with long hair (The Wizard of Oz/Meet Me in St Louis/The Pirate) But the 30's style was short hair, so it just didn't compliment her well and made her look "plump" (which she was from 1936-1939), but she was just a teen going through the awkward phases of life. Watch Everybody Sing on youtube to see.

  • the witch is even scarier in german.

  • Ray Bolger is the ultimate stuntman.

  • Its possible for this film to be related to the events and characters from the Gilded age in U.S history.

  • That reminds me so much beautiful things now... Omg just the music mades me cry. I wish I was a kid again...

  • You actually see a boy in a yellow jacket being scared in the parade.

  • The wicked witch in German really does sound wicked! I can't help but think of Hitler when she is speaking.

  • When she started at MGM they put Judy on speed-like diet pills. She wore a tight girdle-like garment to hide her curves during the making of the movie. If 20th Century Fox had lent MGM Shirley Temple, Judy wouldn't have been in the movie.

Of course we can't imagine anybody but Judy playing Dorothy.

  • The woman who gave up the witch part is an idiot! And she says she has no regrets? I find that hard to believe.

  • This movie represents the guilded age

  • @basketballguy1500 it really does don't it? I never thought about it in that light before..

  • By the way, the german version of the movie is not called "Der Hexer von Oz", it's called "Der Zauberer von Oz", also known as "Das zauberhafte Land".

  • i wonder what the movie would be like if they had gone with Leroy's first take on The Wicked Witch?

  • I am not american,I'm bulgarian but my eyes filled up with tears. How I wish I was a child

  • were is the movie ?

  • I love this film so much ....... It brings back memories

  • just luv it

  • the wizard oz is a nice story i think

  • everybody watched the movie except Ian

  • i have write about judy garland

so i pick her in class

    in history class

  • shes plump? 0.o

  • i thikk leftyliz has a very valid point, she was an elegant and sophisticated woman, she was one of the most beautiful ladys ive ever seen EVER >>..<<

  • "Judy must lose some weight..." that was the beginning of the end right there.

  • This proves my point. This is the greatest movie ever made. It has it all, love, hate, fear, longing, home, family, friendship and danger. In 1939 with little or no special effects, it was unreal how it was done. And the songs! Man, it gets NO better than the songs in a movie. Casting was perfect, too. Directing to perfecting. L. Frank Baum waa a genus. And MGM had the balls and the $2.6 million dollars to make it all happen.

  • @taypar11 This movie is used in MK-Ultra programs. I have not watched this.

  • Thanks for uploading this.Very interesting. Anyone else think the Tin Man, not the actor, but the movie character seems, in retrospect, um...a little on the...how should I say?...oh, nevermind. He's a lumberjack and all; I'm sure he's quite butch. (haha)

  • I think what he meant was she wasn't pretty (glamorous) like a movie star, but more of a character that a regular girl could relate to.

  • "Plump" is given a negative connotation, so when people hear that, they automatically assume that he's saying that Dorothy is "fat". I'm not sure if he actually meant THAT, but plump also means "favorable", which could be understandable given the context and the way that he said it. :)

  • @SweetestCollision shes adorable.

  • I loved the german dub... LOL

  • @kautokeino96 Cultured person that you are.

  • I didn't know that this was as old as 1990

  • Geez, everyone was so shallow back then!

    "She wasn't pretty, just plump"

"Judy must lose some weight, but the part of Dorothy was hers"

"In those days I was not about to make myself ugly"

  • 12:45 I've already found my next Halloween custome!

  • I love the way Ray Bolger says "Darathy," but I don't see where the plump comment comes from. Her waist is tiny.

  • I disagree with the one of the producers on this interview, Judy Garland was Beautiful absolutely

  • haha funny. east of nowhere lol

  • 6:47, "... at least every day"?!!! WTFuck little girl! everday? That's fucked up!

  • 4:03 I agree that Judy Garland wasn't pretty, but that she was beautiful. She wasn't pretty, like a movie star. But, she was beautiful as a person (physicality and personality wise). (Does that make any sense?)

  • Can you guys believe that Billie Burke was 54 when she played Glinda?!

Also, I agree. Judy Garland is one of the most beautiful and great women ever to grace this earth.

  • My absolute favorite move ever.

Thanks so much for the upload. <3

  • i tried to see it time ago, i didn't feel amazed by it, actually i got bored, mostly because i just don't like musicals, but i'll see it again, maybe i like it this time...

  • 7:38 Walt Disney,

in Fact: He originally wanted to make the The Wizard of Oz as an animated follow-up to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs but the film rights were lost out to Samuel Goldwyn, The Wizard of Oz was Disney's Loss,MGM's Gained.

