  • at 19:00 I see the Wing Chun resemblance

  • @FryanHere: come on.. you know that if you see it on television it must be true ... lol jk. I do love this specific fighting style though!

  • he only let him pass because he has manners in his head he was thinking "this guy is shit!"

  • haha personally i think the coconut oil is worse than the ring of fire.. x)

  • They look like angry chefs

  • They should have done Bartistu.

  • This is the martial art I defitanley wanna train in, 100x more effective than Muay Thai.

  • very cool. Really tries to convey the artistry and effectiveness of silat

  • come on, birth place of Silat is Sumatra which is in Indonesia.

  • the fight in the end is so shitty man..

  • The final challenge looked like a kata demonstration. There's nothing wrong with that. It's a perfectly viable training tool but why pretend it's a big sparring session?

  • Man Bill Duff sucks. How is he included in this documentary? Also, the fight seems so staged for this Silat that doesn't seem like they're fighting for even real!

  • I don't see how this is different then Kung Fu other than it's done wrong. The guy jumping on their backs is the classic Shao Lin conditioning of stances. The stance that they're doing is called the bow and arrow stance.

  • Then you got Silat where they incorporate Wing Chun or Choy Lay Fut's sticky hands fighting skills. What's the point of this? You mind as well just study Kung Fu. It's the same thing but only partial.

  • Karate, Taekwondo, Muay Thai and Silat that you see in Human Weapons never had breaking bricks, iron bending and so forth. This all came from Kung Fu Chi internal system. Now every type of fighting style is trying incorporate into their style.

  • They use this in the Jason Bourne movies

  • @rickyb007 actually they used arnis/escrima mixed with jeet kune do. don't believe me? check out the making of featurette in the special edition of the movie collection.

  • 15:35 - on one side of the park: people learning/practicing deadly martial arts, on the other? people playing soccer.... awesome

  • PENCAK SILAT IS FROM INDONESIA!!! INDONESIA. NOT MALAYSIA.

  • @ruiduarte73 it was used in southeastern asia to INCLUDE Malaysia aka in the MALAY archipelago lol

  • Baraka from Mortal Kombat (one of my fav. characters) uses the SIlat fighting style, thats why i'm watching :)

  • I like these techniques - as fighting techniques go - They've studied and polished street fighting moves into something more powerful and formal

  • Alot of people give Bill crap about being in a martial arts show but being a football player. We need him to counteract the actual MMA fighter on the show. Bill shows how a typical larger, yet less flexible and slower American would fare in trying to study a new martial art.

  • Silcardo Jinzad

  • @kaledov ikr lol

  • @CaptainChaser Hey cool you got the refrence. :D

  • Silat so far is best for me.

  • I dont like the hats.

  • @Xexetrex TKD fighters have to wear gear or they would never leave the mat in 1 piece

  • really good job bill you are improving quickly

  • Keris(Kris) not Kehrees.

  • man they really abused our poor human weapons in this one

  • Ed Hardy shirts suck.

  • i could beat them easily but i cant do the same style

  • yay colored flower taxi!!!! probably needed that for where they were going next...

  • it doesnt matter about ur style it matters how good of a fighter u are

  • bill duff is half retarded...

  • Gotta love the fuckin keyboard warriors out there who offer their "insight" to martial arts via YOUTUBE for fuck sakes...

  • @MrJDD1992 Finally, a voice of reason speaks.

  • @MrJDD1992 How about you respect their point of view ?

  • Want killer punches check out therodofironDOTcom

  • oh why, why, WHY doesn't anyone teach silat in the states?!?; on a side note, I like their hats

  • @2b2d1d32 Becuase the reasons most martial arts are practiced in the states are:

    1.) Sport

    or

    2.) Self defence

Now, arguably this would count as self defence, but this art is ment to kill. So, unless you want someone to change the style, it will not have a public dojo here.

