Thanks for your nice comments on the video of my Dad, but I think you have the wrong Ken Harris. Hopefully the Ken you knew is still alive and well. My Dad lived his life in Marin County, California, and he really only performed locally with his Barbershop quartet. As far as I know he didn't have the chance to perform when he visited England. I still agree though that his talent, quality and humor will certainly live on forever!
I had no idea that Ken had died, and I'm really sorry. To counter that, very few people had as much impact on the British country music scene, and although he's gone his talent, quality & humour will live on forever. I knew him right from Patsy Powell days at the Nags Head in Corby on a Thursday night, and gawped in awe at his talent. I'll miss you Ken.
I, too, heard this story on NPR and feel privileged to have seen this video. What a wonderful homage to life, really... An intimate moment for sharing and I thank you for doing just that.
This is how memorials should be. This is beautiful, sweet, genuine, and a little funny. I hope that I can give those who love me such a wonderful memory at my own funeral.
I heard this on NPR a few days ago...just listening to it made me think of my own dad (who passed away January 10, 2009). If there is an afterlife, our fathers are singing and hamming it up together. My dad liked to carry around a rubber chicken, listen to jazz, and generally tell - and tell again! - the same jokes to whoever would listen. Thanks so much for this very touching and personal peek into his life.
Was listening to NPR about a dear friend of mine, Chantay, when I heard this story as well. What a great way to end the year by remembering the wonderful people like Ken and the joy they brought to this world.
I also heard you on NPR this afternoon on my way home from work. Your dad still touches many, and makes you reflect on many things, not just because of the song he sings, but his smile -- thanks very much for sharing this with us.
also heard your tribute on NPR today...lots of thanks for sharing. my 86 year old grandfather just had a heart attack last week and this reminded me that i need to fully take advantage of the time he has left on this earth. thank you again.
Heard about this gentleman on NPR today. Thank you so very much for bringing this precious video and obviously very very special man to the attention of us all.
Ditto to the other comments. I'm glad I was listening to NPR. 1st thing I did when I got home was listen to this. I miss ole George Burns too! What a great tribute. I wanted to post a tribute to a friend, composer Ken Wilmot who passed 06/30/2001. "We're still singing your songs Ken!"
We also heard this on NPR and wanted to hear the song. What a sweet man and what a lovely memory to have of your Dad. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I also heard you on NPR. Thanks for sharing - makes me realize how precious little time we have here. Ken must have been lovely - this song is so simply sweet.
Wonderful wonderful wonderful! I also heard it on NPR and watched the video as soon as I came home. Loved it--glad you have this to add to your memories. I miss my old Dad, too. Thank you for the love.
Heard ya on NPR Mike. Thought I should at least pay some respects and give this a listen. Glad I did. Life is finite, love is eternal. He would be proud for your radio shout out. Happy New Year and many to come.
Thanks for telling us about this on NPR this afternoon. Now I feel like I'd better get busy and get some video of my dad playing his guitar. He plays in a "String Band" that is made up of folks who took lessons from the same teacher in the 1930s. They play with such joy, much like your dad sang here. I'm sorry for your loss.
That brought tears to eyes and made me giggle at the same time. One can tell he was quite the cat in his heyday. Love to you Lindalou and Melissa. I'm actually Carol, the goofy redhead from Camp Pigout.
Thanks for this sweet reply Carol, and to the rest of you folks who have replied. We're pretty overwhelmed by emails. Our Dad would have loved the response! Carol, I just wanted to say you mixed up my sister's name. As many of our fellow festivarians know, my sister is Michelle Konrad (not Melissa!) She and Tim introduced us to the Strawberry Music Fest and we're sure glad they did! We wish we could have brought our parents to Strawberry but they always went to the Sacto Jazz fest instead!
This is such a wonderful, uplifting video! I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. What a gift to leave you with this recorded memory -- and sung with a smile! What a great guy he must have been!
this made me cry. It touches a side of my heart.