  • where does the red brick road go =O?

  • there is ballet on 00:15 can some one help me find the hole bit of that?

  • didn't Aunt Em commit suicide?

  • Something I've always wondered...

where does the Red Brick road lead to?

YOU'RE REPLY JUST GAVE ME A TOPIC MAN!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

  • @JustinBlottin GOOD LUCK ! :)

  • It's hilarious that they thought of her as "plump" in a backhanded way, when most desirable stars at the time were quite curvy.

  • where was the whole beginning? you know, the tornado? im writing this @ the beginning.

  • somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue and the dreams that you dare to dream reallly do come true!

  • this video makes me want to watch The Wizard of Oz AGAIN

  • The old days huh? A bit weird but oh well...still good!!! ^_^

  • The movie is based solely on politics.

  • This movie is a stoner movie more than any 3d out there. Great film

  • I like it in German, French, and Spanish; however, Japanese might make it annoying to me.

  • Qwertyuiooooooppppp[]\dxfbhk;

  • Judy Garland was beautiful

  • haha i was eating corn and at 8:34 i was like omg hes hott and i was putting a new fork full of corn in my mouth and i looked back up at 8:40 and all the food dropped out of my mouth i was like "OMG hes OLD!"

  • LMFAO the little kid at 6:34 is like "WTF? this is stupid"

  • She sounds like a female Hitler @ 1:09

  • Why wasn't sex influenced that heavily back then? It seems like today's hollywood has more and more sex appeal

  • I love this movie alot! one of the best classics this world has to offer!

  • What's the difference between this and the 1939?

  • What a wonderful narrator Angela Lansbury is...and what a fantastic subject with which to shine as well...heartwarming stuff indeed!!

  • i wanted 2 watch more wat happened then???

  • The Wicked witch sounds like more of a bitch speaking in German...

  • I have this on dvd..I really love judys hair colour wish my hair was like that *_*

  • I'm with her, everytime i see this movie, i just need to know SO MUCH MORE about it! im watching it right now as a matter of fact!

  • NO residuals? o my

  • 4:03 JUDY GARLAND wasn't pretty?! Gosh, what was WRONG with everyone in the 1930's?

  • @leftyliz140 Neither plump, in the Wizard of Oz, I don't see her plump, I always saw her slim O.O

  • @Lealonna

Again, looks are subjective. Back in those days, the idea of beauty was very slim and seductive.

Judy appears to have a very good figure, especially for a teenager being compared to the "sexy women" of the time period. My guess is that the reason people thought she had some extra baggage was A) They were blinded by the "ideal beauty." B) That was puppy poundage they were staring at, and it was gonna come off soon enough when she was a little older.

In any case, I blame society.

  • @Lealonna

I guess people become fatter and hornier in the 21th century!

  • @leftyliz140 yes she was but in a different way

  • @leftyliz140 They thought Bette Davis was ugly too lol...when,if yoo view her early films, she was actually rather beautiful!!

  • @leftyliz140 they kinda contradicted themselves. they say, "she wasn't very pretty" but mean while they're showing a picture of the prettiest girl i've everseen and who is it? the girl they are saying, "wasn't very pretty." .....

  • @leftyliz140 directors told her that so that they could manipulate her and change her appearence for their films. She became very insecure, took a large combination of over the counter drugs, and eventually died from the accumulation of drugs in her blood.

The want for beauty klled a wonderful woman

  • @leftyliz140

Beauty, my friend, is in the eyes of the beholder. Unfortunately for Judy, the eyes that beheld her back in those days were the same ones that oggled the "classic beauties" like Gene Tierney, Ava Gardner, and Elizabeth Taylor.

I used to watch The Wizard of Oz on tape with my friends and family when I was little. All of us thought she looked very beautiful, like an angel....I'm talking about 3 generations of people watching the same person. And we still think that way of her.

  • @leftyliz140 but beautiful :D

  • @leftyliz140 She actually is pretty, unless you're looking at the dog.

  • @leftyliz140 he said she wasnt pretty but beautiful tho :)

  • @leftyliz140 Ikr! She was beautiful!!

  • @leftyliz140 He may have said that, but then he said that she was beautiful!!!

  • @leftyliz140 @Lealonna i know! and in any biography about her, it says she was 'the ugly duckling' at mgm because she was at classes with people like liz taylor etc.. if you ask me, she was just as pretty if not prettier.. people had some mixed up definitions of 'pretty' in the 30's

  • great thanks