  • @GolemBattler At first I was going to point out that karate was originally ment to kill, but like you said karate's been altered for sport. Thank you for your sensible, non-humiliating explination; You still hafe to admit, it does look like fun

  • @2b2d1d32 Indeed, it would be a great Martial Art to learn, especailly those who really want a strond Defence when dealing with an enemy. :)

  • @2b2d1d32

dude there are a bunch of silat schools in the US.......... except 75% is watered down systematic bullshit....... youre gunna have to try hard to find that 25% of schools that teach the real deal

  • is it just me, or does jason only appear in sandals? :P

  • lol i know my ribs

  • Which do you guys think is more effective in a fight, Silat or Sambo?

  • @Kimarey in a one on one situation, probobly sambo, but grappling is useless when there is more than one person attacking you. if you are fighting multiple people then silat is waaaaay more efective, i personally dont like ground fighting, i do muay thai, taekwondo, isshin-jutsu, and some wing chun, i prefeer to keep fights away from the ground. Grappling is good in the ring, but almost useless on the street.

  • @nicktoothpick Wait, but isn't slamming a person onto a hard pavement much more effective then the floor of the ring?

  • @gbatemper123 yes but you cant slam two people on the ground at once, on the street you will encounter multiple attacking. its best to end the fight as fast as possible without worrying about grappling, flat palm to the nose or front kicks to the shin, they are fast and very effective, front kick to the knee, therefore breaking the knee. end fights as fast as possible in a life or death situation.

  • @nicktoothpick I agree with you on the fact that you should always keep a fight standing if you are against multiple people, but I believe that grappling arts would help a lot if the fight was taken to the ground by some chance.

  • @Deflorate6 yes, which is why u should be well rounded in martial arts, but i prefeeeer to keep fights uprigt. i do a grappling style, isshin-jutsu, so i agree its good to know, i actually pla on dong judo in the next few years.

  • @nicktoothpick Not really. A lot of encounters in the street go to the ground. It's good to know how to survive and get back up, especially if you're surrounded. You don't want to be defenseless if someone takes you down. If you can't get back up they'll stomp you, their buddies will kick you, etc. You need to know it to survive, even if not to win.

  • @nicktoothpick Grappling could probably get you killed in the streets, if the guy you are grappling has buddies nearby. While in grapple you are 100% open to any outside interference. Tired of hearing guys say that grappling is more effective in real world than other martial arts, it really isn't. In sports martial arts, very effective. Real world, you would have to be retarded to try it unless you knew for sure there would be no outside interference.

  • @HumorousLOL exactly haha, thats what i was saying

  • @nicktoothpick So ignorance when it comes to ground fighting is the way to go? I just hope someone never takes you down. Then your techniques will be rendered useless. IMO a true martial artists always is open to new systems of fighting. To each his own though i suppose.

  • @nicktoothpick I totally agree!! I study Silat, Wing Chun, Kali, JKD. I specialize in Wing Chun, and Silat is so easy to apply the same principles. We study a mix of Madjapahit, Pentjact, and a mix of a few other systems of Silat. The system is extraoridnarily deadly, as well as very effective against many opponents. It is ground based, weapons based, as well as stand up. We have a perfect assortment of all three. I Would much rather fight on my feet, but this kicks ass on the ground.

  • @nicktoothpick Depends on the grappling style - A few rare ones - only rare because they're lethal and intended to kill and therefore illegal in most places- still exist that utilize the same principles of US Marine and Japanese Ninjutsu hand to hand - fight with any weapon, including your opponent against other opponents -. These are extremely punishing forms of grappling and as dangerous to the user as the adversary using techniques as the eye/chin-gouge skull grip to win.

  • @nicktoothpick Its interesting to me that you like to keep fights away from the ground. I mean, one way or the other someone is going there. So I guess its probably a good thing to know how to fight as long as your down there!

  • @nicktoothpick judo is good on the street

  • @JeffHL2005 mehhh in a one on one yes but not agianst multiple people.

