Hate to be the fly in the ointment, but there was plenty of risky ventures that led to banks crashing long before the FDIC was instituted as part of the New Deal. Before the FDIC if you were a depositor and the bank closed, you were shit out of luck. The FDIC wasn't just a 'statist' idea that was thought of in a vacuum, it was a response to a problem in finance. CS is just showing his ignorance of history (again).

I don't know if CS is an anarchist or not, but i do know he is a fanatic and probably won't be anarchist for very long in terms of his life spam. He'll be onto the next thing soon enough and treating that like a 'cult of truth' and trying to desperately convert a hand full of people on youtube, or whatever, as if it matters. Yes, lobbyists and their government cronies are the problem. Would they go away if there was no government? No, they could simply go shopping for cheaper local cronies rather than expensive federal ones. Education has to be the long-term answer, then government will by default become an instrument of administration (which 6 billion human people make necessary) rather than one of control.

People love to talk about run-away large government, but the fact is that government has far less power today than at almost any point in history. What's more, government is giving away this power freely because it doesn't need to take responsibility for what the FREE MARKET does to people.

I don't discount what you say about govts not being spendthrift with monies they have guaranteed. But firetrucks are bigger in part I believe because the technologies have improved, as in many things. I had to be a little amused when you used the firetruck example because a company makes them in the little Midwestern city I live in, and it ain't a sophisticated operation. Its a small/mediumish sized place turning out small volumes (like maybe less than 100 a yr).