  • @nicktoothpick Thats true in one on one ground game wins. But multiple fighters id say take downs and such work wonders. I used aikido with my karate training mixed. Easy peasy since one takes down the other destroys. Its why i always recommend getting a ground or take down then a standup martial art. Life is a mixed bag after all.

  • @brazilianman92 I beat grapplers all the time and I haven't trained in any grappling specific. Taekwondo, Capoeira, and Kung Fu mainly, people try to grapple me and they get met with a counter and end up either holding their black eye or on the ground themselves, and these guys are considered good fighters around here.

  • @TheReadySetShout Go to MMA then. Some people are natural at stopping TD's and stuff. Be rich and famous!

  • @carmodifire I fight because I like to fight, and I don't like the heavy restrictions. I for a fact know I couldn't hold myself from going for the neck, testicles, or joints, all illegal in the mma.

I love fighting for fighting, trust me, I'd rather live in Thailand training or in a temple in China somewhere, not having any extravagant meals and all that. I mean ideally I'd eat whatever. I'd rather go into the real world of martial arts, real fights, against masters.

  • @TheReadySetShout Yea i mean agaisnt trained fighter you gotta get creative. But im talking street fighters. But all in all it comes down to the fighter. If you have a hawk eye and are a mean sharp shooter. Thats just that. Im a bulky man myself so i use my tools to my advatange. I like takedowns and hard hitting counters. both which i get from aikido and karate. Im considering judo or hapkido or taek soon.

  • @nicktoothpick the last part of your statement was a tad bit ignorant. You had better use everything you can to survive a real fight, that especially includes grappeling. are you seriously telling me if someone grabs you in a fight, you're just not going to deal with it? train for every encounter, not just the ones you "want" to be in.

  • @Kimarey It depends on the person using it. also if you can take control of your enemy but it doesnt matter which style. I do all south Asian and middle eastern asian martial arts. its mostly based on weapons and stand up.

  • @BatmanbinSuperman12 you do all of them?lol yea right. -__-

  • @nicktoothpick all of what

  • @BatmanbinSuperman12 u said u did all south asian and middle eastern martial arts. do you even realize how many that is?

  • @BatmanbinSuperman12 Not to doubt you...but you said "all south asian and middle eastern asian martial arts"....

do you know how many that is?

  • Wow. There was alot useless crap in there. Give me Boxing, muay thai, Judo, wrestling, and Ju jitsu any day. Wing chun was the only thing in there I would and do use some of. I'm not trying to troll or nothing. I'm just speaking from 21 years in and out of martial arts.

  • @salotay

the malasians used this martial art to expel the british forces (along with other things of course). Even if you think its "useless" this is just a sampler shown in less than an hour. If you really are a martial artist then you should know that an hour doesn't mean shit compared to years of study.

  • @salotay Hmm...Boxing? Sport. Muay Thai? Sport. Judo? Sport. Wrestling? Sport. Jiu jitsu...Japanese or Brazilian? If Brazilian, it is most often taught as a sport for tournament competitions. It seems like after your "21 years in and out of martial arts," you've turned into a UFC fanboy.

I'm not saying those other arts aren't effective, but you do not want to dismiss the arts outside of the mma bubble. There are many others effective for self defense when there are no referees.

  • @salotay this isint useless you probaly dont even know how throw a correct punch lameass

  • bill always wears nike or ed hardy...

  • yea watch the fight quest episode... they actually go to INDONESIA and do mande muda with rita suwanda...

this video just bull_Sh, not telling the truth about silat where it actually born!

  • @toretto666ify I am pretty sure your right on the origins, I know its got history, In Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, etc. but I thought they called it wrong as well.

  • fight scene at the end seems pretty staged :/

  • As much as I enjoy watching human weapon, as a Malaysian, I can't help doubting their authenticity and truthfulness as they say 1 in 5 Malaysian practice Silat.
